Today Mom and I summited Vesper Peak, accessed from the Sunrise Mine Trail off the Mountain Loop Highway. It is only 4 miles to Vesper Basin, although the trail is very rough and rocky, with steep switchbacks up to Headlee Pass. Vesper Lake was still frozen over when we arrived at the basin. It is only a mile more up to the peak, though the trail is steep and requires routefinding skills once you emerge from the greenery to Vesper's white granite face. The 360 degree views from the top command sweeping views of Glacier Peak, Mt Baker, Mt Stuart, Big Four Mountain, Copper Lake, Gothic Peak, Del Campo, Sperry Peak, and Morning Star Peak. We could smell a whiff of wildfire in the air and it was a little hazy, which is why the mountains look very blue with little definition. Even so, the views were spectacular.

This hike was hard. Not just because of the mileage or elevation; the trail conditions are rough with all the roots and boulders. Watch those ankles! And finding the most efficient route can be challenging. All that aside, what an incredible payoff with that view at the top! Five stars!! Epic!! Thanks for making this video so we can relive the amazing views. 😊

You made 4,000' elevation gain on that hike look like child's play! Looked impressive.

No way! Vesper Peak was my first experience in VR (The Lab) many years ago. This feels nostalgic even though I've never 'actually' been there.

Unbelievable views and this video has motivated to do this hike before the end of the month. Hell, I might as well do Gothic Basin and Mt Dickerman as well.

Really nicely done video! 👍 The summit is fantastic, as is your editing. Both songs work perfectly, and your camera work is quite good also. Great, life-long memory for you and your mom! Awesome! 👏

Been up there many times over these 50 years, including on telemark skis. Can’t do this stuff anymore at 70, so thanks for your video. One comment which is perhaps a generational difference, but the mountains are the primary interest, so maybe fewer selfies and poses might make it even better?

I've been to Vesper also. It is really nice to see young people, smile, laugh, jump, dance and know they are enjoying a unique mountain experience.

The video of y’all at the top kinda cracked me up because you have the exact same energy as when you started. Did yall even break a sweat? 🤣 I cannot wait to do this one next year.
