    It wasn't our parents who decided to screw us. We went off of the gold standard during our parents' generation, but that wasn't their decision. Yeah, I’m a boomer and I was a bit put off by being painted with the broad brushstroke of blame and condemnation. But I still love what you do Cardon. Keep going.
    I moved from South Jordan, Utah to Texas because of the Californication of Utah. I hated to go, but I had to. Now, I have a small farm in rural Texas and live among many varied denominations of Christianity and few LDS (our branch covers 1,900 square miles). But we, as a community are of one heart and in our varied ways we love Jesus Christ and we serve one another with love and compassion. I’m 69 years old and went from being virtually debt free to having two mortgages and never ending bills (I bought the farm, so to speak), so I am not building bigger and better houses, I’m planting trees the shade of which I will never enjoy, but my family and future posterity will enjoy that shade and fruit and we will be prepared for the hardships sure to come upon us. So yeah, some of us boomers are still working to provide for our families and will likely, and gladly, do so until we die.

    • @markmorris3947
      @markmorris3947 Місяць тому

      @@mysterypro_music I’m in Whitney, Texas. If you move to rural Texas you need to be prepared to downgrade and down size. ie, smaller homes and lots of dirt, county roads, etc. I have always been a manager or director during the previous four decades of my career, but those jobs are very scarce in rural Texas unless you want to commute for 45 minutes to an hour each way. I am sick of commuting, so I work for a local propane delivery company. I love the job because I am out of the office, working in the elements doing physical work and working with everyday people. I have three neighbors and the closest is about 800 feet away. I love it. I could never move back to a neighborhood.
      In short, there is more open space, more dirt, bugs and animals and hotter and more humid summers than in Utah. Texas is not nearly as beautiful as Utah, but I can breathe here. The pollution in Salt Lake was really affecting my lungs.
      Sorry. I waxed lengthy on this response. I’m glad we moved. It has been a lot of work, but I feel safer here and we live among good people with good values. That’s worth any amount of extra work I have to do.

    When I lived in La'ie years ago, people were mad that the church had the audacity to raise the yearly land lease their house is on from a tiny amount to something like $100 per YEAR. Yah! (The numbers aren't exact, but the comparison is an example.) People were SO offended.
    Remember that the church isn't IN La'ie, it owns all the land, and made the whole town, the schools, the PCC and more, so people could do something besides farming for a living. The church maintains the town infrastructure and a whole lot more.
    The church bought the land of a VERY rural plantation more than 150 years ago, so church members could be together.
    Then the church members made the town on church land. Yet when the church wants to improve things they always get a lot of criticism.
    One story: One time when people were caught stealing water for their own farm, using the town's water and infrastructure, they were allowed to continue using the water. That is until the thieves took the church to court to try to legally claim the water. Well they lost cause, you know, property rights.
    I couldn't afford a home in Hawaii 35 years ago and had to move. Now my daughter lives in La'ie with her husband and 3 kids. They have a 1 bedroom apartment, with two incomes. Nothing has changed, and no, boomers aren't the cause. We have the same problem as everyone else. The human population has increased by billions and we all need housing.
    Cardon, you seem to have a huge case of envy and it looks really ugly. Spewing hatered for a whole generation, like you do, is pretty repulsive. Please do better.

And, then take the capital gains and contributed to inflating the price of real estate in another area of the country making home ownership out of reach for the natives in that area. Boomers are not to blame, it is the people for which money is no object when buying. Certainly their are a number of boomers in that category, But there are more boomers that are not.

All the houses and apartments are being bought by folks with money so they can rent it out. So the prices go up and up because rich folks are eager for "passive income." That's another way of saying that you don't have to work for the money. That makes me think of the Lord's commandment in D&C 42:42: "Thou shalt not be idle; for he that is idle shall not eat the bread nor wear the garments of the laborer." I wish I had the money to find a place that I could build some houses for my kids and friends.

This is what you think of the church you belong to? I get comic relief but it seems you honestly believe that we are being lead by incompetent, outdated and uninspired men. I completely disagree. You’re turning a positive story of our church trying to make good use of property into a rare example of doing good. I’m not a boomer and that joke is really tiresome.
