It great I use them all the time for house/park parties and although you wouldn’t use them from wedding receptions it’s a perfect complement for outdoor wireless battery powered wedding ceremony systems..and they work great as monitors when DJing a wedding reception with larger speakers

Great review, Phil! I've got a pair of these and I think they're absolutely brilliant for most of the reasons you mentioned (small, light, great sound, long battery life, etc.). Would they replace my main speakers array if I were doing an event in a big room?... No. But I'd use them in a heartbeat for an outdoor party, wedding ceremony, house party, beach party, DJ monitors, as satellite speakers in an extra room, etc. They're also fantastic for the purpose for which I picked them up. To DJ sets in out of the way locations where power outlets might be scarce. Pair these little beauties with a Denon Prime Go and you've got yourself the ultimate battery powered DJ setup. BTW, folks... Though they may be small in size, they do live up to their name and pack a surprising amount of thump.

    • @ScottGiorgini
      @ScottGiorgini 2 роки тому +1

@@NLralphjacobs There are a lot of options out there for your main speaker array for mobile events. Right now, I've got a pair of JBL EON ONE line arrays (with sub-woofers) and I love 'em. A line array like these (or Bose, for example) should do you fine, but you may want to get a more traditional setup (for instance, EV tops with subs) if you think you need more volume. My best advice is to go out and have a listen for yourself. There's no one better to determine what you need than you.

Great review! I bought 4 and use them 3-4 times a week , plenty loud indoor outdoor , the battery does last at least 6 hrs never had to use them longer, 50% volume battery is still on the green after 5 hrs! Bought 4 spare batteries and they rock, the bluetooth does work well, as far as using them for speech the mic channel is not hot on the output so I usually run a battery powered mixer, believe it or not they are hard to find but I use a Behringer Battery powered mixed if I need to go wireless

GREAT INFORMATION, thank you. I am in the middle of deciding whether I/we want to purchase a pair of these for our outdoor wedding ceremonies. I have been a DJ for 15 years. Yes, we have much larger powered speakers for everything else. We use a JBL EON ONE PRO for battery powered ceremonies, but looking to have a matching pair of two that can be pole mounted. Thanks again man.

I do low key sax with backing tracks gigs, and my 30lb QSC CP12's sound amazing, and can get real loud and stay clean, but they get heavier every year (I'm on the wrong side of 50). I'm thinking these Thump Gos could really be the ticket for house parties, wedding cocktail hours and nursing homes, so save my lower back when I can, even setting aside the battery flexibility. Thanks for this thoughtful video!

Great review and nice touch to have an app. As a dj in bars and clubs but also sometimes small events I have the JBL Eon One and love it. As a singer also it is great that it has "reverb" on it. Looking at this and the JBL Eon One they basically have the same thing just the Mackie does not have Reverb. The JBL also has control of Bass and Treble vs Modes on the Mackie. The JBL also does have two USB-A ports which I have never used but might be good for others. The JBL also has two 1/8" ports (one for AUX and one for headphones). I have used the Mackie Thumb before for bigger events (non wireless) and always loved the sound. All in all, it is nice to have options now, and yes they are great to also have at home for producing and feeling - hearing how the music will sound. I have had problems though when wanting to use the bluetooth on the JBL though I rarely use it when at home.

Any DSP option to adjust the bass? Mackie Thumps have a history of over-hyping the bass (compared to the competition) so I wonder if this can be adjusted beyond “voice” vs “music” mode. Oh, i see it on the phone connectivity section at the end. How is the bass? Over-hyped and muddy OR clear and punchy?

All about the baby HK systems (Nanos), despite the fragile stands. So good for sound, portability and low visual profile. Sure they don't have batteries, but a camp battery pack takes care of that, with more inherent flexibility.

Now I got an everse 8 to have at least 1 comparison to these kind of speakers... And... For electronic music the Mackie thump even beats that one in my opinion. It has an incredible punch that the everse just don't deliver. Maybe for other styles, like acoustics the everse maybe a pinch better as it has a very warm feeling, although the clearness of the Mackie highs is incredible, the bass gets down a pinch lower on the everse, but not that much. In both cases you would need a sub. Thought it would go way deeper in comparison but did not that much as I expected. Comes down to taste in my opinion. Will play around a little with the everse, but I think it will go back... The only point for the everse are the FX and the ability to pair them to play one source wireless to both speakers... Maybe Mackie can come up with a firmware update to fix this. As I play my FX from laptop, and mostly play edm the Mackie is a beast for the price and size... it is a little heavier and bigger than the everse, but that amount of difference in the price isn't worth it..if you don't need FX.... And maybe for that it lacks that funky punch.. .almost feels like one of those big club speakers... Amazing....and somehow it even looks better, great design as well :) a small one like everse with a subwoofer style pumping base with the punch, clearness and design of the Mackie would be the thing... . Thank you for your accurate reviews Phil !!!!!

Huge problem for me. The only out is a dry Thru. It is incorrect to say that “everything over here (channel 1,2,by) comes out the Thru”. Bluetooth music does NOT come out the Thru. Also bad is that when music is wired in the 1/8”, music and channel 1 mic goes to Thru - hood, but Ducking effect does NOT. Super bad design. You can’t use this for BT and Mic Ducking then add more speakers for more volume.

Here are more details about the Mackie Thump Go speaker between timestamp 7:00 and 12:49:
    - The speaker proved to be an excellent choice for DJ practice and small parties, with its impressive sound quality in indoor settings. It's not intended for professional music production but excels in its primary applications.
    - There is a desire for a slight improvement in terms of microphone inputs, as the speaker lacks a dedicated on/off button for microphones or the option to add a touch of reverb. This could enhance the microphone performance, particularly for performers.
    - The Mackie Thump Go comes with an app that allows some additional control over the speaker, including input muting and volume control. While the app offers extra customization options, it's not essential for basic operation, and some users might find it slightly distracting.
    - The speaker is built with feet all around it,making it easy to place in various positions. This design flexibility allows it to stand in different orientations, whether on the floor, as a bookshelf speaker, or even mounted on a tripod.
    - In summary, the Mackie Thump Go is a versatile and well-made speaker with good battery life. It offers an appealing combination of portability, sound quality, and tweakability, making it a recommendable choice for hobby DJs and those who perform at small parties or need a versatile speaker for various applications. One big downside not mentioned: Using Bluetooth you can not use the through out to a sub or Aux speaker, signal does not transfer.

My portable Dj speakers were a pair of JBL pro 2x15” and horn 150lb speakers max 135db 😂. Slid into the back of a suburban and a dolly on top. Super portably? No. Loud and awesome as fuck? Yes.

These are a good deal. The JBL Eon One Compact is very similar, except the JBL is almost 50% more expensive and the Mackie is louder.
