While my last video about starlink was a great introduction to using Starlink Internet for Vanlife Gaming, I ended up leaving out a lot of great info because I didn't want to make the video too long. So I decided to make a new video to address some things you should know about starlink before incorporating it into you Vanlife/Offgrid Gaming setup! - TTTHEFINEPRINTTT
In this video I talk about Starlinks power consumption, mounting options, and even test out the Ethernet adaptor to see if it's worth the investment.

I dont think it can cool down deez nutz.

I am gonna tell, you if enough people mention lack of Ethernet connection Elon will make it happen.
@@eliteecho9383 there’s not a lack of an Ethernet connection.
If you ever feel like it, I would love to see how rocket league handles.
Having 60 ping in the mountains is so mindblowing!!! You have to remember where he is! This is the FUTURE!!!
Can’t handle congestion. It’s ass
@@Virt7_ yea I hate when I’m congested. Hopefully you feel better soon!
@@ChristianScholfield what lmao. I’m talking about Starlink bro. It’s shit
Nah! Youre talking about best scenarios. For (PVE) MMORPGs or coop games, its ok, but for competitive shooters or other types of fast paced online games, it sucks big time, BUT, is it possible to have fun? Yes, even more if youre not that type of player who gets angry if not win every single match.
He’s out in the open and high up. It should be better then usuall
Always do a reboot from within the Starlink App on the wifi and the router once a day. That will dramatically help with speeds... Also put the dish into stow mode and then hit un stow once a day and that will also force to dish to find a more preferred satellite which helps the speeds big time. I am in a waitlist area with the RV version and my speeds are always up near 70-100Mb download. Get 2-3 mesh units as well.... Huge difference !! AWESOME!!!
Good to know. Hope to get one someday.
why would he need mesh for vanlife?
Sounds like a product not ready for launch for its cost ?
I'm planning to get a 5th wheel/travel trailer to live in full time and game hard core. You're living in an RV?
@@MyKharli sounds like if you’re in the mountains you can read a book if you’re worried about the cost of high speed, high bandwidth internet??? Where else you gonna get reliable internet in these areas for cheaper 😂
Awesome content, I just found your channel this month and ive been binge watching all your content. Keep up the hard work, its clear you put in tons of times into each video ! (edit: Congrats on 200k!!)
Trent!! 200k subs dude, that’s incredible. I’ve watched literally every single one of your videos since I found you two years ago and I will continue to do that until the heat death of the universe. Take a second to think about how many people that is. I live in London near the biggest stadium in the UK and your audience could fill it more than twice!! Happy for you man.
Also, cool video 🙂
Trent! Loved the video man, I appreciate when you go into the finer details of how you game/stream in your van. Starlink is definitely a must cop for me and I’m hyped to get it later down the line. This video was well worth the wait! I’m excited for what’s to come. Thanks for being you! See you on twitch, sincerely CC107.
Your videos are something I really look forward to! You’re the man and I love your content!!!
Nice man, really loving to see this new world of gaming and vanlife, keep up with the good work!!
Another great video. LOVE your van life, game life setup and your videos are so informative and amusing as well :) Amazed you are getting those speeds in remote mountains. Can't wait for next video and I've been checking you out on Twitch and hopping in Discord. Safe Travels and Safe Gaming :)
I found your channel two days ago and have almost watched all your UA-cam videos! They're really relaxing and provide comfort after a long day of coding. Please feature your dog more in your videos, it makes me happy to see people care so much for their pets. Greetings from Serbia, and keep up the good work. I hope you reach 1 million subscribers someday. :)
i seen your van in a couple channel videos and im glad i JUST found your channel. at 38 im trying to figure out what and where for the future me and i been into the idea of vanning / overlanding for several years. and one of the biggest things as a introvert i didnt want to give up, was my online gaming. i havnt even watched this video yet but i know the pool of mobile gamer setups like this is kinda rare and you inspire me. i havnt even watched this video yet but ive seen your build and im so impressed, insta-sub to you before i watch any of your own content.
Congrats on 200k, love your vids!❤️
Hey man!! Thank you!!!
I love your videos Trent! best way to start my morning wake and bake 💚
Loved the timing of Millie popping out from under the van ❤️
I am fixing to live in a camper for about a year or 2 and save money for a house, your videos have been mad informative and earned a sub from me!
love how often you upload dude thanks for the vids 🤘
So refreshing to see you are the same old Trent, So proud of you my friend keep up all the amazing things you are doing and all of the happiness you bring to this world Congrats on 200k
I really appreciate this comment
Yesss! Perfect vid to watch during lunch 😎
Not gonna lie you have totally made me put an investment into van building. I already bought a couple of solar panels. It's not a lot, but it's a start! One less thing to have to worry about. The only thing that I am not very good with is electrical. Never done it before, so I think it's going to be a challenge for me.
I’ll be getting mine in 2 weeks! I’m excited!
Awesome as always dude, keep it up!
great video, you're possibly the only person that ever talked about the wattage of starlink, even on Facebook pages they talk about "its not bad" lol, as if there's a specific number for "it's not bad".
Keep them coming. Love your videos .
why am I enjoying these videos.. Damn keep up the good work!
My guy I have to say I’m so jelly of your life. I do have a family that I love greatly so van life is outta my spectrum. How ever I live in a rule area and internet is garbage and my dude U have inspired me to take the dive in the next few months I will own star link I am so hyped for the future. Also I have to say I love the content and the vibrancy u bring to your videos. I watch the new ones as soon as they come out keep it up
Later this year I'm moving to Tennessee from Florida, I'm 17 and when my family moves I'm going to buy and convert a van, your videos have been a major source of my education and inspiration, hopefully this goes well for me. Either way I will continue to enjoy your fantastic content! (Btw love your hair
That's super exciting to hear man and I hope it goes well! Keep us updated on the build progress. If you ever have any questions, we have a Vanlife channel in my discord where you reach out and me or any of the other awesome members will help you/guide you along the way the best we can.
@@TrentTheTraveler awesome! I'll join when I get off work :D
Another great vid my dude!
That intro tho... The timing with the sneeze was a great touch!
You are such a massive inspiration too me. You are living my dream.
Really cool to see this technology and I am sure it will get even better!
Love the vids my man keep it up
Thank you, love your content!
Dude you basically have a spaceship at this point. That thing is awesome 👌
Take note that starlink was still on its early stage and the amount of satelite that have been launched was around 50+% , thats why its kinda normal to experience a sudden spike .
Yeah! Thats true!
Starlink 2.0 will make the biggest difference, sadly we will have to wait for Starship to fly before these are in orbit as 2.0 is to wide for Falcon 9 fairing (current launch vehicle)
The plan is to hit 50% of the Starlinks late 2024, so there is a ton more to be launches and will help with spikes.
Currently there is around 2500 active sats with 400 000 subscribers around the world.
@@RippanCSGO what's StarLink 2.0? Laser satellites? We have those in Alaska's orbit right now, StarLink just became available here and I'm pretty sure we're the first users depending solely on laser satellites
Really good quality vid once again! Well done Trent also btw what was the music u used for the cinematic the beat is crazy!
Keep it up brother - Love the content
Congratulations on the success man! You’re channel is killing it! Well done. Hey, now that you’re using Starlink, are you using other options for cell coverage as well still?
is doing iT!
Nice to see this precise info..
Thank you for the content. Not going to lie, you have convinced me to finally do what I wanted to do ten years ago. Now, we have the knowledge and technology for me to be out on the road while still being able to work!
Yessss mah man, much love. I had so many questions but I was like nah he's not dumb, I'll just wait. GG
Rebooting Starlink from the app sometimes help with ping and ping spikes! Great video man I play all the time and get from 30ms at the lowest 50-60 average and when highly congested 100-125. Loving my Starlink so far!
Ooooo Thats a pretty good tip!
hey man I am a competitive player for games like csgo, valorant, tf2. You know, the games where ping basically determines every single fight. I have the time to play for most hours of the day and or night, how often is the spikes? And when you say you get 50-60 ping average, is that across the board? No matter where you put it, it will always average around there?
dudes living, big fan
Thanks for sharing this info! I'm thinking of doing bus or RV life in the next year or so as I'm an artist who does both freelance, and full time work for studios, and If I was to continue working, I need decent uploading capabilities as sometimes my files for clients can get quite large. +Plus I gotta get in my Mariokart and Splatoon fix while on the road lol.
Love the introduction part with your gentle sneezing sound... 😂😂👌❤❤
Just found this channel and am stoked to see another full timer who's gaming on the road! I've been full time in an RV for a year and have been considering moving to starlink for a while but have some hesitations. Typically I am in cities for about a month or so and then out at national parks/off grid for a couple months then back to a city for a while. I was wondering how your experience has been anytime you are nearby cities? I have heard a lot of bad things about portability mode not performing well or having no connection when near cities because of lack of availability
Full time 3 years and i game on the road too. Just ordered starlink but pretty happy with T-Mobile hotspot too.
Most important thing to remember... With RV version you can pause service while in the city and enable service in the wild. We use a combo of hotspot and Starlink. One service alone will not meet your requirements.
Absolutely love this channel. My wife and I are thinking of living the van life and selling our home. Daunting, but definitely worth it.
Seeing you can continue to game in one is a huge plus 😊 I would need to sell my pc and switch to a laptop, but they are also awesome nowadays.
Out of interest, what is the spec of your laptop and what monitor are you using?
He’s running a smaller PC tower not a Laptop, but Laptops might even be more power efficient as they have their own battery supply? I don’t use Gaming Laptops so I’m not familiar with the power consumption of the higher end.
Thanks for the info! I'm surprised with the wattage draw on Starlink considering what it's doing. That's great. My Ultrawide 34" monitor only draws 24w and my gaming pc will draw up to 350w while gaming. My 2600w/1075Wh 'grid down' solar power system can manage that easily. I get frequent power outages where I live, sometimes lasting for over 24 hours, and I want to continue to work and game while keeping the essentials up and running.
awesome man!!
Van life with that internet is awesome 😍
Having pitbull for safety
In nature with peace this is a freaking awesome life
Evapolars are amazing! I don't know what I'd do without it ever since I got a couple. Well worth it for the heat in dry climates.
do you have to deal with mold because of the added moisture?
I’m a trucker and a gamer, this is gonna be big for guys like me.
I mostly play moba and mmos so this ping and speed is super way acceptable for my gaming needs! damn cant wait for this type of starlink to become available in my area.
The FCC just approved StarLink to allow use in a moving car. This will be able to work while on the move which sounds like a great concept.....actual real world experience we will have to wait and see.
I have a tiny home up in Idaho and will be installing Starlink in a few weeks! Can’t wait! There is NO cell reception up there
Love watching your videos bro would love to buy a van and do a set up
totally awsome!!!
hello trent! i have the pivot mount on my van. i do not store the antenna up there while driving however. i have a rack inside the van for it. i wanted the antenna to be mounted on something bolted on, instead of the 4 legged stand. it always seems i'm in some high wind areas. at least now i can leave in the pivot mount on top of the van during high winds.
you have a cool rig, enjoy!
Here from Ellie-interview 😊. Subbed. All the best from Norway 🙏😊
Hey man. You're awesome.
Apple goes proprietary for profit. Some companies use their own design to enforce reliability. Starlink products are quality products. If someone places some cheaply made part in the mix, Starlink would be blamed for the network issues. Keep it simple. Keep it Starlink. Interesting video watching you be you. Good job.
This gonna a blow
I love dis guy so much :) -ToastyPoptart
Toastypoptart
great info...a bit pricey for me but maybe someday ill be able to use starlink on the road. btw your sound quality is pretty good on your streams, do you use a lav mic or is there some other method you use?
Make sure you use a dehumidifier if you run a swamp cooler often in a small space like this
It's getting better - constantly around 300 down and 35 up now with 27 ping in the UK
Oof
i'd say to the flagpole but also have a base you can put it on if you need to move it farther away because of obstructions.
I am highly considering purchasing a van, building a setup, and then traveling and creating gaming and other videos. As that’s already my fulltime job and especially since I play Mobile games, this seems perfect. Would love to know how starlink is nowadays and how streaming is!
Pipe adapter is really cool one, using the same but not in VAN :)
I love your videos man, but I have two questions, could you fit two people in your van? Would you like a larger van and why? Cheers from Australia bro!
It’s so cool
I would love to watch your livestream but it’s usually 5am in Ireland when you livestream 😂
Wanted to ask what your stream settings are? Was watching some of your stream clips and your stream looks awesome! For some reason even being wired up I get almost 5000-10000 dropped frames on just 720p30fps and it only being a 2-3 hour stream
I have AT&T home internet and it is the SLOWEST I always use cellular but we are getting starlink so I am happy
I have a question!! When you were doing the test. Are you in a spot where starlink is available according to the Starlink map??
No WiFi can beat the stability and reliability of a wired connection.
Spikes are definitely the switching of sats which you are correct in saying that that will be minimized significantly when the constellation is complete.
Love from South Africa
Were you self taught when modeling/constructing your van? And are energy dishes/batteries easier to set up than it sounds or do you have a background in electrician?
your a legendddddddddddddddddd
Nice video, the ocasional ping spikes wouldn't be much of a problem I would feel, but I noticed some packet loss here and there and that is the thing I am afraid off, I would like to know how is streaming and gaming online off of Starlink
Awesome night🌃 for me
Awesome video! Now if you could just head over to Washington and help me install my solar panels... That would be great lol
if the wifi is slower, your PC adapter is crap. But what you should be thinking about more is that if you turn the wifi function off on the router and just use it with ethernet, you could save power and NOT advertise your vans not just a van in urban environments. Those two points I would think matter more as your phone can just run off Cel most of the time.
You could also make your wifi invisible in the router settings. Your devices that are already connected will still find it but everyone else but wifi snoops will not see it. enjoy your content.
Never expected ping to be perfect but the fact that there isn't any packet loss is crazy.
there was definitely some packet loss in that video as he showed from the test on fortnite but it certainly wasn't game breaking that's for sure!
Let's go;!!!
You should make more vanlife cooking videos!
They are on the way!
Do the pole but add quick release to move away from van if needed
Could we get another speed test to see if it has gotten better? (Even though it's already amazing)
You should of tested the Power Wattage while using it in game.
Did you test the power usage when you are maxing out the connection because I saw reports of over 100w for starlink?
For those who are truly off grid that is a big deal in winter even for me with a solar set up 3x the size of yours, sure my battery set up could do it for a night or 2 but after that its off to a power point somewhere to charge like yourself.
Starlink will pull more power in winter when it turns on the heater to melt snow and ice. I
Might be something to consider when running it innthe winter.
Thinking about going with starlink for my van too. I like the idea of having it on a flag pole to extend it but worry that it would catch too much wind on the highway to keep it mounted full time. Any thoughts?
My area gets gusts of 100+ mph winds regularly during the winter and our dishes stay securely mounted. You should be fine
Interesting thats similar to my ping in starlink on 5g wifi. Was your gaming session done on wifi or ethernet adapter after the speed test ?
Hey use Neodymium Magnets to attach it temporarily to the van, I know that wind can be a pain in the booty.
Speeds jump cause of satellite movement yes. But your speeds are way good for any application that you can do and boatloads better than the other options that are available to you for what you are doing. Can't complain only 1/3 of them are up atm and V2 is limited.
Please do a test while it's raining...
that's interesting I read multiple threads where people said it's 110-120W and was already planning on a massive battery on 24v. If this is accurate i might just go for the 12v battery and save me a big chunk of money.
You've got better internet going to your van then i have going to my house 😀
there are 12v mods people have done if you look it up.
you should go to a crowded city and redo the test... I would be curious about the wifi soup issue there for Starlink...
60-70 ping as long as it's stable is just fine. In LATAM we play at 100+ ms, if we get 70-90, that's considered really good
