Costa Rica is not for everyone. If you want to be an employee forever and work for others than I would agree. I get what Camden is doing. Get an affiliate link from a company like ipalfish and bash other opportunities in the hope that they click on his link and he can earn some money off of you. It's marketing 101. Scare your audience. Have them go over to your corner and feel safer with the "better" life of teaching someone on a laptop and having no real human interaction. I am sad to hear of anyone missing out on the opportunity to experience a place like Costa Rica. Affiliate marketers like Camden are a dime a dozen. Anything for the buck. It's all about what makes you happy in life.

I have to agree with several other responders here. Your appearance is very WASPY. And your speech patterns and stated priorities validate that impression. That said you're in life's game and playing. I've visited CR many times over the past thirty years and have come away with very different opinions. Yep CR is expensive but expensive COMPARED to what? Compared to the beaches here in Delaware, compared to every coastal community from Nantucket to Key West costal Costa Rica is about average or a little cheaper. You resent two price points, one for non Ticos and one for native borns? That was true nearly forty years ago. And it's fair. The safety, security and carefully managed beauty cost money. The non-voteing, non-tax paying, non-members of communities, churches, school boards, local governments and the Caja, those consumer visitors should pay their share. Costa Rica is very much a socialist country. Why don't you try living on a fixed income in Canada or Sweden. There are lots of tall white people in both. And the taxes will make any red blooded American excepyionalist wish he was back in Utah or Texas or Wall Street. Why do you suppose Ticos on the Pacific side of the Nicoya peninsula are the third longest lived people in the world? Hmm...... maybe CR isn't so expensive. I for one like fresh fruit.

I taught there one year (Heredia, outside of San Jose), 2008-2009, it was rough living. I was always paid late and I didn't have a lot of money to do many things. However, because it is small, I went to the beach a lot; many day trips on single night trips. The cities are beyond hot/rough; the crime rate is high. Your video speaks truth.

You 're right living here is too expensive however I m not sure if that's the real salary of primary teacher. pretty much it is 800$ or 1200$ which is not too much because it is expensive sincerely. The problem is to be able to get hire on the public schools or primary because our government is really corrupt and most of this jobs are for people who otherwise have influences. Beside most of the teachers earn little because they pay their credit cards and mortgages. it is sad cause I am a tefl professor here in my country and I know all this things and to get a better job we most study work a lot but all our money goes away with taxes. Finally what you said about the way locals steel money that s truth I guess in all Latin America this stereotypes make ud look like thieves when you come over. thanks for your comments about how beautiful is my country though all the disadvantages

Great video. I have to know that ESL is a need in CR. With this in mind what solutions would you have to increase the retention of quality professionals such as yourself. I would guess the salaries stay low due to a large volume of teachers to draw from. The realities of life surely exceed $600 per month for a single person. Could you expand on what some solutions might be other than simply an overall increase in pay? Maybe there aren't available funds to pay more. Do you think that someone who has more expensive needs may find it more difficult versus someone whose needs are less expensive? Hope that doesn't seem like a DUHH! Question. I'm always interested in understanding challenges along with solutions. Knowing you have lived it you probably have ideas that might help.

ESL Teaching Jobs in CR are not well paid at all. At least for ticos, it is more difficult because they can barely make $10/hr. Many academies don't give them any other benefits. They actually treat the teachers like unimportant employees. The law in CR says you can't be paid by "servicios profesionales" if you're a teacher... That is to say if you need to respect a schedule, follow clear specific instructions, go to a place as a must, etc.. the academies know this, but they trick the law and the Ministry of Labour does nothing about it. So the teachers keep on being exploited... It's so sad. That's why the parents of the students do not look up at teachers... They disrespect them and yell at them and blame them on everything.
Life is expensive here. It's true and the salary of a teacher sucks...
Now it's getting worse... Taxes will be higher as of April 1st. If you were hired as a teacher and they said you won't be enrolled with La Caja (social medical security), then you'll have to register as an independent worker in Ministerio de Hacienda, follow the annoying steps to be able to declare your sales (which for teachers is not fair) and it's very time consuming and bad.

me mis of course there's a lot of people who would like to have access to getting an Apple computer or a go Pro camera. All I am doing is sharing my story and what I had to do in order to get to my next location. I have never thought that I have a privilege over anyone. However, now because of political talk and the oversensitive society that we live in, all these people are complaining about certain people who have a so called white privilege. I understand that some people are born in better situations and others and they are not always coming from white families. I'm a very diverse person, I love languages and I travel because I want to meet as many people around the world in order to learn. I'm so sick of all these people who are complaining about other people and in the world that we live in. Everyone has their advantages and disadvantages. The key is to except where you are in your life and be able to move on from there. There are countless stories of people who came from nothing including war-torn areas, violence and abuse but then went on to become very famous, successful, and inspire countless lives to go out and live their mission. Do I need to say anything else? Have a great day and thank you for this feeling.

Udit Vyas yes you do. If you scroll down on this comment thread, then you will find someone, who I think is from Germany, who teaches in Costa Rica. He is not a native English speaker but he has a good job. Thank you for watching and if you have anymore questions, please ask me. Also don't forget to subscribe please, thank you 😊 have a great 👍 day.

I finally see a video of someone speaking nothing but the truth, it annoys me sooo much to hear people say ohhh I would love to live in Costa Rica!
I get so upset because living here is SO difficult, sure we have beaches and rainforests and beautiful landscapes but guess what... you'll probably be stuck in an office the whole day and still barely be able to afford to go to the beach on the weekend.
I always tell them living in Costa Rica is not great, it's not a blessing and it's not something you would desire if you truly knew what type of lifestyle you have to live.
Costa Rica is great for vacationing and that's pretty much it.

Creky Panda Yes, Costa Rica is beautiful but unless you make a lot of money then you will not be able to enjoy it. Staying inside San Jose is not my idea of a great time. When did you go to Costa Rica?

Camden Long I live here, my parents moved to U.S when I was 3 and stayed illegally, we moved back when I was 12 and it's my biggest regret I want to move to U.S and be a teacher but I can't find anything that will allow me to move back :(

Camden Long I'm not giving up, one way or another I'll accomplish it but I understand why so many people go illegally, there just really aren't many opportunities!
