We had a ventrac for about a year and a half from a sponsorship with ventrac, we absolutely loved it, great machine! Had a couple of attachments but the tuff cut was the best. Just a FYI when you go to sharpen the blades one of the motors has a reverse thread. I believe if you are sitting on the machine it was the far right. Have fun!

Matt, congrats on getting your Ventrac! I used to sell the younger brother to it when they did business under the Steiner name. Attachments to want... the bucket is sweet, they have a loader as well, but their finish mowers are incredible.... and they have a stump cutter as well. Now, you will ONLY want to use the hydraulic oil that Ventrac recommends. That system runs at pressures that would make you squirm.... Ventrac/Steiner used to void any warranties if any other type of hydraulic oil was used in their system. It all has to do with microscopic air bubbles... they will trash the pumps and motors.... huge money to fix. I hope you get many years of service out of it my friend... this video ought to be Ventrac's showcase promotion video! You killed it man!

I've used these for years. Very good piece of kit. Highly recommend keeping a set of belts in stock. There are grease nipples underneath on what's called the dog bone, pain in the ass to get to but vital they are well greased. You can also get a bank angle indicator that sits in the hole above the headlight switch. You don't need to take much notice of it but great fun seeing what stupid degrees you can get it to, trust me you chicken out before the machine gives out.

I too am very impressed, the ability to cut 2" young trees amazes me. The idea of keeping a spare set of belts is vital. You could hear what sounded like belts slipping occasionally. Prior to my retirement I ran a Kubota F3690 for a private business that mowed public reserves here in New Zealand. It was about 60". Great machines.

    • @johnphillips4342

It is a very impressive machine. I use a walk behind DR brush mower that will take down 2 to 3 inch saplings, but it is a beast to handle on slopes like he is using this machine. The riding all wheel drive of this machine makes it effortless, but after cutting 2 inch saplings and all the other brush, those blades won't be worth a darn for cutting a lawn.

This is not a complaint, but an answer to someone who complained about getting rid of trees and ground clutter. My dad was in forestry for 33 yrs. A good rule of thumb for managing any forested property is to stand between two trees and stretch out your arms. If you can touch both of the trees, they are too close to each other. That issue plus all of the ground clutter robs all of the nutrients to the mature trees. Then you end up with a mess when the tress die and begging to fall on their own.

I've owned a Ventrac for over a year now and have the Tough cut mower. Great "Little" Mower...After you did your first mow around your property you now know where there are little /medium trees that block you from mowing/moving forward. Take your chain saw and walk your mowing area and cut those blocking trees down so the next time you mow you will have a clearer shot to mow right through. A little effort now will definitely make your next mow much more comfortable. Also take your bucket/dozer and knock those small hills down to even out your next mowing.

Now that you mowed the steep hillside and can see them, take some time to throw the bigger pieces (4" and bigger diameter ) down the hill to the bottom. You will be surprised how much easier it will be to cut the next time , it won't crab like it did the first time. I saw that you had the weight transfer lever in the high position , but sometimes it helps to take the deck out of float and relieve the resistance of pushing the deck wheels through soft ground. After owning one for 6 years, I can say that Ventrac makes excellent mountain goats.

That Ventrac is one awesome machine and does an amazing job. This was by far your best buy to date, Matt and a true keeper for all that property you have, and keeping all that mowed during the spring and summer will be an added bonus! Loved the Video, and have missed ya..

Hey Matt, thats a nice toy you got there! Nice job on getting that tire back on. While you were doing that, it was quite obvious to see how waterlogged the ground is there now, some liquefaction going on when you were pushing down on that rim. Right, if you'll excuse me now, i have to go find me a Ventrac 😆

That was an impressively light touch with the skid steer! I also think you may want to add a bump rail to the front of the deck.

  • @dennishernden2264
    @dennishernden2264 2 роки тому

If I were you, I'd use that drone to find the largest trees on the property and then scout those area for game trails -- game animals use large trees as way points in their travels.
Then I'd use the Ventrac to clear new paths, you know, directly to your dinner table. Did this on our property and it resulted, over time, into a ten fold increase in game travel.
One time I was grilling some game birds on the side deck and stepped away for a moment and when I returned there was a six point buck with his nose in the air sniffing the smoke off the grill, yep you're definitely invited.

I bet the caster wheels are a disposable type so rims are spotwelded together on each side of the rubber. Best way to not risk damage of rims probably to drill the spotwelds and use nuts and screws. Love the dually wheels and Im impressed of the performance of that Ventrac.

That is what you get when you cross a zero turn mower and a mountain goat. it will go anywhere and eat everything! I can think of many times that would have made my job a whole lot easier. That is going to be a very good addition to your fleet and the only thing I can think of you might want to get for it would be a snow blower and cab. It would work better in tight spaces for snow removal than your other toys. Nice job, Matt.

I just realized that the ventrac reminds me of a blue crab with the eyes above and the claws out in front. It would be very cool if the ventrac could be painted with that in mind. I live in MD and it is an easy observation!

Ventracs and Steiners are built to withstand the abuse and workload that the children of a country farm family can throw their way. I have seen young boys work in places that were unbelievable. They build them strong and they last.

Steiners are still being made. Some family members wanted to go in a different direction with the design and started Ventrac. Both are being built today.

I’ve owned three Steiners over the last 20 years. I love mine. Our property (I’m about two hours from where they’re made in Ohio) is pretty hilly. You’ve already discovered how they tend to slide downhill when you’re mowing across a slope. Watch out for their tendency to lift a wheel if you try to make a sharp turn uphill. Maybe with your duals it’s not as bad. The snowblower attachment is a godsend for keeping our farm lane clear. Have fun with it. My latest one (Steiner 430 Max) is 20 years old and I imagine it will last me the rest of my life.

This is one HELLUVA very well engineered machine! Looks like a lot of fun to operate as well. It appears that the articulation feature is what saves it in the sketchy situations. Seems to deal with terrain that would normally require tracks. Like always, thanks for the awesome upload!

I’ve had my 2018 4500Y for over 1-1/2 years and use it to maintain a 20 acre farm in middle Tennessee, 1/2 wooded and 1/2 pasture, and several 20-30 degree slopes and embankments. As others have mentioned, setting that weight transfer lever to 5, on the lower left side (orientation is from the drivers seat), is important for maintaining traction on the steeper slopes. I’ve got the slope indicator on mine and have occasionally pushed the tractor past 30 degrees with confidence (no concern for rollover).
Avoid driving over low cut stumps on a rise/crest in the terrain. I’ve high centered my 4500 a couple times on the linkage that connects the two articulating halves. The first time I was able to wriggle the tractor off the stump under its own power, the second time I had to pull it off with another tractor.
My 3 most used attachments are the tough cut (mowing pastures and underbrush in the woods), the slip scoop with grapple (I don’t have another tractor/loader or heavy equipment at my disposal), and contour mower (mowing lawn around the house). The stump grinder and trailer mover are probably the next most used attachments. I also have the Harley rake and trencher, which have also been useful from time to time.
The 4500Y has been an indispensable, rugged, and reliable tool for my needs.

It occurred to me that the level woodland would make an ideal place to go camping, sort of semi 'out there' camping. I always thought that if I had some property with a large amount of woodland on it, I would build an off-road course for electric bikes and buggies. The Ven-Trac would be ideal for creating a track and those massive piles of wood you have could be used as markers or barriers for corners or even obstacles on the track. It would bring in some extra dollars into the kitty also.
There was something oddly satisfying seeing you level that vegetation. And that's coming from an eager gardener that encourages plants to grow, lol. Just a couple of ideas for you any ways......

Great Tractor. You need to get a boom mower. Also wouldn’t thinning out a lot of the small trees make it easier to mow. Looks like a leaf blower, and snow blower are option. And some chrome hub caps.
