Hey, Studio Knitters! Hope you enjoyed learning the basics today. Written version of this information is over on my website for you, too. www.studioknitsf.com/read-knitting-chart/
If I haven't said so before, THANK YOU for captioning your videos! Accessibility for folks with disabilities is so important, and I'm glad one of my favorite UA-camrs makes sure to caption videos, too. :)
I can't tell you how happy I am that I came across your tutorials! I am brand new at knitting and it can be intimidating for a beginner, however, you have made it clear and much easier than I could have imagined. Thank you so much and I am looking forward to knitting with you!
Omg thank you so much. I’ve been trying to figure out charts for a while and yours is the most comprehensive, quick and clear explanation. As you were speaking, it literally clicked into my head.
YES I've been waiting for this video for forever! ...I mean I guess I can look it up on my own, but your videos are way more comprehensive than most other guides I've read and watched
I have never been able to read a knitting chart this has been so so helpful thank you I have a new wee grandchild on the way and plan to knit a lot of wee suits ty❤
Good coverage and easy to understand. I just think it's stupid that they use the same symbol for knits and purls just cause it's on a different row. Why can't we simply have blank be knit and dot be purl regarless of what side it's on?
Ha, I know, the symbol switch on the wrong side seems unnecessarily complicated at first. But, doing so allows you to see the pattern design in the chart.
Hi I am actually knitting a sweater vest with that same design. My problem with doing the chart is doing the decrease rows and getting the pattern to come out right-where do I start the pattern after the decrease (wrong side isn't coming out right) It's a great video
How do know how many stitches to cast on for a charted pattern? If the row contains 4 yarn overs in a 20 square row do you cast on 20 stitches or do you subtract the number of yarnovers and cast on 16 stitches? Thank you.
Hello there. I really loved this basics today. I have a question: Does the Knitting Chart changes according the countries, or are them all the same? Does the Russian knitting Chart are the same as the american? Because I do love the Russian Knitting!
Thanks for the lovely explanation.i have a problem can you help me. I have a fair Isle pattern in the round what confuses me is the chart given. It has numbers starting from the top left to right .i.e 1234 etc. Then right side too to bottom 1234 etc. Similarly it has the same order beginning on the left hand side vertical then horizontal 1234 etc.i have not seen a chart numbered like this. Hope you can help me.
Hi my name is Gail I have a problem wth a chart for knitting on the yoke it is resemble a big X sl 1st on cn k2tog leaving both sts on needle knit first st sl both sts off needle k1 from cn I hope you can help me so I can finish my sweater thank you for any help you can give me
Hello,I found a great charted pattern at a Russian website ,I know all the symbols, except one, it's a circle with a diagonal line from bottom left to top right, can u please tell me what that symbol in my knitting chart means, thank you sooo much
Every even row that shows a purl dot is actually a knit. How so very confusing!! Every odd row shows the true stitch pattern one should do like a live map, but every even row does not. Why doesn't every even row visually show the true stitch pattern you should do? For instance the stockinette chart shows all knit stitches in the grid, but why would it not visually show a dot on the the even rows? Does this mean any symbol in even rows are also flipped to do the opposite? More confusion. I'm a novice.

Aha, thank you. I was wondering the same thing.
As a newbie to knitting and tackling my 1st chart project, I too wondered the same.
I know right? At first I was like...whaaaaat? why?!🤣😅😂
Can't decide which seems harder, reading knitting charts or sheet music. lol
Thanks for the awesome video!
So clear!!! Thank you :)
Glad it was helpful!
When reading a chart, I am left handed so does that make the chart opposite for me. I’m just learning and your videos are a great help.
Oooohhh I actually understood this.
Thanks for the video. If the pattern doesn't show a cast on instruction, how do we decipher how many to cast on from the chart?
Is there charts for Lacey patterns to purchase?
with this knitting chart, does this mean that i can lets say make my own pattern design?? JZ + HL. i can knit this?
Thank you for all you do, that's really helpful. And I have a question about one of my knitting charts, so could I ask that to you?
Hi I am actually knitting a sweater vest with that same design. My problem with doing the chart is doing the decrease rows and getting the pattern to come out right-where do I start the pattern after the decrease (wrong side isn't coming out right) It's a great video
Thank you, It is very useful !

Awesome!
Do you create knitting patterns for people? I have a pattern in mind but have no idea how to create it. Thank you 😊
Sorry, this is not a service I provide. Maybe check with your local yarn shop?

Is it included a subtitle? If subtitle included I will buy course
Thank you...
Charts are very scary. I am left handed but knit right handed my question is if you knit left handed do you still start from the right?
yes

What if i am a left handed knitter do I follow the chart or the written pattern ?
Thanks for this. Me and my dyspraxia will probably need to watch this a few times lol.
Glad to help.
Still confused on reading charts
