It has been one-hundred and seventy-five years since the birth of the first truly sentient AI. It has been just two short years since Lyssa's birth...
Captain Andy Sykes just wants to keep his family in one piece.
Once a combat pilot for the TSF, he gave it all up for love and a family. But two years ago, his wife disappeared, leaving him with two mouths to feed: eight year-old Tim, ten year-old Cara.
Since then, he's managed to scrape a living hauling cargo between the Jovian Combine and InnerSol. It's not glamorous, his ship's falling apart, and it's boring as hell, but it keeps them in fuel and calories.
When a cargo run to Cruithne Station meets with more than one catastrophe, Andy finds himself accepting an offer a less desperate man would refuse: delivering an illegal AI named Lyssa.
The AI is the property of Heartbridge, a powerful, interplanetary corporation, and they want their latest weapon back. With a private army, gangs, and pirates all vying for the precious cargo Andy carries, it's going to take everything Andy has to keep his ship flying, his kids safe, and get Lyssa to her destination.
Even if he succeeds, Lyssa's very existence may spark a war like no other humanity has ever seen.

Hey everyone, co-author James here. Thanks for reading! And thank you to @Aeon 14 (Malorie Cooper) for making the series available. It's really exciting to see the comments. I hope you enjoy the adventure with Lyssa and the Sykes family.
Thank you.
Thank you. I'll start collecting the series as soon as I get paid.
It's a pleasure. Thank 😊 you.
A real gem, thank you
Very enjoyable. Who’s narrating? She has a wonderful voice
Great story! I listen to over a dozen books a month. I'm disabled and don't do very much. These stories are my escape! Thanks so much! 👍
9h in and I think this is one of the best 1 reader performance ever. I love how her voice cracks, how she reads ahead, her emotions...if you ever read this...I thank you🙏🙏🙏❤️
Who's the performer?
Nice observation!
I would be thrilled to hear the rest of the series. Because of some physical issues I have trouble reading. So listening is my preferred way to experience good novels. Thank you for helping people like me out!
The second book just went up! :)
Thank-you!
I feel that Dan... My eyes are getting worse.. i was an avid reader , but now it's audiobooks..
Yes please I would love to hear the rest of the series
Yeah, real sci-fi, no magic! Good reading by the way.
I'm the same way.
One of the best sci-fis out here. A setting I can imagine easily in the future. Only two hours in and I find myslef caring for the characters, something that is rare in stories these days. Reading is excellent as well. Thank you!
Love this. Takes me back to my Jr High School days of reading, Bradbury, Niven, Asimov, Heinlein and more!
with this much praise I gotta listen to this
@Tim Lane I went through the same authors while in Jr High. In grade school I was immersed in the whole Tom Swift series. Talk about “dating” myself 😂
Loved the IFF reference. I have worked on The Air Force Radome before as I am a aircraft mechanic. For the confused, it’s Identify Friend or Foe.
Thank you for posting. Looking forward to the other books in the series.
This story and narrator are pure gems! Thanks
Yes, thank you. I can listen to books as I work. I don't have a lot of time to sit and read. While I prefer having a hard copy of a book, audiobooks have been my best friend these last few years. I can be productive and entertained. Thank you so much for sharing your work.
Sweet! Thank you! Of course we want more!
Thanks for a well written story, to get away from our mess of a world. A great escape for now.
thank you for making this. Your voice is wonderful.
Bloody good! Thank you so much!
Thank you authors and Narrator. It's the best way to clean my house or drive many km to my different places of work here in South Africa
I LOVE this book! Thank you so much to the authors and narrator for reading it. There is a real good story here, and elements of love, family, and the things that are really the most important. Recently lost my job, hopefully will get another, but the emotional story here is just so enthralling. Thank you Authors, narrator, and anyone else involved in making this available to us!🙏💫💙
Really excellent story and character development :-) Wonderful ideas and brilliantly read too!
I just wanted to thank you for allowing me to read this amazing book. Instead of the simple “shoot them up” stories it drew me down a path I never expected. I look forward to continuing the series with book 2 with great anticipation.
Thank you for this! It's been awhile for me missing the universe.
Yeah I really enjoyed this I just picked up books 1 through 3... Thanks for putting this on UA-cam to try app this awesome
I loved the Rika series. I hope this series is just as awesome
Got the first three on audible, excellent series as usual
I started with your raika series and have been hooked on your channel so I must say thank you very much for keeping me company during my overnight shifts keep up the amazing work 👍
I'm all caught up with anticipation. REALLY REALLY LOVED the Rika novels n MANY THANKS for ur narrating of them🤩 This new read will be just as good r better NO DOUBTS. #3 Fan Thanks Thanks
I’m truly enjoying this. I’ve heard some sci-fi that was not realistic so it ruined the story. I love this. Great job!
Science fiction.... Realistic.... Hmmmm... "fiction"
@@snakeinthegrak8969Fiction can be realistic...
Thank you for sharing! I enjoyed this very much! Wow! What a great day I had listen to a great story!
Love a good SiFy that keeps going and remains entertaining without leaning on repetitive erotica to fill the pages.
I would love to hear the rest of this serie!
Hi James, your writing is some of the best Space Opera out there. I have read 90 percent of Aeon 14 and loved it but your stories stick with me still. My heart aches for the crushing loneliness of Crash the Parrot, Tim's nightmares and when that asshole killed Andy!.. You tell a good story. low spin.
Yes 🥺 please 💗. I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't get to hear or read the rest of this series. I love ❤ the family dynamic & the hard sci-fi mix. Each part makes the other more compelling.
I want to thank you for sharing this book and a great thanks to the narrator.i hope to find more books like this.
About halfway through with this first one and just wanted to say its been excellent so far.
This is going to be a good one for sure!😁🙂
Omgosh this series is sooooo good. I've listened to every one you have on here. I wish they were more recordings. I'm a truck driver and have listened to 1 a day. Awesome storyline. I can't wait to see if the daughter goes out on her ship or buys another one. Lyssa is awesome. Omgosh the whole story is good. Thank you for sharing.
Just finished. Great book! Starting the next one asap!
I just found and started this book/ series! I look forward to it and hope it's good because there's lots of books! I'm excited!
Pretty epic start to a series.
Less than two hours in and I love it. After the expanse series it's been hard to find anything that scratched that particular hard scifi space itch. The emotional drama is also very compelling. I cant wait to see where this all goes.
Awesome listen probably my third time. Helps me, through the day.
I just started, I am really enjoying the narration, great job! So easy to listen to!!!
Awesome, love your writing style
Thank you so much for this, great work!
Excellent book and well narrated.
Thank you so much for posting it, I’m very much looking forward to losing myself for a while in the next volume.
😎👍✨
Great story, listened to the whole book in one sitting, looking forward to what follows.
I just finished Rika that was just awesome 👌😎👏 outstanding story
Yes, I would. You did a Fine Job on this one.

Good story ... ready for more.

@@wolf222555 You too...I hope 2022 brings health, happiness and prosperity to you and your pack Wolfie xx
I love this book a little slow ever now and then, but so is life. I could not put it down.
The only thing better than i good Sci-fi movie, is a great Sci-fi novel and this is definitely on of the greats. Ty for posting it. You do all of us "readers" a great boon.
Outstanding book thank you !
Outstanding book very compelling
❤️ was wishing for more rika.... but this will do just fine. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Good stuff, kids are a weird touch because of the cost of Delta V.
They're expensive as hell, more and more, as technology evolves. Moore's law of progeny cost and tech? LoL 🤔
it would be great if you added chapters to these. that being said: you are doing great work. thanks!
Great narration. It's much appreciated.
Very different to the Rika Mechanized series, but in the same universe right at the beginning of the story. I am very much looking forward to seeing how this develops.
I'm 4:15 into this audiobook and just now able to stop and say 😱 OMG this is amazing entertainment, I'm over the moon at how really well written this story is, there's no let up on...I can't really say action, there's fighting for sure lol but I have empathy for his children and his worry for them you describe things in detail and it moves so fast you don't get bored and I'm just thrilled with this book it's almost midnight here and I need to go to sleep so I'm going to go ahead and let it run and pick back up at 4:15 because I don't miss anything I seriously doubt that I'm actually going to sleep but I'm going to try thank you for posting this I'm just so happy with this book thank you both again. Good Night
I'm glad you're loving it so much! :)
Oh my, parent who lies, children who don't obey. Sounds like life.
I usually put books like this in the background while i work.... usually they are unremarkable, this is some good writing tho.
Her voice is driving me freaking crazy lisp at the end of it even
I am enjoying the character development
I love a sentient AI tale.
Lovin This
Just finished the book and I have to congratulate Laura Jennings; it was her reading that made me keep on listening a couple of times. Otherwise I'd have missed out on quite a good story.
Outstanding..
Short lived heavy impact character! Seems weak but allows you to see how strong his virtues were. Well done!
i very much like to hear the rest of this novel. it's good🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹❤️💜💙
Her voice has the most wonderful lilt.
I love the series. Thank you for sharing.
Holy smokes that epilogue... I enjoyed the Rika series but this is way better!
I'm still on Rika but this is definitely next!
1 hour in. Solid writing and narration. Recommendations from family and friends or trickle down to free audio books is how I find new authors. Edit: end of book one. Still solid narration, solid writing though the world this is built in tends to expance'esk. Spinney sections instead of constant acceleration drives with flip and burn is the only big difference.
Het James, are you one of the authors from expanse? This reads familiar. Love this story, the expanse also. Thanks
I believe you have an error at roughly 2:54:58 - Andy asks his kids to hug him, but the narrator says "he pulled her in for a hug, then called for ANDY who came running..." I believe you meant for TIM who came running to Andy (,the dad who calls them over). Either the narrator read it wrong or you made a rare mistake I've only caught maybe twice in my dozen or so audiobook binging. 😄
2:42 The lack of discipline in those kids is going to get them all killed.
Space has less mercy than the sea.
Sorry if I'm naive, what's the next book called?
I really enjoyed this one
Vesta Burning is the next book :)
Good book
Amazing
Every time I hear Tim, I picture Luke from season 1 of Modern Family🤣
I need to finish the whole Rika series. I just finished#3
UA-cam's system seemed to indicate that it would be done automatically at logical breakpoints, and there's a gap at the end of each chapter, but it seems to have not done it :S
Would like to hear the rest of
The series
8:59:35 Andy’s helmet is off. Cargo hold is completely decompressed. No oxygen. How is Andy still alive to converse with Lyssa pork Tlm ?
So is this a new way books are marketed authors are putting some of their stuff online to attract more fans
Ty
20 min in and hoping Tim gets air locked.
🤣😂
Can't take hearing about how poor these spacers are any more
Amazing work!
Check out Gerald M. Kilby's Colony mars series and his ateroid series if you like this. Absolutely brilliant!
Hey just wondering is there any chance "the orian wars will be narrated on utube sometime
Alas no. That series is with a publisher and I don't have the rights to put it up here
Great story if you don't mind a million backstories, kinda kills the present tense momentum big time.
Women cannot do men's voices, but at least she tries to make each character different.
I really wouldn't want her to try. It'll come off as forced. Men can't do women's voices, either, so it's a wash.
❤️
I'm sorry Lissa:s dream.
3:55 DEAD-MAN switch 4:03 steam ?
reader chose to use a too-dam breathy voice
Steam.Easy to generate, easy "fuel", no residue, good mass ratio.
Love the story. Horrifying how stupid the son is, though.
The story seems good so far, but I don't care for the narrator. She sounds like she is whispering the story to someone, or like she's reading to a child a bedtime story trying to not wake up someone laying next to him/her.
