  • Fuel problems shut down my plans for the day and forced me to pull the gas tank and clean the fuel lines on our Ventrac 4500Z We need our tractor to handle all the spring growth on the mountain. So there really was no other option.

My dad always said, start with the cheap parts and work your way up. More times than not, the least expensive part is the problem. My dad could fix anything : ) Thanks!

My tractor did that only on uphills.
In my case, it was water accumulating in the bottom of the tank.
Drained the tank. Filtered the fuel. Put new inline filter in.
In turns out there can be a lot of water in fuel which is why I pour fuel thru a filter now.

Ethanol fuel will pull moisture from the air. Diesel gets condensation in the tank. I have never figured out how that can happen with a closed properly capped tank, but it does.

Harbor Freight sells a little kit with smaller version of your pick that has 4 or 5 different shaped picks. Buy 2 kits, one for the house & one for outdoor use. They're great for removing the screened gaskets on your washer.

I've been fortunate that the little yellow spout caps are still on my gas cans. I keep a cheap HF brush handy when opening the gas and bar oil covers on my chainsaws. There's always lots of stuff on those wanting to hop into the tank. Thanks for the video.

I fill my tank through a large fuel filter …. There is a fair amount of water in diesel which accumulates in the tank bottom. Eventually this stalls the tractor on uneven terrain.

It had to be restricted in the fuel line somehow or.. just by chance the fuel cap was not venting properly and causing a fuel lock because when you take something out then air has to get back in. At least its closer to our spring and near summer weather... I am over snow like no one can believe

Quick fix is a air hose with a blower, fuel cap off and blow back through the line between the tank and the filter. Works for whole summers on my riding mower.

I had problems with a petrol machine for ages , 45 years ago. I pulled the fuel lines and carby apart 20 times.
Then one day I got a sun glint on something .
I had a close look and found a strand of hair. got it out, went like a dream after that

I need to do this; mine has stalled out like that about three or four times over the past few years. My half arsed solution so far has been to blow the fuel and debris back into the tank by blowing through the fuel line where it attaches to the inlet of the filter. Ventrac manual says to clean the tank and replace the lines annually; REALLY! What a PIA. And they do ot show the procedure to remove the taink.

@@breakheartorchard4761 Well, it did help. After my above post I went out into the 90+F heat and removed my tank and flushed it. I found the culprit. What appeared to be a RTV wafer about nickle size in the tank. Otherwise the tank was clean and the lines were open. The silicone wafer seemed to have neutral bouyancy in the fuel and it probably was being sucked onto the inlet randomly on rare occasions. Took me 2 hours! To warn other tryo's, the eyelet connection to the fuel level sender needs a very thin open ended wrench to hold the nut below the eyelet. My set of old Sears ignition wrenches worked fine. Thanks for the inspiration.

Of course, machinery fails are common, usually (at my place) when I need a machine it's not working and first I have to fix it. May be a fluke of nature or just technological destiny.. The other eternal problem in machinery and tools is that when you need a thing, that specific thing is always missing and no one knows where it is. Although you say it's time to do something you wanted to do later, you did a nice job. The solution is usually hidden in details.. Sometimes they say "oh, that was just a little screw"... It' just that little screw or a particle too much somewhere that determines the faith of the entire wonderful machine, as great as it is. So, keep an eye on details like when fillig tanks.. take a couple of extra seconds to spare hours of problem solving.. At least it works for me. Anyway, you're doing good and every day there is something new, a new challenge to reach over. Keep on, stay calm and you'll be fine. =) Cheers.

Looks like the debris is coming in through the cap. Maybe a new cap or better sealing one will do. I'm pretty sure Tractor Supply has a fuel line filter for the pickup line as well. Great piece of equipment for the farm.

I really think it was from having an uncapped gas can in the back of the truck. All the mulch and such getting blown around and ending up in the spout of the can.

Being a used machine, I'd guess someone wrapped a plastic bag around the cap in an attempt to seal it up. The place you bought it from probably put on a new cap but didn't clean the tank out. Don't know about the other debris in the tank. You talked about driving home and having debris blowing around, was the cap off then?
Good to see someone taking the time to figure out a problem.

    • @breakheartorchard4761

Gas can spot was uncapped. I think mulch and trash in the truck swirled around and found a way into the gas can spout.
