Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 чер 2024
- We'll learn a simple and thrilling method to approach Lydian - in that way we'll create an Exciting and Fun Lydian Playground suited for Modern Jazz improvisation. We can use the Lydian Playground both when playing with or without a band.
First we'll learn to play Lydian by using a simple Major Triad Add2 structure. Then we'll do thrilling Lydian Progressions. Then we'll play gripping Contrary and Oblique Motions. And finally we'll exercise thrilling Lydian Motifs and Phrases.
In this NewJazz Music video • Modern jazz in LYDIAN ... I play a Lydian Jam Vamp ("Lydian Jamp") together with Fabricio Pereira (bass) and Erik Frandsen (drums). I use the exact same jazz techniques as we've learned in our NewJazz lesson. I've of course made the usual Graphical Overlay so that you can see the hand grips in use on top of the piano. I really hope that you'll enjoy :)
All NewJazz lessons are free, public and for everybody. I have no sponsors and I sell no merchandise. I'm just little me trying to make Music the EPIC CENTER of everything! If you want to help me keep going you are so much welcome to make a small voluntary donation at either www.PayPal.me/NewJazz or / newjazz
You can also just give me a nice like - moral support is also great support!!! Thank you so much :) :) :)

So far I learnt a lot and can't stop improvising with other musicians using your technique. They said this is pure jazz and they love listening to it. I jam online with other musicians, If you ever want to join, It's for free and can use virtual sounds through a midi cable to connect your piano with them🎵
How do you do this with no latency?
@@anttt7993 I played on Jamtaba, it is a free software that allows musicians to play together online in real-time. It has a built-in metronome feature that can be used to help musicians stay in time with each other. The metronome can be set to a specific tempo and time signature, and each musician can hear it through their headphones or speakers. Jamtaba also offers other tools such as chat and file-sharing to help musicians collaborate effectively. They are synchronized.
Im curious, do you ever play an acoustic piano? I'm a few years into learning on a digital piano, with a similar style to yours, and I find that the sustain pedal is way more forgiving on the keyboard. Do you do any practice targeting pedal work? I have found that playing a slower and ambient style has made my pedal technique a bit too lax. When I go to play something faster, I have to much more aware of my pedaling. When playing in the style of the video, it can be easy to just hold the pedal down.
Always enjoy your videos! Glad to see you have gained so many subs!
Hi and thanks a lot :) :) :) I've made a video about how to use the sustain pedal. Maybe it's useful to you. Cheers from Oliver

Wow thanks Sir a lots... long time . sr Sir i'm say english to bad ^^
Hi Oliver, I was thinking about the pattern you're using here. I could be wrong but the structure is very similar harmonically to the pentatonic one of your lessons on polimodality. There You get the Lydian mode by a pentatonic row in the key of C i.e. A, E and B minor pentatonic and in this lesson we have triads G C and D establishing modality. So we could say that pattern changes but harmony stay the same. I would like to get your thinking about that.
Best regards
Hi :) Yes, exactly!!! It's two different hand grips, two different ways to do Lydian, two different patterns and sounds on Lydian. Cheers from Oliver
Hi Oliver, can you upload a video about different types of chord substitution?
Hi :) Great suggestion. But I have so many requests - but I'll have it in mind for sure :) Best regards from Oliver
@@NewJazz Thank you 😊
Sir, I need a favor please.
I am taking Jazz seriously these days and I finished your beginner playlist. What playlist would you recommend next?
Well, each lesson can be seen individually and they are actually not meant for the purpose of being watched in a specific order. So the idea is that you just zap around and choose whatever interests you. Many lessons start up easy and then they get harder and harder. So if a lesson becomes too difficult (or weird) you just skip that lesson and make a fresh start with another one. That’s the main idea!!! I talk more about this way of learning Music in this video: ua-cam.com/video/a735i7FZlmI/v-deo.html
But anyway, I’ve made this playlist trying to sort the videos in a suggested order: ua-cam.com/play/PLd8gNAxPUcJw1DmmWooCWx_jgKzgBfYGp.html
At the front page of the NewJazz channel you also have other different entrances to the lessons: ua-cam.com/users/newjazz
And on the “playlist tab” you’ll find even more categories/chunks of lessons: ua-cam.com/users/newjazz/playlists
Cheers from Oliver
Sounding great, but I just wonder if you mentioned "C" lydian
, why not appears the raised 4, witch is F# - as I know the lydian meannings is the raised 4 degree in major mode.
Correct, C Lydian has an augmented 4th step compared to the Major mode. I'm no totally sure about your question - maybe you can elaborate a little? Cheers from Oliver
I thought Lydian started on the 4th note of whatever scale is being used and Mixolydian started on the 5th note of whatever scale is being used. If that is correct wouldn't B Lydian start on E natural rather than F#? Maybe i'm confused? @@NewJazz
THE ONE Elton John
Although the five-tone scale finger technique can quickly locate notes, if I am playing 71234 instead of 61235, does that mean the finger technique has changed?
Hi :) Can you maybe elaborate a little? I'm not totally sure about what you mean... Cheers from Oliver
@@NewJazz What I mean is, when you play the five notes of 6-1-2-3-5, do you use the same fingering if you play the five notes of 7-1-2-3-4 on the pentatonic scale, or do you use different fingering?
Hi :) I'm still not totally sure about what the numbers illustrates - the steps on a specific scale maybe? But maybe I can answer your question anyway. The hand grip technique is not meant as a tool to play specific phrases or melodies. We often can't use the hand grip technique to play a written song melody. But though you may not be able to play a specific melody you can still extract thousands of different phrases from a simple hand grip. The hand grip technique is ment as an improvisation tool; a tool to structuralize our improvisation and to set the mind free. Cheers from Oliver
Sir, your right fingers are walking on these keys like walking in the garden of Eden and they look like they're just touching the keys, not even pressing them. What's the secret behind that? I really need to reach this level of comfort in my playing :( I've been practicing and playing piano for 6 yrs now. I guess I'll have another 10 yrs to reach this level.
SWEEEET! :)
Thank you so much :) This other lesson (quite silly but useful I hope) is about how to play fast and easy - maybe you can use some of the techniques we learn in that lesson ;) ua-cam.com/video/B0GK-TMLYpg/v-deo.html
Best regards from Oliver
When we say lydian on C. don't we mean the key signature of G??
Or we do mean Lydian on F?
In otherwords the natural keys!!
Hi :) Good question. I mean Lydian on C. That's C in the bass and the notes c-d-e-f#-g-a-b. The G Major scale share those keys - but we do not hear G Major, because C is our main Key. So we hear C Lydian with it's characteristic augmented 4th step.
And correct; Lydian on F share keys with the C Major scale.
Cheers from Oliver
add2 no3 -> what happened to "sus2" notation? :)
Hahaha - and hi my friend ;) Yes, "sus2" would be a more accurate notation for the left hand. I guess my excuse could be that it's because I wanted the left and right hand grip notations to be consistent. Thanks a lot for great input on this ;) Cheers from Oliver
@@NewJazz for the guy that invented the mixolydian flat 1 scale, I'm not surprised anymore :)
Haha - well, I'm not done yet, messing up, not at all. In a couple of months from now I'm planning to make a lesson that presents a brand new and more free approach to scales. But I know that you have a free and open mind, so you can handle it I'm sure ;) Cheers from Oliver
That bassist towards the end 😭
Yes, Fabricio (the bass player) is crazy - crazily talented! Cheers from Oliver :)
This guy’s regular voice covers a low vocal fry to a falsetto
Hahaha, thanks.... Cheers from Oliver
Im very far of this level🤭
Thanks!
Thank you so much for your generous voluntary “super thanks” donation - you help keep me going for sure!!! I'm very grateful :) :) :) Best regards from Oliver
