  • In today’s video, I pull apart my old Hensim 6.5HP 196CC small block motor that I got off of a Baja Heat 65 fat tire minibike a while back. I then hone the cylinder, clean everything up and put the motor back together. Then I install some performance parts, get the motor running, and see if it can actually rev out to 6,500RPM with a stock cam/stock bottom end. This motor is an absolute beast to be a stock cam/stock bottom end and stock head motor!! So with that being said, we really hope you enjoy today's video!

    no way possible with a 196 stock bottom end stock cam and a chikuni 22 carburetor you making more than 9hp on best day. I just finished building a 196 for my friend, Tillotson 196rs crank, .356 cam, billet tappet lifters, gage 1.3 black venums, stage 4 head, +.020 rod, flat top piston, mikuni 24mm flat slide, billet flywheel with 34° total timing set to .035 spacing with the coil, and it makes about 17-18hp. put it on his doodlebug db30 with a max to 15t and 72t split sprocket, sun f road tires front and rear discs with go powersports front end swap.

      Even if I did nothing else except a carb, exhaust and Champion rockers I’d at least be at 10HP. Years ago a Champion 196CC motor was put on an engine dyno with a re-jetted stock carb, an open air filter, a pipe and a full governor delete. It made 10.5HP in the upper 4,000RPM range. This was more than an early Predator 212CC running the same test; same dyno, same mods, etc. These little 196’s are sleepers I’m telling ya

      @@JM.Performance Any stock Hisun/Honda clone flywheel revving to even high 4k RPMS is dangerous, the stock connecting rod has no bearings so you will ware the crankshaft and your connecting rod, not only is it cast aluminum, the oil dippers are prone to snapping because the stock cranks are very imbalanced and only balanced for 4k at most, a amazon carb will not be accurate or drilled to spec, I have done multiple 212 builds and i will tell you from experience, do not ever bypass/delete a governor, you will get hurt or explode a 3LB cast steel flywheel. also I don't know where you get your dyno runs at but it sounds like they need to be calibrated

    Great video and budget build! What jets on the VM22 did you end up with on the main and pilot?

      @JM.Performance  2 роки тому +3

      Thank you I really appreciate it!! It’s a VM26 with the same jets in it that it came with when I bought it. Since it’s such a big carb for a stock cam, stock bottom end 196 it was a little rich at first so all I did was move the clip on the needle to either the second to last leanest setting or the last setting (as lean as it will go). It seems to run pretty good like that, I can’t remember which setting I put it on but it’s one of those two.

      @@JM.Performance the 212 crank would work and put the piston at a zero deck height and turn it into a 200cc. The 224 wouldn’t work without a block extension or a short rod since it’s 3mm longer than the 212 crank. I want to do this as well to my hisun engine. It already has the max stroke crank off of omb it’s only .010 longer. And I wanna get a 14cc head with 5mm vavle stems and make a big vavle head that’s milled and ported/ polished. I honed about a 1000 cilinders in my life. Learned it from an oldtimer. Honing should be done at very low speed. If you take a very close look at the finished cilinder wall you should see sort of diagonal stripes at 45 degrees. You can only achieve this at a very low speed.

    Great to see you having a go yourself, best way to learn. When your budget increases get a PVL flywheel as others have suggested, as I’d hate to see you hurt by an exploding flywheel. I built my sons kart engine for an open performance four stroke class in Australia and it’s a 228cc based on Tillotson 72mm bore block. It’s running a ARC billet flywheel and conrod, Tillotson piston and rings, stroker crank, ported 22cc head machined 20 thou etc. No idea how much power it has but it’s enough to win races. Link below to one of his race wins, kart #26 below:

    • @JM.Performance

      @@wildw77 It sounds like a lean condition to me… make sure your carburetor is 100% clean and make sure you have 0 vacuum leaks. If it still does the same thing I would try upping the main jet in your carburetor. Try running it without an air filter/ air box (not sure what carb set up you have) and see what it does… if it gets worse then yes it’s lean, if it seems to get a little better then it could be rich and the air filter/ air box is starving it for air. Try it out and see what happens, I’d order a variety of jets just to be safe. If none of this seems to work you could just have a vacuum leak you don’t know about or it could be spark/ ignition related. I’m positive it’s just lean though.

The bottom of the head has also been shaved down to the first row of fins… it was on VP 110 octane race gas in this video as well for the hotter plug and the extra compression.
