Interesting fact: the guy that inspired her to write the sentence “how can you see into my eyes like open doors” is currently her husband. That says a lot jaja
Well, i've heard about it only because as a teacher in a high school i asked kids to tell me what were their favorite songs. Some people just avoid certain genres.
Amy Lee is a vocal behemoth. Glad you heard them. The male vocalist is Colt McCoy from 12 Stones, so he is not on their other songs but this song blew Evanescence up into the stratosphere.
Range is not everything but she absolutely has it. Listen to the Anywhere but Home live version of Bring Me to Life. With just her voice and the piano, she has these incredible vocalizations that sound like a violin and later in the song (the line don’t let me die here) she does a full-on metal growl. The intro to Going Under showcases her beautiful lows and songs like Snow White Queen, Like You, Lithium, and Your Star also beautifully showcase her range.
Going under. Nice name drop seeing everyone talking about my immortal. Both great songs. And as someone said.. era defining. I’m almost 37 years old so I often forget how young knox is lol
@@robertmilligan3162 I'm 50 and i can't imagine someone don't know evanescence as it was on every radio all the day when these titles came out 😁😁Getting old sucks 😅

Fun fact: Evanescence was going to record this song with just them on the track, but the record label insisted they add a male vocal. For a very long time, when they perform it, they do it with just Amy on vocals, like they had originally intended. Evanescence is *amazing.* If you want to continue the beautiful rabbit hole, I'd recommend (in no particular order): My Last Breath, Going Under, Call Me When You're Sober, and My Immortal. Those are some of my favorites (and no one ever recommends My Last Breath for some reason!).
I know there's probably an unpopular opinion, but having listened to both versions of the song, I don't think it would have been the success it was without the male vocal

I definitely think he’d heard this one before, the way he was able to perfectly hear the lyrics every time is pretty unusual when listening to a rock song first time 😂 even the screamy bits he got
This song was an EXPERIENCE when it first came out. It was so raw and at the same time so ethereal, most people had never heard anything like it. Amy Lee, the main singer, has such a unique voice, both high and low at the same time.
I remember Amy Lee in an interview talking about how the original version of this song didnt include any male vocals, but when a certain studio approached bout buying song rights for a project they were developing they told her them that they wanted the song, but they wanted a male vocalist written in to meet their audience, and she originally walked out on that meeting. It wasnt unyil she was later convinced by other members to just write in the male vocals so they could take the deal because they knew it was that shot that would take them to the next level. So we got this version instead and evanescence became one of the greatest female lead bands of its time
Not only that, but even more ironic is that in a way she has come to embrace it over the years having all sorts of guests performing the male vocal portion on tours. Most recently was Jacoby from Papa Roach.
I just saw Evanescence with Muse a few months ago and she still sounds exactly like this. "Call me when you're sober" is my all time fav - highly recommend. But her voice ❤

Man, this takes me back. I was a teenager when this came out, but my favorite song was Hello; never did tend to find the most popular songs on albums to be my favorite. The thing that really surprised me about the album was the song Tourniquet because I knew it from its first iteration by the band Soul Embraced before Evanescence was even a thing.
“Bring Me To Life” is one of my favorite songs. It’s a different kind of love song. It was aggressive yet beautiful and quite poetic. This song literally wakes up the heart and soul in a personal way (to me at least).
The elegant monster that is the style of Evanescence. Quiet, calm, rough, dangerous, intelligent, raw. This is the best example of alternative music. Will always adore it and jeep it on my workout track.
I love Evanescence this song was inescapable back in the day, but still a great song. Others have said in comments already but I have to agree My Immortal is the best, I also love Lithium and Going Under for the more popular songs but I also think the song The End Of The Dream is underrated
Her 2022 Nova Rock performance of the End of the Dream is immaculate. I almost like it more than the original. She sounds absolutely incredible, on an outside stage mind you, with singing the opening the verse practically a cappella and then the band comes in HARD with the fantastic Will Hunt on drums. Incredibly emotional.
Thank you for doing this one, Knox. This song especially holds a special place in my heart, as it was *the* most favorite song of my late uncle. My uncle was 54 years old when he passed away 5 years ago due to heart problems, so this song has been really close to me ever since, at it was also played during his funeral, giving the song another meaning. It's a song that easily makes me cry these days.
Evanescence and Within Temptation are pretty much my absolute favs for this genre. They actually toured together recently, what a show that would’ve been.
lol there is absolutely no way to not have heard this song if you're over the age of about 25. This song was quite literally impossible to avoid hearing in the 2000s

@@rooscanbulat6107 That's the point, at the time this song was not some "edgy emo music" it was literally everywhere, clubs, bars, TV, radio. You must have lived under a rock to not have heard it. No offense.
6:05 she looks like a ghost passing the old man's window, that coupled with the ambulance sirens at the end makes me really wonder about that saying "If you hit the ground while falling, you die in real life" and I have always loved this song, it inspired quite a few poems.

Dude, you catch EVERYTHING. The guitar pan behind the first verse is really subtle. Welcome to Evanescence! This is such an amazing piece. Now that you've started, you should really check out My Immortal. More of Amy Lee's amazing vocals are always welcome. Have you considered (or are you already familiar with) Paramore? I really liked their early stuff.
I took my wife to see them and Korn in concert at the end of 2022. Amy Lee's voice was taxed from a full concert season and you could tell it. She was still a beast (so was Korn) and I highly recommend seeing either if you get the chance!
I've actually never seen the video for this song. It's really cool. I heard this on the radio and immediately looked up everything I could about her. Her voice is amazing. Can't go wrong with anything she's done.
I don't think any other artist has resonated to my core with their voice other then Amy Lee, her voice is very mesmerizing and unforgettable " My Immortal"" is another one worth the listen as well as "Lithium" is so haunting and "Everybodys fool'' that sends out a powerful message for that era lets say. Good reaction as always! Edit : Going under as welllll!!! Can't believe I forgot that one !!
Amy Lee has such a distinctive voice and lyrical talent. Most of her songs are so poetic and have beautiful yet sad/dark undertones. Just an amazing talented singer.
Amy said she wrote this about a time she was in an abusive relationship. A friend looked at her and could just see she was hurting and spoke to her. Amy said this was a conversation that woke her up and snapped her out of it so she left the relationship. That's what inspired her. She was brought back to life.
Honestly this whole album is a fantastic debut album. I used to play it on repeat. Others have said, but Hello from this album is one of the best tracks they've made.
So satisfying to be the first😂 Since this is evanescence, please react to my immortal, tourniquet, everybody’s fool, hello, going under or haunted. The classics xD any of the above will be great to see, love your reactions and all the content you make bro, big up and much love from the UK
Fun fact: Amy Lee and the rest of the band hates the fact that they were forced into shoehorning in the rap part of this song which very much dates it to the early 200's, late 90's. She released a rapless version of the song a few years ago.
Yeah Amy Lee has such a beautiful haunting voice if you want to hear more of her I would suggest Going Under, My Immortal, Everybody's Fool, Haunted, Imaginary, Call me When Your Sober and Lithium and Cloud 9 and Sweet Sacrifice just to name a few.
Probably one of my favorite groups of all time and her voice is epic. Now I know you have heard this before because when it came out it was one of the most played songs on the planet, so unless you live under a rock in the desert...I don't believe you haven't heard it. But you should definitely do more Evanescence.
OMG! One of my favorite! I hope you go through all their songs. - My Immortal - Going Under - Lithium - Sweet Sacrifice - Call Me When You're Sober - Good Enough These are a few of my favorites! I hope you get to them one by one. I assure you that you won't be disappointed with the vocals that Amy Lee possess.
This woman is amazing, and she's got some great music. I was never super impressed with her band though, I think she deserves a better supporting cast.
she said she was in a abusive relationship and a guy asked her if she was actually fine and it felt like he saw right into her soul. really makes it more serious and impressive.
OH MY GOD! I have been waiting on you to react to them. THANK YOU! 🙏 She is an angel. And she writes and sings about real subjects like mental health, social injustice and other things. My Immortal, Call Me When You're Sober, Going Under, Lithium, Everybody"s Fool, and Use My Voice are some of her best. She also collabed with Seether on a song called Broken.
Absolutely loved this song when it came out and was a casual fan of the band since. But I got to see Evanescene open up for Muse a few months back and I'm glad I did. Amy Lee was incredible to hear perform live.
This song in the Daredevil movie soundtrack was huge. Like U2s Joshua Tree, everyone one of my friends had this album whatever genre they listened to: country, rap, alt rock, metal, gospel. It was weird.
The contrast between the pure soprano vocals of Amy Lee and the lower, raw rick singing of the guy is what I have always loved about this song. It just works
Amy Lee is a rock Goddess. There is no better. So much emotion. If you want to try more. One of my favourite 's is "My heart is Broken" her voice on that song is beyond amazing.
lzzy hale from halestorm has amazing vocals and the halestorm song break in ft amy lee was an awesome display of vocal prowess and harmonies from them both ❤
@@Nightwolves1981 I'm more a fan of her growls and screams, honestly Lzzy sounds wicked in I Miss the Misery just sayin'. But yes the harmonies are fantastic in Break in... Also The Raconteurs have amazing harmonies too come to think of it... Consolers of the Lonely, or even Level... their songs are timeless masterpieces too.
I was an utter pop girl in the early 2000s but loved Evanescence, Amy’s voice is just hauntingly beautiful and this her delivery is perfection, there’s hurt, anger , despair and pain in the lyrics and it’s demonstrated so brilliantly in this song. Give Hello a listen at sone point obviously My Immortal is the other song Evanescence are very well known for but Hello was always one of my faves.
I worked with a Afghani refugee who fled his country after seeing his wife killed, he was a trained doctor back home, but here in the UK he had to do warehouse work until he got additional training to practice here, this song was all over the radio at the time and one day he asked me to write down the name of the artist and song, her voice reminded him of his wife who loved to sing, I went out and bought the album for him that lunchtime.
Amy Lee is one of the only vocalists that I know of that can whisper a scream. Amy fought the music label about having the male vocalist in this song but she finally gave in reluctantly. The song ended up to be the band’s biggest hit. If you really want to hear a great show of her voice check out Wasted On You (String Sessions 2020)
They wanted even more male vocals in it more in style to nu-metal but she fought it and this was the compromise, I think, she talks about it in a Wikipedia fact or fiction video
both songs from Evanescence "Bring Me To Life, and My Immortal" were used in sound track for the Daredevil movie, which is where a lot of people first heard these songs
Evanescence is a really cool band to dive into if you like the female fronted symphonic rock/metal style. Another interesting one to view and/or react to might be Floor Jansen & Henk Poort - Phantom of the Opera (if you like Amy Lee's voice for Evanescence, Floor will blow you clean out of the water!)
Got to see them during their prime back in the early/mid 00’s and they were excellent live. That was the first festival style concert I ever went to and it had some the biggest rock/alternative bands of the early 00’s like Seether, Godsmack, Powerman5000, and probably a dozen others. I had stayed over at a friends house the night before and then my dad showed up early that morning saying I couldn’t stay anymore and he needed help doing some work. I was bummed about leaving my friends house but then I asked if my friend could come too and we could both help with the work and then he could be there to stay over at our house, but my dad flatly refused and was getting very irritated about it all. So, defeated and out of options, I got in the truck and we drove off. We drove for about 30 minutes with me stewing like a toddler before my dad broke the news that we weren’t going to the junkyard or going to do any work, and that we were actually going to the festival. Obviously that reveal totally changed my mood and I felt bad as I realized that the reason my dad wouldn’t let my friend come and was getting irritated was because he only had 2 tickets and because I had whined so much about it all thinking he was just ruining my saturday by not letting my friend come over. We had a great time though and it was an awesome day. I also ended up getting a contact high at the concert which was a first for me as well lol.
This is gold. Thank you so much for what you do. At some point I remember Eminem dissed the Grammys because they gave the "best new artist" award to Evanescence instead of 50 cent in 2004. I love 50 but Evanescence is magic.
Since you’ve been reacting to both Bring Me The Horizon and Amy Lee lately, maybe you should consider the song they did together. It has pretty interesting lyrics for you to dissect. It’s called: ”One Day The Only Butterflies Left Will Be In Your Chest As You March Towards Your Death” (:
I've seen her twice this year and her voice, even live and this many years after this was released, is still phenomenal and powerful and oh so pure. My Immortal, Going Under, Call Me When you're Sober, Everybody's Fool, and more are great ones worth a listen for sure!
Amy said she wrote this song after her first date with her husband. He asked her “ are you happy” and she said no one had asked her that before. It was as if he saw inside of her. It’s beautiful.
You want cold chills? Listen to the band version of My Immortal by Evanescence.

Yeah I mean he's had 20 years to prepare 🤣
He does catch everything. Really good insights into symbolism, metaphor, and intent. I've thoroughly enjoyed watching his reactions.
I took my wife to see them and Korn in concert at the end of 2022. Amy Lee's voice was taxed from a full concert season and you could tell it. She was still a beast (so was Korn) and I highly recommend seeing either if you get the chance!
Same!!
Going under was my 12 year old anthem and it’s so beautiful! I cry every time I hear it.
Going Under, Everybody’s Fool…so many epic tracks from them. ❤
Cannot believe you are hearing her for the first time. Such a lovely voice
Amy Lee has such a distinctive voice and lyrical talent. Most of her songs are so poetic and have beautiful yet sad/dark undertones. Just an amazing talented singer.
My Immortal, Lithium, Call Me When You're Sober. So many great ones from them to chose from
This is amazing flashback! I had this album on repeat about 20 years ago!🤟
My Immortal and Imaginary are beautiful. What I love about Imaginary are the lyrics, they are so good and creative!
Amy said she wrote this about a time she was in an abusive relationship. A friend looked at her and could just see she was hurting and spoke to her. Amy said this was a conversation that woke her up and snapped her out of it so she left the relationship. That's what inspired her. She was brought back to life.
She sounds the same if not better live. Her voice is absolutely incredible
I've been to her concert when she came to Australia and it was phenomenal
@@VergilTheLegendaryDarkSlayer I was only able to go once with my brother but I’ll never forget it. She absolutely was phenomenal
You should see her live performances, playing the piano while headbanging and STILL the voice is this good.
Amy Lee has such a magical voice. Classically trained female rock vocal? My gosh its so good
Honestly this whole album is a fantastic debut album. I used to play it on repeat. Others have said, but Hello from this album is one of the best tracks they've made.
So satisfying to be the first😂
Since this is evanescence, please react to my immortal, tourniquet, everybody’s fool, hello, going under or haunted. The classics xD any of the above will be great to see, love your reactions and all the content you make bro, big up and much love from the UK
you were second tho
@@felixbeaulieu852yeah.. I know.. 😢
Amy lee's voice is one of my favorites out of any artist and any genre. I've always thought her voice was so beautiful
OMG! One of my favorite! I hope you go through all their songs.
- My Immortal
- Going Under
- Lithium
- Sweet Sacrifice
- Call Me When You're Sober
- Good Enough
These are a few of my favorites!
Finally saw Evanescence live on tour with Muse this year. My daughter and I loved seeing both bands for the first time.
12 Stones was a criminally underrated band in the early-mid 2000s. World so cold is such a powerful message.
love it when a song surprises you! it will always amaze me how quickly your mind works out where a song is going!
all the best to you & yours!
♥️🎶🙏🎶♥️
Flyleaf " I'm so sick," this little chick can belt.... first time I heard them live I was blown away..
YES!!
Absolutely loved this song when it came out and was a casual fan of the band since. But I got to see Evanescene open up for Muse a few months back and I'm glad I did. Amy Lee was incredible to hear perform live.
Another in the rock genre is Believe by Disturbed. David Draiman is one of the greatest lyricists alive!
Can't go wrong with almost any disturbed song
Their version of The Sound of Silence 😳
I'm not sure he'd know what to make of Down With The Sickness 😂
you take it apart without breaking it.
Thank you so much!
20 years and still gets my blood pumping... love Amy Lee!! You were spot on as always!!
Any Lee did a beautiful duet with Lzzy Halestorm called Break in... dude, the fking harmonies.
lzzy hale from halestorm has amazing vocals and the halestorm song break in ft amy lee was an awesome display of vocal prowess and harmonies from them both ❤
@@Nightwolves1981 I'm more a fan of her growls and screams, honestly Lzzy sounds wicked in I Miss the Misery just sayin'. But yes the harmonies are fantastic in Break in... Also The Raconteurs have amazing harmonies too come to think of it... Consolers of the Lonely, or even Level... their songs are timeless masterpieces too.
You are so good at this! I thoroughly enjoy your perceptions! Thank you for sharing you!
Im68 years old, this is one of the greatest song I've ever heard!!!!!!!!!!!!So powerful, and at the same time so deep and smooth 👌!!!!!!
both songs from Evanescence "Bring Me To Life, and My Immortal" were used in sound track for the Daredevil movie, which is where a lot of people first heard these songs
I am dumbfounded that someone hasn’t listened to evanescence in this day & age. Disbelief aside I’m glad another person loves Amy Lee’s voice.
Definitely keep up with the Evanescence reactions, you will NOT be dissapointed! Good reactionT
Damn just noticed you hit 1 Million subs! Congrats! Love this womans voice!
I love your commentary! Can't wait to hear your reaction to more Evanescence!!
There’s no way you haven’t heard this before 😮
This is gold.
She has a great voice.
She did an acoustic live performance with Korn singing Freak On A Leash for MTV. Also worth a reaction
You gotta check out her cover of Legends Never Die, it's so damn good. Amy is the QUEEN of alt-rock/grunge, voice of an angel man
love this band and this song so much, both helped me get through some rough times.
