Koopman is a legendary interpreter of Bach's music who is not afraid to put his own interpretation on the maestros music.

I have the same cantata out there! After listening to faster versions I'm not sure what to think. I believe in the Baroque era timing was more steady and not as fast, but not super slow either. I love all versions because I love Bach! Thank you.

Thank you for uploading this vibrant Koopman rendition. I had only ever heard Richter and Leonhardt. I appreciate this. BRIAN

the alto aria here is reminiscent of the alto aria in BWV 42.

    Gelobet sei der Herr,
    Praised be the Lord,
Mein Gott, mein Licht, mein Leben,
my God, my light, my life,
    Mein Schöpfer, der mir hat
my creator, who has given to me
    Mein Leib und Seel gegeben,
    my body and soul,
    Mein Vater, der mich schützt
    my father, who protects me
    Von Mutterleibe an,
    from my mother's womb,
    Der alle Augenblick
    who at every moment
    Viel Guts an mir getan.
has done much good for me.
    2 Aria [Bass]
    Continuo
    Gelobet sei der Herr,
    Praised be the Lord,
Mein Gott, mein Heil, mein Leben,
my God, my salvation, my life,
    Des Vaters liebster Sohn,
    the Father's dearest son
    Der sich für mich gegeben,
    who gave himself for me,
    Der mich erlöset hat
    who has redeemed me
    Mit seinem teuren Blut,
    with his precious blood,
    Der mir im Glauben schenkt
who in faith bestows on me
    Sich selbst, das höchste Gut.
his very self, the greatest good.
    3 Aria [Soprano]

    Gelobet sei der Herr,
    Praised be the Lord,
Mein Gott, mein Trost, mein Leben,
my God, my consolation, my life,
    Des Vaters werter Geist,
    the Father's worthy spirit,
    Den mir der Sohn gegeben,
whom his son gave to me,
    Der mir mein Herz erquickt,
    who quickens my heart,
    Der mir gibt neue Kraft,
    who gives me new strength,
    Der mir in aller Not
    who in all my need
    Rat, Trost und Hülfe schafft.
    provides counsel, comfort and help.
    4 Aria [Alto]

    Gelobet sei der Herr,
    Praised be the Lord
    Mein Gott, der ewig lebet,
my God who lives for ever
    Den alles lobet, was
    In allen Lüften schwebet;
    whom all things praise that soar in all the breezes;
    Gelobet sei der Herr,
    praised be the Lord
    Des Name heilig heißt,
    whose name is called holy,
    Gott Vater, Gott der Sohn
God the Father, God the Son
    Und Gott der Heilge Geist.
    and God the Holy Spirit.

    To him we now "Holy"
    Mit Freuden lassen klingen
    with joy make resound
    Und mit der Engel Schar
    and with the angelic host
    Das Heilig, Heilig singen,
    sing "Holy, holy",
    Den herzlich lobt und preist
who is sincerely praised and glorified
    Die ganze Christenheit:
    by all of Christendom:
    Gelobet sei mein Gott
    praised be my God
    In alle Ewigkeit!
    in all eternity.

I love Ton Koopman. And Bach, of course.
And Ton is NOT the "Bach slaughterer", as someone called him below. (Though, that is pretty clever nickname. Sounds like a name Donald Trump would call him on Twitter,,,,,,,,,,,,,presuming Trump had ever heard of JSB, which I seriously doubt.)
Still, the opening chorale is a bit too fast, in my opinion. I'm sure Ton had a good reason for his tempo. I'd love to hear it.

Love the cantata, but the opening choral sounds like half of the orchestra was desperate to catch a train. I like Karl Richter and the Münchener Bach Chor's version much better.
