+ERA CASTE you need to get lighter and darker touch around your face to break up your facial pattern, making your face harder to recognize
so you need to put darker paint to the outer areas of the face and lighter paint around eyes, nose, temples, and lower lip to obscure the lighter areas of your face
that's for black camo different camos requires different applications

At 15:46 I just realized, when I was trying that mask, it was still during the Virtuous Mission, that's quite the start of the game, so Snake had both eyes and so did the mask, Sigint even said, that he made it up so it could blink. But here, Snake's already tortured, lost his eye and the mask has one eye permanently closed, man what a detail.
Right? Just Kojima to do that. Death Stranding is full of insane attention to details as well.
I mean, it would have been quite a slip up to allow the player to go "wait, i have two eyes again now?!"

@@GunsNGames1 Doubt it. There's a codec call where Sigint talks about how nobody would bother hiring him because he's black, and how the Major was the first person to give him a real chance. So it's an issue that at least gets brought up and denounced in game.

MGS2) Don't get me wrong, I love both Snakes to death, but I feel that with Kojima gone, and all important stories involving them exhausted, it'd be refreshing to see the stories of other characters in the same universe

As a fun note, some of the downloaded/"UNLOCKED" camouflages actually have, or by the HD version possibly had, effects. The Grenade pattern made grenades infinite, Mummy prevented you from sustaining injuries, and I believe Santa prevented your stamina from draining over time.

I have never been able to confirm nor deny that because colds are almost impossible to catch

First playthrough of MGS3 I had Oyama on fighting the boss because of it's effect in white areas being better than snow. The Ocelot scene in the plane after was a hell of a lot less serious because of that.
Any white Face paint is effective against The Boss like Oyama, Kabuki, Japan, even Zombie....

I never understood why going with less clothing drained your stamina faster. I think it would be a good risk/reward camo: Less stealth and protection for more stamina and speed.
You would be burning more stamina trying to deal with the elements. That's one of the reasons we wear clothing because humans don't have thick furry hides like most animals

Ah, the memories. I remember you could download special camouflages and face paints by connecting the PS2 to the internet. I had a slim PS2 that had the Ethernet port built-in and I was able to download them. The thing was, it would take half of my Memory Card, so I didn’t keep them for too long.

The amount of detail.. and the amount of time and effort put into this game.. it's why it's one of my favorite games of all time on any system.
In the first mission, there was one point where I dressed Snake in the Leaf camo and Italy face paint. I had 90% camo.

The "BLACK" option for the face paint will surely help with the black camouflage, as it works particularly well in dark areas where the shadows should conceal you nicely. It has absolutely nothing to do with the police, as Metal Gear is particularly about war and the military forces around the world.
Keep in mind, the context in which the word black is used here is to refer to shadows.
