I know it's not much, but I would horizontally invert the sprites of your towers depending on the enemy position, so it gives the illusion that they're facing them.
This looks really good can't wait for it to be finished this is definitely something I would buy! You probably already thought of this but even for less random and more choice based mechanics you could just reserve some word like "tower" as a command and then allow to choose a different type to spawn using this commands (i.e. tower ice). Maybe this could be like a separate mode though because I think what you have with making everything a random typing word rather than having something repetitive is good to keep the typing fresh and so it doesn't get too boring. Amazing job!
The game looks great! One suggestion that would make it more enticing to myself is for the terrain to be less busy looking. Theres already a lot of information on the screen, having busy looking grass and paths just adds to that and detracts from my ability to reliably scan the screen quickly. Anyways, the game looks fantastic and I cant wait to see it finished. Good luck, TanTan!
The game looks really fun to play !! I thinks it would greatly benefit from a graphic overhaul, it would not only lake the experience more pleasant but it would jelp A LOT with marketing. I feel like this game can turn out to be amazing, hope it will work well for you, best luck
I've started developing my own game too thx to your series on bevy bevy bevy. I love how minimalistic it is and how you don't have to learn about a whole freakass GUI just to start building your game. as a software engineer who knows only to use a hammer and doesn't want to pick up another tool it sure is nice.
I was a bit worried when you stopped posting videos for over a month without any notice - but if this is what kept you busy I'm going to call it time well spend! (Still looking forward to more videos, I love your style)
Looks cool. You can also implement typing in main menu, settings and when you want to quit the current game. For example in main menu if you want to start playing, type "play";
It's looking great! I really appreciate the level of detail you've put into this video. Seeing some of the code, how you've structured your content files - it makes the video both entertaining and educational. You've unlocked *Motivation*: You can finish this game! You've got this! Do it!
Very smart, Tantan! Congratulations on getting so far with your game, that's impressive. Have you found that moving configuration out of code has become restrictive because when you add a new feature, you need to manage all the config files to deal with it and the code to load it? If it's just you developing, why not have the config as static types in code? Does the game take a long time to build? Great to see you back with a new devlog, sir!
Typing games normally let you choose which keys you are practicing like letters only, letters and numbers, all keys, symbols only and so on. I think there should be a setting or an option when you start a run to pick this. Then it would actually let you practice typing.
When i saw the builder climbing a mountain i knew this game is bound to greatness. I mean it's basically Skyrim! "See that moutain over there? You can climb it."
Now that you can have the game play itself you should consider to implement some sort of demo system, you know, how when the player keeps the game idle on the title screen for a while the game would start playing a demo recording? Just with your game it can be the actual game playing by itself! I know, I know, amazing idea, you can pay me once the game sells a million copies.
Frankly, your progress is great. I don't think I've ever stuck with any project for that long. I wish you luck. Are you looking into other options besides Bevy? I don't think there's currently anything better in Rust, but I'm not sure I like their system. I'd prefer a little more freedom.
Tantan, I liked the Debug tool for autoplay, maybe you can adapt the tool in order to implement Deep Reinforcement Learning and create a Pro Player Agent, it could be on the TOP of Player's Ranking
Have you thought about how to balance the game for people of different typing skill? Honestly I avoid typing games because of the anxiety of typing against a timer. For shit players like me can i have an option to pause/slow down the game when there is typings prompts on the screen? It might be nice to play a relaxing and satisfying typing game for once :D
This is a cool typing tutor type application . There is probably a market for this type of educational game that feels more like a "real game" than an "educational game" if that makes sense .
I feel like the art doesnt go that well with the game, even if its crappy try drawing your art own and see how everything matches together, mid looking coherency is better than occasionally good art with different styles.
Ngl, this game is sick and the fact that you use rust and bevy is awesome. But if you were to actually create a game for the purpose of creating a game, I think this exact type of game is much more suited to a bigger game engine like godot or gamemaker. Still, that facts makes your project just more awesome
Will hou release a linux build? Since gou are programming on Linux after all. Also since rust is all statically linked, you shouldn't have any dll rot what some Linux ports siffer from.
I'm 20 seconds into the video but you definitely need to fix this variable pixel scaling across the scene. Consistent pixel scaling is key to success for pixel indie games
letsgooo Tantan this looks super sick!
ayy Dani!
It's dani
are you still alive after you commented this 7 mins ago
yo Dani will you release Karlson at some point? (or you cant do that)
Yoo at least post a video of staring at screen for 10 seconds saying milk in the end to show you are alive
I know it's not much, but I would horizontally invert the sprites of your towers depending on the enemy position, so it gives the illusion that they're facing them.
By it's not much do you mean how much of the video you watched? In the later parts of the video it looks like he's added horizontal sprite inversion.
@@FrostbytedigitalMaybe I missed it, care to post a time stamp?
Woah that's 34 days more than Randy!
ayy another Randal enjoyer
A brother
And he's gotten so much more done than Randy. Randy's "game" isn't even a game.
Randy xD
@JustSomeAussie1 Deutsche Qualität
This is great, good luck wrapping it up, really inspiring to watch your journey working on it!

Dude, this is really cool concept you made there!!!
This is such a fun idea! Back in college I made an RPG like earthbound where typing challenges powered up attacks in battles.
I was a bit worried when you stopped posting videos for over a month without any notice - but if this is what kept you busy I'm going to call it time well spend! (Still looking forward to more videos, I love your style)
I was excited to play this from the first time you mentioned it ngl.
this looks amazing. I really like the debug methods you took.
Looks cool. You can also implement typing in main menu, settings and when you want to quit the current game. For example in main menu if you want to start playing, type "play";

You've unlocked *Motivation*:
You can finish this game! You've got this! Do it!
You are not the first, there are some, but I still like what I see so far, keep it up tantan
Looks great!! The way the text squished and bounces is so satisfying hahaha
I really want to play it!!! Especially while I'm trying to learn a different layout
Your video has so much quality! Thanks for the content
This looks brilliant!
Really unique idea. I like it!
Actually, looks really great Tantan.
Very smart, Tantan! Congratulations on getting so far with your game, that's impressive.

Great to see you back with a new devlog, sir!
Dang this is epic, what a unique concept nice work!
Voxel game devlogs when!? I wanna see more!
Very cool to follow your progress
this such a sick game idea
great job!
Looks really cool!
The best part are the dcss sprites, it took me a second to remember where they're from
The singing at the end actually slaps! Oh and yeah, the game's cool too.
So when is the Patreon song releasing? I would pay for a 3 minute version
Looks good! From a designer perspective i was wondering if this is development art
feature idea: add a gold mine where you can mine for a small amount of gold by typing a very long word/phrase
congratulations
I love the idea
If you swap the dictionary for vim commands this could be a fun way to build muscle memory! Great project you’re an inspiration, keep it up!
Typing games normally let you choose which keys you are practicing like letters only, letters and numbers, all keys, symbols only and so on. I think there should be a setting or an option when you start a run to pick this. Then it would actually let you practice typing.
This is looking EPIC
Any updates on the steam page?
Super cool seeing a full, real, non-toy project being made in Bevy.
When i saw the builder climbing a mountain i knew this game is bound to greatness.
I mean it's basically Skyrim! "See that moutain over there? You can climb it."
As someone learning a new keyboard layout (canary), having an on-screen reference has been a killer feature of monkey type. Just a thought 😉
I'm waiting for the PvP mode, realy like PvP typing battles.
that game looks really cool, can't wait to try it out !
would be really funny to have a "developper" mode where it adds characters like ", {} []

I would not have been learning Rust for the last 1.5 years if it wasnt for Tantan
This looks really cool!
I have to ask, Have you heard of The Textorcist, And if so, Was it an inspiration behind the typing mechanic of this game?
Frankly, your progress is great. I don't think I've ever stuck with any project for that long. I wish you luck.
Are you looking into other options besides Bevy? I don't think there's currently anything better in Rust, but I'm not sure I like their system. I'd prefer a little more freedom.
Fyrox
What do you mean by "more freedom"?
macroquad for small games. ambient is a newer option. it was specifically designed for multiplayer games.
Really thought you would have to type north, south, or west on that overworld screen to move around
Sick dude
Bro that's my favorite genres
How do I wish list it on steam?
I like typing games, and I like tower defense games :)
How's the Posion damage type doing?
Link to the steam page pls?
Will the game be open sourced? Or perhaps modding/plugin support? I’d love to write coop support.
looks rad! do you already have an idea what min specs you wil need to run this game?
this is so good
No link bruh =( i will forget in like 15minutes =(. Anyways, game looks Pog, hope to play it eventually
Where and when can i buy it?
did you make the art yourself? looks amazing
The programmer art is strong with this one
Good video. I like.
If you ever make a sequel it should be called Typo Twoer.
Tantan, I liked the Debug tool for autoplay, maybe you can adapt the tool in order to implement Deep Reinforcement Learning and create a Pro Player Agent, it could be on the TOP of Player's Ranking
could be cool, I'm not gonna spend days to learn deep learning programming though :P
Where s the steam page?
wait, how have you tricked youtube to send notifications, correctly
Very cool but what hapend with the voxel engine? Like from Bulgaria
Amazing devlog! The only problem to me is that your debug tools are clickable instead of typeable.
I think a map editor would be great
reminded me of Taipo, another typing tower defense game made with Bevy/Rust, but you type Japanese instead.
steam link page?
I hope you will have version for macOS
release, release, release
I wonder if you write unit tests for this game? It must be another advantage of ECS.
not ready yet :)

a feature i would love is *customizable wordlist*.
yeeees

Name?

5:16 Don't know if you were just having fun with the spelling, but it's spelled 'Choice'.
9:33 posion dam type *poison
dayueem well that's 62 occurances I need to fix :P
would be cool if the towers you have unlocked would follow you on the map
I want to learn how to develop a video game😊
I'm 20 seconds into the video but you definitely need to fix this variable pixel scaling across the scene. Consistent pixel scaling is key to success for pixel indie games
It would be nice if the game would support different languages. Even if only through modding.
i want to play the gme
I want to play
very good. Make game
W
Yo, where the fuck is the steam page link? Don't tell me you gave up on this bad boy
Petition for tantan to start using letter J
E
:D
And you did all this, just because you don't know how to implement mouse interactions?
haha ouch. I have actually implemented mouse interactions, you just need to tap the text "buttons"
Second?
Third to say first
