Mike has managed to make me feel like family when watching his content
If you own sticks then you are FAMILY! 🍵🙏🍵🙏
@@mikeslessons you legend thanks for the reply
I just hope his wife isn’t mad at him for buying another snare.
@@mikeslessons Couldn't agree more. I am so inspired by you Mike.
"You can never have enough snares" Another great Mike Johnston Quote! 💪😁
It's like: - How many guitars does a guitar player need?
- One more.
Excellent video... p.s guys, don't skip the adverts... This free content is worth the 20 second adverts... one of the few youtubers I make sure to let the adverts roll and give some adsense money
Love the Dog......love the Porsche.....love the Studio.......i guess you can make a living playing Drums. Well Done !!!
The production value on this vlog style videos is so good!!!
Much appreciated my friend!
Thanks Mike - the vlogs are awesome! I've just started teaching drums at an NGO in a rural South African village where we're slowly piecing together second-hand kits for teacher and students. I take inspiration from your passion for teaching and for the incredible pieces in your collections. Please keep feeding our dreams with this wonderful content!
That was really fun to watch! Thank you 😀
Phenomenal set up. Well deserved, congrats!
Loved this video!! Awesome seeing the studio and all the behind the scenes action spots !! Very happy for you and all hard work and success!! You deserve it Mike !! All the best !!
WOw nice gear! That is a proper studio!!! 😉 thanks Mike
So nice to see your studio and all your snare drums. Also so nice to see that you play without mics on your drumset.
I also play Gretsch and the only sound I can compare my set to, is yours. All other drummers on UA-cam has got mics? So thank you!
You have such good sound.
I try so hard to copy. All the best, Mike.
Those heads also look brand new because Aquarian's texture coating is friggin top notch and doesn't chip like crazy. It'll grab stick marks, but that coating ain't flying off.
I agree with you 100% on that one my friend!
@@mikeslessons Been using them over 20 years now. I actually had a TC14 some years ago that the coating chipped off fairly quickly. They stand behind that coating and I even called them to let them know of my problem. They lady who answered transferred me and low and behold, Roy Burns himself answered. Said he didn't like hearing of problems second-hand and wants to fix it. Dude sent me a complete set of heads for my kit. Not just the snare head!
Great fun! Thanks for the tour.
Awesome studio, Mike. Love the colours and style, my friend. One day I hope to come to camp and see it in person.
"Mike your studio and its content are overwhelming", very great cinema !!! Respect !!!
Drums paradise, aaaaa eeeee!
Thanks for more great content as always. Please consider doing a breakdown/critique of the festival performance - would love to see you do some “reaction-style” videos to some of your performances and talk about where you were in your playing journey then and how you might approach the same thing now.
Thank you Mike. Most enjoyable. Always positive and inspiring. I hope to one day drive up from SoCal and attend one of your camps when the world returns to a more normal state. Stay safe.
Seeing the studio makes me miss your drum camps even more! Can't wait to get back to them they are life changing!
Merry Christmas Mike… Hey treated myself to a Gretsch Silver Hammered Brass 6.5x14. Just had a birthday 11-17, celebrated my 52yrs.playing drums. Mike I’ve never in my life owned a hammered brass snare. What freaking beast brother…
Thanks for another awesome video Mike! You make drumming fun and inspiring! 🥁❤
I remember meeting you at woodstick years ago. I give you mad props for what you have achieved since then! I have learned a lot from watching your videos and look forward to more! 🤘
What's extraordinary in this video is the great meticulous care and thought that went into organizing your drumming life for your students and for yourself. I'm simply blown away at how everything looks so professional, fresh and inviting. Respect! Oh...and you're an awsome drummer and educator! Cheers from Montréal, Mike!
Awe man... that means the world to me. Thank you so so much Rafik!
@@mikeslessons heartfelt bud..heartfelt! Cheers!
Great shout-out for Reset! I am Founder #48!
AWESOME!!! Such a great example of how small businesses should be run. Great people, great products, and GREAT care for their customers.
Thanks SO MUCH for the tour of the studio! Seeing what is new and what has changed brought back a flood of emotions and memories from some of the most amazingly frustrating weeks I've ever experienced! I'll have to light a "volcano" candle and watch it again. Can't wait to hang out there again! See you soon!
I took lessons in the early 80's from a guy named Joe Santoro, he teaches in Milpitas. His studio was a closet compared to this. It is good to see a teacher get a really good facility.
I'm jelly of that Buddy door. Friggin badass.
Another great video. Im so jealous of your studio. You have done a great job creating an amazing and inspiring space. Well done.
Wow, Mike! What a beautiful studio!
Your videos and content are awesome and inspiring. What a great job you've done! 'Love, love, love the 'cymbal boxes' in the hall of your studio, for accessibility - great idea!
I have been able to learn from your channel and applied it to my UA-cam channel; however..... I'm light-years away from the quality of this channel. #excellent!
So cool. Thanks for sharing and thanks for the inspiration.
What a collection! And wow your studio is sooo neat and organized! Loved seeing and hearing all those snares 👏🏻
Awesome snare collection! Check out Philly Drum Company when you get a moment. They do nothing but hand crafted stave snares and kits plus, plant 2-7 trees for each drum they sell. Really great company from my hometown.
🤣 I looked at the snare in that clip, like "🤔 was it originally black, then he......rewrapped it to later match the kit.....?"
Appreciate the snare tour, and that's a sweet studio. That painting might be my favorite part, simply for the medium and materials alone 😂
I'd always been an iced tea drinker, and hot tea in winter, then for some reason I got the bright idea to quit tea last year ( 😱 if you know, you know 🤣🤭 ), but I'm back with a vengeance 😂 Mostly Kenyan black, Oolong, English Breakfast, regular black, regular green, and some random stuff from a sampler I got for Christmas. Maybe I'll give that matcha green a shot.
“Billy-Bob hand down.” This tour was awesome Mike!
Love the way you let us enter to your house and always share to us important information in an amazing quality video. 🙏
Love your "Kingdom". Thanks for sharing.
So, what a really lovely Drum OCD you got brother Mike! :-)
Loved the tuning on the Sugar Percussion.
Thanks for the video Mike.
-Sam
Wow! Amazing video Mike. Thanks for sharing and I can't wait to make it out for camp someday soon!! Corey
Thoroughly enjoyable tour of your amazing facility and snare collection, Mike!
I gotta say, I don't think I've ever seen the multi cam setup in a car vlog haha. Great stuff! I feel like that subtle detail shows a bit about your character and willingness to go the extra mile at a time where you really didn't have to. Camera skills on point!
I was fully prepared to type up about using the wrong snare and you beat me to it 😄
LOL!!!
To see where you started and where you are today makes my heart feel good. I've always enjoyed watching the success of others especially when it involves helping people obtain their goals. Your studio represents how much you actually care for you students and that they get the best tools possible for their success! Mikes lessons is second to NONE! NOW, if you need me to test out any of those snares just send them my way! ;-)
Never been to camp, but I live about half an hour away from your studio, and I was able to visit in mid 2019 when you spoke at that event in the same building as your studio, talking about local and online business. You gave a lot of really good tips and advice during that, and visiting your studio was truly an unforgettable experience
Man, sorry that ADT didn’t work out. Let’s kick this covid thing and get on w some drum hangs n gigs etc!! All the best. This vid is drool city:)
Man, just watched this and I swear could SMELL the candles studio 😂 Beamed me right back to teacher camp. What an amazing time this was. I will never forget the great vibes and the invaluable lesson you taught us, Mike. Hope to come back one day. All the best from Germany!
What an amazing studio. Inspiring place to work
Love it dude!! I'm only into the video as far as the tea room hehe. Your studio is unreal!! Back to the video
I was just sitting down to practice, and this pops up.. LOL. Guess it's time to bust out the pad and get 21 minutes of hand speed exercise in!
LOL! So sorry for it being so long. I just wanted to put everything in :)
You could have made it much longer. I can use the practice!
Love the shout out to Old Folsom! Beautiful area and that studio is slick! Great to see a local content creator as Norcal doesn't get too much love.
Loved that last LUDWIG…👍🏿
Now I have a goal!!! great studio, awesome gear...sick car haha
Lol that vid edit was perfectly timed .. the performance was 🔥🔥 but my eye went right to the wrong snare .. i was all like " waiiiiiiiit a second " 👀... pretty neat look inside tbe beautiful studio and set up ya have goin there and mad props to the wifey keepin the video tech stuffs on point!! 🤘
Eddy on your ride 🤣🤣 who are the rest of the signatures?!
Also, that old festival clip: that was a sick clip and you’ve come such a long way on your drumming journey since then!
Think we need more of these... I moonlight a lot in the UA-cam guitar-o-sphere for this type of content... (thinking of Rhett Shull's channel particularly). Think it helps the UA-cam drum-o-sphere... feels like most of our community on UA-cam is very lesson based... really like the more gig vlog, behind the scenes, documentary stuff... especially for community building on this platform!
you know, I was thinking some more about my comment... I do want to tip my hat to some creators that I think are also contributing to the youtube drum community in a way I was describing... looking at you David Cola, Harry Mirree, and RDavidR...! (Although I think David and Harry have gotten busy gigging post Covid. This is all to say - love Mike's Vlog series... would love to see more (although, I do have an idea of how much work they take!)
Awesome car, Mike
I live my car, but it’s nothing compared to that 1929 Ludwig at the end of the video! lol.
Years worth of work and dedication!
I'd love to come to your studio.. It looks incredible..and those snares 😍
Come on by :)
That was SO cool! Thank you for sharing. I can’t get over all those cymbals
Dude, mad respect for the neatness! Jk, but the place is so sweet. Major inspiration.
You are such an incredible inspiration to me and definitely a “drum hero” of mine. Thank you so much for all the time energy and knowledge you share 🙏🏻
dude i live in antelope outside of sacramento. my wife and kids go to the johnny cash trail all the time…cant believe you are there. been a fan for a long time.
Love the VLOGs. More please!
Beautiful studio 😍
Awe bud, I could watch thrse vlogs for hours ☺️
Damn getting the full hair comb on that festival clip, killing it dude! Can't belive your signature snare has been around for 2 years already, remember how blessed I felt to play it at 21 drums 2k19 before it was released to the public. I'll be seeing you at the next UK drum show to see a double bobby hopefully. Hope you're doing well man, thanks for the constant inspiration! Love from England.
Amazing studio!
That was awsome Mike!
Heaven.
Your studio looks so cool Mike! I really hope I can visit it one day, thanks for sharing! :)
I hope so as well IIias! I will happily make you a matcha :) 🍵🍵🍵
@@mikeslessons hehe That would be great! I'll definitely bring some Greek mountain tea over too! :D
You really are an exceptional teacher Mike!
That '29 luddy sounds soooo goood!
Ya man, she's such a classic. The fact that she still works flawlessly and plays like a dream, serious testament to Ludwigs from that era.
This is another video where I could happily watch a 2-3hr version where you run through all of your snares! (Also your studio is so tidy, where are the boxes filled with tangled cables? 😂)
Much appreciated my man. I have one spare cable of each type (HDMI, Instrument, Mic, USB-3, etc) tuck away nicely in one of the white cabinets in the podcast room :)
Not a very practical gigging car..lol
Loved this video Mike- Amazing facility.
Agreed 1000%! LOL. That's why I have "Little Biscuit" (BMW i3) basically a toaster on wheels for drums and for Juneau. lol. So glad you enjoyed the tour
I’ve seen Varsity Blues..........multiple times 😬
Mike Johnston.. You've inspired me since the early 2000's when I first discovered your UA-cam videos. I can proudly say I was in the first class of Mike Johnston students when you debuted Mikeslessons.com back in May of 2007. I remember being ecstatic about it. I was waiting for you to bust out the (Shine) Mike Johnston signature snare that I believe was manufactured around 2009 or so. I'm wondering if that was the snare you were playing in the clip that you showed us in this video? In any event.. it seems crazy it was at least 15 years ago I discovered you on UA-cam, and you continue to amaze me. You kick ass.
JUNO! Good to see you girl. How are ya? Love snares huh? 😁❤ head scracth and pat, hug***
Once again, I'm speechless. Great video and the thing that pisses me off is this covid that prevents me to travel! I miss my twice-a-year-trips to L.A...... Well greetings from Helsinki, Finland and maybe some day I can enroll your student program and see the awesome studio with my own eyes!
Awesome studio! So cool! :)
Man, your studio is amazing!!! Also, how do you choose the snare that you're gonna play depending on the music? Do you know exactly how they all sound? Or do you usually play the same one in most recordings?
Vulf on the lobby TV, nice touch
I low-key feel embarrassed it took me 7hrs to finally watch this. Its been a busy Saturday morning 😃
i LOVE the vlogs.
Haha, I wondered where all the reflexx pads were in the world! They're in your studio haha 😂
Bad call on my part for showing that. That's like showing 20 bottles of hand sanitizer during the first month of quarantine, LOL 😂😂
@@mikeslessons I know, literally can't get them anywhere! They're are rare as hen's teeth! Great video though (once I got past pad envy haha!) thanks for showing us around the studio and the snares. Really enjoyed it. It's really great to hear different drums that not everyone will be able to get access to.
That Buddy Rich artwork is amazing, what would one similar to that set you back wallet wise? Love your vids Mike
Hey Mike, one of those lenses looked like an old Canon FD SLR lens. Which model is it and what are you adapting to? RF? I know the flange distance can cause issues on EF mount. Cheers!
Magic eraser makes the drum heads look new again. Try it you will love it.
Not sure how to message you but what was that lesson you did on rll, bass ll..ect, it was developing the left hand and spliting between hands and foot. Thanks
Great vid total pro
imagining mike giving me one of his snare haha!
That’s a cool studio Mike . Now I know why reflexx pads are out of stock !! LoL :-)
Your place is literally the dream Mike.
I think it's time you get your ARSE over here buddy. Miss ya dude
@@mikeslessons Do you provide childcare options 😂Miss you too dude!
That mic shelf got me anxious haha. Feels like if something bumps into it all mics go straight down
All of it was super nice. But you top it off by Being a cyclist and one of the Number brands I sold when I lived in SF!!!!!!!
Awe man, I LOVE that thing. It was also the design inspiration for all the matte black shiplap.
@@mikeslessons Wicked. Hope you make it to Australia someday. But I am a San Francisco Native for life. Stay Safe Cheers.
Is there a video going over your acoustic treatment within your studio? Would love to know about your setup and sound paneling.
There isn't but I got it on the cheap from a company called Foam Factory Direct. It really just helps calm the room down for when I'm teaching camps. Hope that helps :)
That's a wide-screen navigation system!!..What?!
I knew it : A man performs better with his wife next to him. Thanks to your wife Amber for all this fine footage. 👍🏾
Ps in the beginning of your vid, has your dog shrunk? Looked taller in previous vids 😬
What a gorgeous studio! Thank you very much for taking us on that tour!
Do you think the drum camps be available soon considering the vaccines becoming more prominent?
You are very welcome, and yes I hope to be able to start camps up near the end of the year.
@@mikeslessonsconsider my end of the year activities canceled 😂. Rescheduling is now in progress.
You are awesome man! :)
Thank you so much 🍵🍵🙏🙏
特别喜欢您,我在中国也打鼓,看您的视频受益匪浅,感谢🙏
Full 311! 😂
"This is not a dispensary". LOL
