Using EA in California as representative is ridiculous. Look at the rest of the country or at Tesla. I’ve never waited at an EA station and never waited more than about 15 mins at a Tesla SuperCharger (at exactly one location, and they’ve since added another in that area). 28k miles of Tesla road trips, 5k on EA. I won’t go back to gas.

Now you know why Hertz dumped their fleet. But how on earth can drivers be comfortable knowing they are guzzling THAT much POWER - it's mind-boggling. I'd like to know what some factories could turn out with the amount of power consumed by a regular EV in a week - it really is unsustainable!

If we'd had electric cars exclusively for the last hundred years and then today someone invented gas and diesel engines it would be seen as a great leap forward in technology.
Double the range, short recharging times, no battery degradation, less weight.

It probably would be too, less toxic materials, less environmental damage given the amount of earth that has to be moved to find enough lithium to make ONE battery, no need for everyone to have their own refuelling point. less tyre and subsequently less road wear and tear and so on. You're bang on there. Brilliant post.
Conversely if electric had seen the trillions of R&D that ICE has enjoyed including all the bailouts.
Gasoline would be a niche.
Because electrics are less than 5 years away from 600+ mile vehicles.
Just think where electrics would be if they had the same amount of research and development put into it.

Comes down to cost in the end (and pollution). With battery swap you can change to a charged battery in about 3 minutes (will get faster and faster). You can manufacture a very cheap EV with a tiny battery for everyday use - swap in a huge battery for the weekend. That system is already in place in China. When an EV is half the price of an ICE car most buyers will choose the EV.

I fill up my vehicle in 5 mins, and I'm good for two weeks. No muss, no fuss.... Think I'd ever want an EV?! Not even if it was given to me!
If you only drive less than 50 km average per day like you seem to do, it is not much of a hassle to plug in your EV and have it topped up overnight at home. That is, if you have your own driveway of course... Otherwise you will have to hunt down a public charging point and suffer like the driver in this video. Having your EV topped up at home and never having to drive by any gas station is a luxury you get used too...

@ttkddry charging is just one of many drawbacks. There's also range, weather, high insurance, horrible resale value, huge battery replacement costs, tire wear, and fires. To top it off, they're horrible for the environment.
So your waste well over 2 hours a year standing by the pump waiting for your car to fill up. That's about what I spend per year fast charging while I do other things, like shopping, eating etc. Use slower AC charging (at home if you have it or in parking lots everywhere) when not on a road trip. Much cheaper (some times free) and better for the car.
EV owners, pushing the price of electricity up until EV's become uncool again.

Why would anyone want to be a slave to the utility companies that have a monopoly and can charge what ever they want, when the petrol stations have multiple different brands and competitors that force them to be competitively priced?

Don't get me wrong, we have Hyundai EV's at work and I drive them often, and the drive really well, but privately I own a 36 year old car with 2 liter petrol engine and will never let go of it!
I've got an old Holden combo and an old Hyundai Getz... both are paid off and work well and are cheap to comprehensively insure... I'm keeping them going as long as I possibly can.
I believe the combo could possibly be converted to steam according to a video I watched so if they cut off my petrol I'm good.. 😅😅😅😢
As I just mentioned in my own comment, before the video I got a short ad for the new Mitsubishi Triton Athlete . . . diesel. As EVs come and go away, ICE is here to stay!

Imagine spending an entire afternoon, evening, night and morning worrying, planning, driving around, just trying to charge a car... when you could simply spend five minutes at a gas station and then be trouble free for the next couple days
This is why ICE has been around for decades because - it f**ing works! A gas station is a place where drivers are not supposed to spend more than 15min in, assuming they just want top up gas and not buying stuff.
@diecastb imagine having to pay 1.5x more for an EV compared to an ICE car and having to install an expensive charger to boot, for a vehicle that you won't be able to sell used because its value will be zero, as noone will want to buy a used EV, all while being limited to the pathetic range of your EV?
EV owners obsess about being EV owners and everything is subject to that. Buy an EV, must redesign your home with a charger... or if you take a trip, you must constantly plan and worry about charging in public spaces...

None of what you said is actually true.... Plug in at home.. Car is done in the morning. Can get a basic charger for less than $200
Navigation in a Tesla.. is EASY.. car figured it ALL out.
Non Teslas are more complicated.. but getting better.
It comes down to cost.. while charging at home it cost me $7 to drive 200-250 miles. At a public charger it is a little cheaper than gas.

I drive for a living.. I know what my costs are.. and the EV is about 1/2 the price overall. And I paid $20K for a nice low mileage used EV.. same price as any nice newer ICE..
Don't forget the increased likelihood these days of being robbed, beaten, kidnapped, raped, or murdered when you linger too long at a "fueling" station, be it gasoline, diesel, or electric. The idea is to go when it's daylight with lots of people around, get your fuel quickly, and get the heck out of there. It's a real concern in American cities now, and it's spreading.
No you're wrong. To avoid the queues you need to go charge after 11pm or 6am as this guys was doing. The most "safe" times.
You're like the last turkey in the window when tethered to one of these chargers. Very vulnerable. There should be an emergency release button in the car so you can get away quickly
Yep, the States of America is dangerous and getting more dangerous as it becomes more divided on so many issues.
It has become necessary to avoid the gas stations after 10 or 11 PM...unless you are armed, which many are where I live.
At least EV's are less desirable as targets for carjacking.

I'm in my 12th month driving an EV, the experience of this poor guy is genuine. 2 months ago I completely dropped the idea of using my EV other than going to work and charge it once a week (at work). I'm repairing a 12 years old 125k Kms smart for two I bought in 2018 to have a car over the weekends. EVs are an absolute nightmare, don't buy one if you don't have a dedicated charger at home or at work and you need a car for holidays or weekends. It's just ok to commute, nothing else. I'm outraged each time I hear a politician speaking about having everybody on an EV, this is impossible. Some days ago I listened to a guy on the radio, a representative of the Spanish car industry, speaking about pushing EVs and stopping ICE. When the journalist asked him what car he was driving, he answered"a plug-in hybrid"... Of course!
And there's the affluent neighbor lady who puts the area in darkness whenever she hooks up to charge her piece of crap.Throws the breaker on the pole, and we're all out of it.
I was told that I was being ridiculous when I pointed this problem out. Someone said you charge your car at night at home on off peak electricity, then you do all your driving. When you return home you plug in your car and run your house off it. When the battery is empty you charge it off peak. It was a 'win win' . Off peak will not exist when everybody is trying to charge up. You cannot magically run your house from the car battery. There are not enough hours in a day to charge your car at home. You may not be able to park outside your house or you live in a block of flats. Glad the truth is slowly sinking in. People will believe anything they are told by an authoritative source.

I also think it is part of some larger picture to get rid of us plebs somehow to extend the world's finite resources for our betters.
Did I it hurt when you thought this up? The concept of using access EV battery storage capacity is not predicated on ONE EV providing power for ONE house! It is designed to utilise spare capacity from a multitude of EV’s connected via an intelligent grid network. It is a sound and smart engineering solution coming to a suburb near you soon…

Imagine the utter waste of time that continually running around charging your vehicle up! Day in and day out taking time away from your family!! Utterly impractical at the best of times. Let alone when the grid barely can handle the current loads, let alone the 20 fold needs for everyone to be in EV’s by 2035. Plus the generation capacity needs a 30 fold increase, which is primarily coal generated in the USA. Imagine the pollution generated from this! Utterly ridiculous!

Now imagine doing it WITH your family. The infant who won't stop crying. The toddler always getting into trouble. The whiny pre-teen. The moody teenager. All waiting in your car with YOU for hours.
Not only that, but many of these chargers are state-funded. In other words, taxpayers pay to have them installed. But if you don't have an EV, then you pay for someone else's charging station. I even heard that some motels offer free charging for their customers. So why wouldn't I get a food voucher or some other freebie from the same motel if I did not drive an EV? Why is one group singled out for privilege?

Last time someone checked I was sane. Have owned an EV since 2019 and 98,000 km. Never had to wait for my car to charge on long hauls across Europe. A 30 minute stop to have lunch and use the bathroom is all the 'waiting' Ive ever done.

it was interesting story of the guy who drove like 10 or 12 hours a day for uber and burned up his battery by charging at fast chargers twice a day in 100.000 miles his car was ruined and he was still paying for it. the car was only a year old.
Well this is what your looking at if you use an ev like a ice vehicle....

With the depreciation dropping off a cliff at the end of a year or so your ev would be battling to be worth scrap value.....

I business cars can be run 12 hours a day..
Imagine having somewhere to go, and time IS an issue. An unexpected out of town emergency or an illness that requires you to go to the next big city hospital.
My concern exactly. So phev would solve this issue.. Saves fuel cost and environment and handles long distance emergency no problem.

There have been stories here in the New England area of this very thing. People with RIvians "towing" other EV's out of spaces so they could charge.
@@thumperjdm It is already a thing. I live about a block from a charging station and go by constantly on my walks/bike rides. I have seen several people in shouting/shoving matches and have seen the police there breaking it up a few times as well. It is a gas station as well and know the employees and they say it happens almost every day.
Yeah I get peeved turning up to a gas station and there's a bit of a queue! I couldn't imagine life like that guy had crawling around scrounging for a charger. The last thing would want to do after getting to my accommodation late at night is to then go out again look to find place to fuel up my car (even if it were ICE).

GM engineers saw it during the testing of the EV1 in the 1990s. Many of them retired and moved on, replaced with ideologues.

I was at Costco in Avon, OH yesterday. I think they have at least 20 pumps. I pulled in behind a lady in a midsize suv. She hadcissues with her card at the pump. Pulled forward, her card worked on the next pump. I waited for that pump. That whole transaction took about 7-10 mins. Then I pulled my F150 up and got 20 gallons of gas. Which took 5 mins.
I'll keep my ICE fleet for now.
2017 F150, 2019 Escape, 2023 Charger Daytona, 2010 Harley Softail.
5-10 mins and you're good for 300+ miles per tank in the Escape and Charger, 600+ in the F150 (36 gallon tank, 22+ mpg highway at speeds at or below 75 mph).
EV's will never be superior.

The people who can afford a new car are obviously the people who can most afford an EV, so the question has to be, if 70% can charge at home then why aren't 70% of all new car sales EVs if they're so good?

Not everybody has a driveway or garage....
Many homes Cannot have chargers at home... Flats for instance.. Many house in the UK only have on street parking as the house has NO drive and no front garden, or gargae etc....So the only option is Public chargers or if they are lucky they may be able to charge at work... But hell the EV nutjobs will still Push for EV's saying they are the best thing ever... YEAH WHATEVER...

We increase our safety, living standards and productivity by consuming more energy, not less. Thats why fossil fuel, particularly crude oil, has been such a boon for humanity.
Public charging in Australia is now being priced to be roughly - very roughly - comparable to unleaded petrol. It seems very very unlikely that this is ever going to decrease. So those in apartments or park their cars on the street or have more cars than garage space for whatever other reason are entirely reliant on public charging (and CSIRO / AEMO figures suggest that that is fully 40% of the population) are NEVER going to recover the price premium they paid for the (dubious) privilege of driving an EV. And despite reality denier Your ABC's outrage on the matter, bodies corporate in blocks of units are not permitting installation of high current power points for EV charging in carparks under blocks of units.
They most likely are not allowing installation of fast chargers because they do not have the power to supply it.
And they haven't added the road taxes yet. Just wait, they're just getting started on pricing.
Charging at Public spots in the UK is the same, And from what have been told and seen, A full charge can in many cases be MORE than only half filling a Petrol car!!!
And governments will soon add taxes on EVs to match fuel excise.

And having only 1/5 of size of battery of similarly sized BEV. Truly best of the both worlds. No ICE vehicles are not as good as PHEVs, nor is BEVs.

I can't even handle waiting in line for 5 minutes to put petrol in my car. I'll just drive to the next servo and pay extra if I have to. THERE IS NO WAY ON EARTH I WOULD TOLERATE WAITING FOR HOURS TO CHARGE MY CAR WHILE ON THE ROAD! NEVER GONNA HAPPEN!!
4 years running an EV van for work, in that time max wait for a charger was 5 or 6 mins, and only had to wait 2 or 3 times. a few times I see the chargers are in use, but as I've planned for that I simply roll on by and stop at the next set up the road and charge there.
I recently on weekend went to costco in Canberra and was staing in the queue 15 minutes. I was blaming and was saying. No more, no more go to costco on weekend. I was 15 minutes saying to myself go on weekdays. Do not go on weekend. This was 15 minutes wait. I can't imagine spending 1h to gat 50%.
It is already a thing. I live about a block from a charging station and go by constantly on my walks/bike rides. I have seen several people in shouting/shoving matches and have seen the police there breaking it up a few times as well. It is a gas station as well and know the employees and they say it happens almost every day.
@@stuinNorway If you're in Norway it's a different situation as the country has invested in it big time and more or less demonised ICE cars. You're also a small population mostly living in one area of the country and travel longer journeys by train, especially if you're going North. Totally different scenario over here in the UK, US and most other countries.
Incidentally, as luck has it we don't have to plan anything with an ICE car, we can stop and fill up anywhere. Most of us don't mind waiting a couple of minutes for a pump and most of the time there's no waiting at all especially if you avoid the busy periods. Having to plan your trip is just one more time consuming job to do, and will be confusing for older drivers.
I also will never join the stupid queues at petrol stations where the price is randomly lower than anywhere else. In the long run it will make not one bit of difference to my bottom line.

Speaking to the petrol station person. She tells me there's suppose to be 8 charge points. 6 were never installed. Due to grid limitations.
They no longer report the out of order unit, it's been reported several times and now it's a waste of time, they know, they haven't bothered.
The EV queues are 4 to 6 deep.
I've filled up, seen someone waiting, been to work, come back, topped up with diesel and they are still waiting 6 hours later!

I read this morning a report that the Issa brothers (owners of Asda) are ordering that EV public charging points are to be ripped out of the forecourts of many of their supermarkets.
There are a few others in the UK doing similar some Sainsbury stores have removed their chargers.

The best part about waiting in a queue for charging is you have stay in the the queue because you wont have the range to try somewhere else and will freeze to death if it's winter because you can't have the heating on for the entire 4 hrs of queueing.

Video material suggestion... You have started to make excellent points. What is at the heart of the problem? Concepts... Two main concepts at play here. Fuel vs grid
1) It can take a year to make Ethanol or It can take a 2-3 months to make oil fuels, but nobody cares how long it takes at the factory or plant. To grow wheat for bread takes all season, but do we care? NO! You walk into the grocery store and buy the bread and walk out. This concept is NOT about cars, but how the world works. Time is money. We buy things from other people to SAVE time...
You drive into the fuel station, and fill up with 67.4 kwh (2 gallons gasoline, 7.57 liters), which is the typical charge of an EV. You do it at a rate of 20,220 kw (10 gal/min of petrol - gasoline) in 12 seconds. (67.4 kwh /20220 kw x 60 x 60 = 12 seconds).
A combustion car that got the SAME economy (coming soon...) as an EV would take just 12 seconds to fill up.
An old ICE car uses ~5x more energy which means 1 minute vs 12 seconds for 10 gallons vs 2 gallons. But why only get 2 or 10 gallons of fuel? Get 20 to 60 and spend 120 to 360 seconds or 2 -6 minutes filling the car while you wash the window of bugs, grab some food or take a pee...
Remember, that 20 to 60 gallons took 1 years to make as Ethanol (1 season of corn), and several months as oil, but you don't care in the least how long. You only care about the price. If time is money, you pay for the time it takes to make the fuel so when you show up and fill up, the tank is full after you finish cleaning the window or taking a pee.
This is how a market economy works. MacDonalds does it this way. You drive up, order, grab the poison and drive off. They make the burgers in advance, let them sit under a heat lamp and you get your "burger" on the go. This is why stores have stocked shelves. This is what a grocery store does. It allows you to save TIME in exchange for cash (time).
2) EV...
A battery or capacitor could, in theory, charge up and dump the power into the car at 20,000 kw, the same as a gasoline, but the problem is the stupid battery. The battery is like baking bread, it takes time and is limited by the max current the battery can take. 68 kwh at 100 kw is 40.44 minutes (2,426 seconds), not 12 seconds.
A station could have massive battery or capacitor banks (mega $$$) that buffer the surge loads of cars into station, thus having the grid making a more constant power feed to the station, allowing surge loads and 20,000 kw charging, but at what cost? It does not matter as the car battery cannot handle the charge by a factor of 100x.
Why are batteries so slow? Because they are a chemical process with ions needing to find a "home" in a chemical bath of electrolytes.
Fuel making is a chemical process too. In theory, fuel making and charging could be about the same rate...slow. KEY point... Nobody care about the rare with fuel, but they do with charging.
A customer cannot drive up and grab quickly what fuel offers. They have to wait for the electrons to find a home as they charge. The CONCEPT of a battery is silly stupid at the core compared to fuel.
What is a battery anyways? The Lithium in a battery is about equal to 67.4 kwh and weighs about the same as fuel. Lithium is 11,972 wh/kg and Petrol/gasohol (E10) is 12, 094 wh/kg. The rest of a battery is a "process" device for Li-ions to migrate across the board and find a new home... A 1000 LB battery is basically 20 lbs of fuel and 980 lbs of process device.
In theory, if a car captured CO2 and water, it could have a "process divice" on board that turned the CO2 and water back into fuel ON THE CAR, just like a battery does. It would have a 2 gallon tank (67.4 kwh) and when you plugged the car in, it would make fuel overnight and you would have 2 gallons of fuel waiting to be used. The process device would take up about the same space as a battery and weigh about the same...980 LB. Follow?
But nobody would want a car with 980 LBs of fuel making on board. The fuel maker should be at home making fuel, waiting for you to "fill up" when you get home. It would also be silly stupid to have a 2 gallon tank, so 20 would be typical. You would fill up every ten days or when you get the urge, if you will. It would take 2 minutes to get 20 gallons and the good fuel maker can go back to doing what it does best...making fuel independent of YOUR time. A nice 300 gallon tank at home would allow fuel to be stored up all ready for you to fill up as needed, and would make you energy independent from a grid in Winter.
20 gallons of battery electricity would cost around $448k with PowerWalls at $666/kwh. (20 x 33.7 x $666/kwh = $448,884) and 300 gallons would cost $6.7 mil. A 300 gallon tank costs around $300...
The point is, a battery is a silly stupid concept for a car, house, airplane, or anything that can use fuels and combustion. Time is money. Nobody cares how long it takes to make the fuel, but they do care how long it takes to make the battery "fuel" in the car. The processor, whether a fuel maker or battery, should be left at home/plant, and NOT be on the vehicle.
Yes, this was all known in 1990 when my old boss invented modern EVs. Elon failed to grasp this simple concept of processor. Any engineer worth anything should be able to understand the value of time.
In fact the entire economy understands time and is based on it. That is why we let farmers grow food, and car makers make cars...TIME.

I experienced a similar situation long before EV's. In the late 80's I went on a family cruise through the Hawaiian Islands. We'd sail through the night and make port early in the morning. Then my BIW and I would run out into town to rent cars. We'd get back to the dock about 0930. Drive out for a few frenzied hours of trying to see the sights, then around 1500 we'd start the return process, getting back to the ship in time for it to head out to sea again. It was fours of work for four hours of "fun". I was always worried about the time, and certain timeless sleep-in relatives. After a few days of that I just wanted to lay on a beach somewhere.
I couldn't have possibly imagined then that this might be a preview of my future.

Yes, the way they talk about filling up with proper fuel as if it's some sort of really difficult, terrible chore we have to endure is laughable. Almost as though they think we've never seen a petrol pump and don't realise how it works. Most of those who can charge at home don't have a garage, so they have to faff about in the rain or snow or whatever the weather throws at us, almost certainly not under cover, and the same again the following morning to unplug it. And with most cars it seems that has to be done every 150 miles or so. But hey, whoopie-dooo, "magical chargers are coming that will charge your EV in 5 minutes and will take you 1000 miles between charging", they cry...yeah, whatever. Good luck with that you EV fans, you've fallen for the hype once while they emptied your bank account and you're STILL falling for it.

When @MGUYTV talks about throughput he makes a schoolboy error. He assumes EV throughput needs to be the same as ICE throughput, but off course the majority of EV charging happens at home. Yes as you point out many cannot do this but in the UK workplace and street charging is becoming more and more common. Whatever case it looks like an EV needing a public charger for more than 1 in 5 charges is unlikely. So MGUYs throughput figures of 20 v 100 look equivalent!

So you can with a NIO. Swap in a new battery in about 3 minutes. Station can charge hundreds of batteries overnight when cost is low. You can choose to rent your battery as a service. That is why Tesla is dead unless the sign a deal with NIO for battery swap tech and infrastructure.

In my city of 2 milllion people, we do not have a single fast charger, but EVs are already being sold. The electric grid also runs near capacity most of the time. Most EVs here probably just get used as second or third cars by those who can afford them. Nevertheless the government is promoting BEVs and EV public transport. Hopefully the people of the Philippines will resist this fad forcing companies and governments to dial back their plans.
Charging Stations will become a criminal’s paradise! Perhaps armed guards could be stationed at each location to lessen the danger of sitting for 30 minutes to 2 hours waiting for a charge up. Wonder how much you’ll have to tip them to keep you safe!?!?
Yesterday I drove from regional NSW to Sydney and back. Approx 800 kms (500 miles) total. Did one top-up as we left, and another in Sydney for the return trip, each taking 3-4 minutes. Very rare to see an EV on the Mid North Coast, with bugger all infrastructure.
Don't forget the huge losses between the power station and the point of use, and when you throw Air Source Heat Pumps into the mix, it simple isn't viable.
The losses don't just happen between the power station and the charger; they happen upstream and downstream of that, too. Then there's things like pre-heating the car so it's toasty warm to get into, and pre-heating the battery to get it ready for charging, so all that hard-to-generate, limited supply, lossy, queued-up-and-waited-for electricity isn't even used directly for transport purposes.
We could extend the range of evs and eliminate range anxiety by having removable floor pans and extend the range Flintstones style and imagine the health benefits. Call the model say...Tsela Ozmepic.
Here in the United States road rage is a real issue. EV drivers are a large portion of the drivers involved in road rage incidents. They are unhappy with their EV'S and suffer from range anxiety, high charging costs (California), and the utter disrespect shown to them by other drivers. This puts them on edge and highly susceptible to road rage.
I live in Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦and I had to call EA (Electrify America) in the USA 🇺🇸to find EC Electrify Canada ,the Canadian website was absolutely USELESS,as EVs themselves are. I did talk to a very nice operatorcat EA and she tried to find EC charging stations in Toronto, we only found 3 all out of the city . This is such utter BS ,all to CONTROL PEOPLE

Companies and organizations that do charge-park spaces only build out like 5-10 spaces max. These are companies who pay people to "look into the future" and tell them how many to put in.... They KNOW nobody's buying them and they EXPECT that to continue so far into the future that they're not even projecting it as something to invest in on a 10+ year time-horizon.
We are *NOT* getting total EV adoption by 2030, and that was never the actual plan that anyone reasonable actually believes is possible or realistic... Or rather; we're not getting it without them _forcing_ people out of cars they already owned (like a gold-grab, but with cars); creating a new classist system. The have-nots, and the have-yachts (or cars, in the case). This will indirectly force people into working closer to home, or moving closer to work; allowing those anti-freedom masterminds to sneak "15-minute cities" right through the back door. 15-Minute cities is a concept by Schwab/Soros types... wet dream of the WEF/Daavos/Builderberg groups (the ones that say "You will own nothing, privacy will cease to exist, and you will be happy"). It's essentially surrogate mass-imprisonment of the general public through heavily restricted, prohibitively expensive, and/or "controlled demolition" of certain transportation modalities, through whatever means possible.... _Including_ deliberate lowering of standards and safety measures to _SCARE_ you into not flying anymore... All they have to do is sacrifice 2-5 years (because most people can develop permanent lifestyle habits in just 2-3 years as shown by COVID) of just _one_ of the companies they are major/controlling shareholders of (or play financier/creditor via DEI/ESG grants that are designed to create codependency; and is ultimately just a hostile takeover mechanic for billionaires that doesn't require them to register M&A or securities--at least not immediately)... you know.... hypothetically for instance; in my own opinion.

I doubt the average EV owner has considered when they plug their car in at home it's the equivalent of plugging in 250 1kW electric bar heaters.
No fast-charging at home! At home people will likely have a 7kW (singe-phase), 11 kW or 22 kW (triple-phase) AC charger, which is similar to the consumption of a tankless water heater.
A private home would not be able to afford a 250kW fast charger that costs upwards of 100,000 US$. Therefore the car would need to charge about 8 hours overnight. Fast-charging at home is virtually impossible for the foreseeable future, as the grid can barely handle the slow chargers.

Local grids just don't have the excess capacity to support these chargers. The cost to get Ausgrid to make a special connection like that would be many hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars and would take forever to plan and execute. The charging station operator would have to charge exorbitant rates in order to be profitable after consideration of the connection costs and real estate for the site. With ten chargers at the site, the 250kW chargers won't work at better than 120kW. So charge times over an hour.
So 200 cars a day have to pay for it all! What are they going to charge those 200 cars to be profitable? Private operators won't do it. Government money?
there's another alternative make a diesel plug-in hybrid car. which has small battery for 40-70km range. In winter it has heat from ICE, it can run air con and at he same time it covers 95 percent of days for daily commute. Why not to make this? I'm waiting Model Y plugin hybrid diesel.

Even charging at home has problems when lots and lots of people re doing it. Take the recent case in California where the energy authorities requested people to not run their air conditioners unless really needed and to not use their EV's unless really needed. Yeah that's very interesting. What are they thinking? Siting hours in EV waiting and thinking if the Exploding Vehicle will explode or not while they sitting extra hours takign the extra risk. I have made decision not buy based on just sole risk of driving inside not safe. I have not considered the thing I need to sit and wait and think if it explodes or not. Make sure you have at least 70 percent charge in your battery then look for public charging stations. 😂

There's this Ev van company called "Arrival", in the UK. It's been around for 10 years or so. It was worth around $13 billion just 2 years ago....

Hertz rental car company backed out of a huge tesla Ev purchase of 100,000 ev's. Soon after, Hertz backed out of a huge purchase of 65,000 Chinese Polestar ev's. They did that because ev's cost to much to own, and too much to operate. The CEO of Hertz, Stephen Scherr, is stepping down from his position late March, 2024.He blamed EVs for the Loss of revenue. The cars were more expensive to maintain than Hertz had initially thought, and the company couldn’t make as much money selling them, when it needed to refresh its offerings

Thank You for your channel. I'm 64 years and you are 100% correct. I'm old school and I never ever never will own an EV. I have a classic car, It's a 1963 Chevrolet Impala Super Sport Coupe. It has an aftermarket 454 Big Block Chevy gas engine. I will keep it that way as long as they keep making gasoline. My son will get it after I'm gone and he's only 27 and he think that EV's Are ridiculous too!
This reminds me of a vicious circle that takes place in life for many reasons. Many years ago I was at a seminar where we were talking about protocols for capturing refrigerant and not allowing it to be vented into the atmosphere. I raised the point of customers bringing their vehicles back for repair only when the system had already stopped cooling. Which by this time, the refrigerant had already been vented into the atmosphere due to a leak, so that refrigerant is not playing by the rules. Here we have the conundrum of electricity which never plays by the rules,. These high output chargers cant deliver this rating when many are in use simultaneously, plus there is a constant queue as well; so you wait for a charger but its now at a reduced charging output as well, so you wait even more for the reduced output. Then there is the dilemma of shortened battery life due to fast charging and the exorbitant replacement price of the batteries as well owners will have to foot. The landscape of the future is going to be littered with all these dead EVs in the near future that are worthless, we see its already happening in China.

The reason a replacement battery costs as much as the whole car is worth is because all EV's are heavily subsidized by government.
Replacement batteries attract no such subsidy.

It's so quick and easy to fill up an ice car and I don't drive a lot so it doesn't even happen very often, twice a month at most and it takes maybe 2 minutes tops to fill up because I don't run the tank to empty. I couldn't imagine intentionally putting myself into a position where I'd have to endure long waits, slow charges and chargers that don't work at all. Why would anyone put themselves through that kind of never ending hell? Maybe if you own a home and don't really go anywhere, maybe then an EV makes sense, but what about the very many people who live in apartments and row housing? Do they take the bus? Screw that, YOU take the bus, I'll keep my ice car.
But Albanese said we can charge with our solar panels overnight... no problems.

Imagine if everyone did have a charger at home... it still wouldn't work the amount of power being drawn all the lines the whole system from station to home would need to upgrade which would be years of work
And several TRILLIONS in cost too... And guess who would have too pay for it all.....
OK, just to inform you, charging at home, which is preferable for NMC chemistries as it's kinder on the battery, can be done at 240V and 15 Amps or less. That will give you an overnight charge of between 30-50kWh. If everyone in a suburb did that it wouldn't be an issue as there is excess power running at night. That's why off peak is used then.
@@yggdrasil9039 And you STILL ignore the fact that the ACTUALLY thing that supplies you with the power too charge needs UPGRADNG and increasing in capacity..You also ignore the facts that IF everyone actually charged at night there would still be issues and MANY vehicles(Busses and trucks for instance) Require Much bigger input than a car, As well as the fact that at best 50% could charge at night as many work during the twightlight hours(me included) as well as many vehicles are in use and of those that don't work nights many will NOT have the ability too charge(eg they live in Flats etc). Jog on Buddy and you go enjoy your Toy.... Whilst the rest of us can FILL UP when ever and where ever...
@@hudsonbear5038 Yeah, well everyone wouldn't all charge at exactly the same time anyway, that indeed would be dumb. Some will charge at night, some during the day, and some would be feeding back into the grid.
That's the whole point of dispatchable power.
As you mention, there are hurdles to overcome, like people who live in apartments accessing charging.
All of that needs to be sorted out, because price parity of EVs will occur this year in China, and next year for everyone else, at which point EV sales will very rapidly go to 90% of sales.
If none of those things you mention haven't been sorted out, there's going to be issues.

It would be interesting to see how manufacturers warranty their batteries and what 'get out' clauses they use.
To start with the 70%. That's all they guarantee from day one. If your battery holds 71% capacity even though it's only a month old? No warranty for you. You just took a 100 mile range haircut Beyond, the 100 mile range loss in real world driving conditions. Hope you got the 390 mile model because you now have the 200 mile model and that's using 100%, 120 mile model if you only use 20% to 80%. 60 mile model at below zero temperatures.
This is hilarious! EVs are nothing more than large fancy golf carts that go 150 kmh, but you can't use them on a path.
If I was a government official, I was would say to cure this problem we need more EVs.
The crazy part is the huge size of these SUV EV tanks ! Talk about kWh guzzlers. It would take five days for my solar panels to charge one of these rolling flame throwers.
That's if your house wasn't pulling any power. It would probably take a week if you shared power with the house.
