You are still a great fisherman motor or no motor. Don’t forget where you came from fishing on the ditches in Tennessee. “Ditches to Riches” thank you for a great year.🤜🏻💥🤛🏻
Check out Justin's with the spot lock! He doesn't always use that one, uses for different circumstances. He also has a peddle kayak that he uses a lot. Kayak Catfish. He's how I found you, when he dumped his!!!😂 He would be a good one to reach out to.
To avoid breaking ur tips only reel the fish in to the full length of ur rod love your channel and watch every video but have notice you reel up to close to the tip keep up the teaching the word
Get the torqeedo plus innovative sportsman rock guard. Total game changer. And ignore the "you might as well buy a boat" comments, they don't understand that the best water isn't boat ramp accessible.
Love my jon boat.8ft9 .it holds my Flippin stick😅,and any water 6 inches or more I'm in there!I had a ascend 10t,but my buddy would out fish me,cuz I would row,and he had a motor.so I went w the jonboat,it allows me to rest better stand or sit,and plenty of room for tackle, and my dog.Go John! Love your style, of videos, and content 👌. You have helped me a ton. So if I can help shoot me a question, about anything ✌️🤠.
@_FisherFolk_ I use a minkota 55lb thrust variable w battery life tester button.and I've got a 100 Amp lipo group 31 weighs 26 lbs.love that thing. I added a weedless wedge prop, and a vibration absorbing hub nut, which is awsome. Super smooth, noticeable difference in prop vibration.
A good flat bottom boat with a good trolling motor can get you in a lot of places. It’s more comfortable and you can carry more rods, tackle,&food. I definitely see were the kayak is still needed but the comfort level in a Jon boat is awfully nice.
Check out some NRS boundary boots for winter kayak fishing...don't have to risk falling in trying to keep your feet dry getting in an out. some of the put in points are a muddy mess in the winter.
A boat? I started watching you because you didn’t fish like all the others. You were wading and occasionally kayaking and still catching fish. That’s what drew me in and kept me.
Great teaching video about catching cold water largemouth! I hope you will put out a video showing cold water techniques and baits for stream smallmouth. I have quit fishing winters here in Ky on my creek since I have gone 0-fer in my last 3 trips in November and December! Keep up the good work on your videos!
anything breaking in fishing is incredibly frustrating and annoying whether a rod, reel, or bait. i cant deny a spark of joy that comes along with it, though. the realization i get to go and get a new rod or bait, and having a legitimate reason/excuse to give the ol lady so she cant be too upset is sublime lol
I broke a st croix casting Rod this year. Never a fun time lol. Thankfully they replaced it for free. I enjoy watching you search out a body of water. I’ve been hung up on electronics.. I think it would take away from the connection I feel as I am out there searching for the next fish. I love the element of surprise and feeling a big bass just smash my lure. I’d rather that be the start to fighting a fish in verses expecting it and just getting mad when I see fish on a fish finder that won’t bite. Just my .02
5:11 my wife & I never laughed so hard!.. "awwwww!!!".. so funny your reaction, there were tears in our eyes as we laughed our asses off.. sorry, but at the same time, Thanks for giving us such a good laugh!.. bet if you watch it now, all this time later, you'll probably laugh your butt off too.
That stretch of river is exactly what made me rig a trolling motor on my kayak when I was down there, John! And it took me pretty far up the river above that ramp you were at, drift fishing all the way back! If you want pics of the very simple mount I came up with, just contact me and I'll send them to you. The whole thing fits into the existing rod holders, so there no major modifications needed, and it removes easily in a few minutes! Definitely a nice option to have when fishing certain waters.... :-)
John, if you ever want a Chauffeur to go to the location you were at and don't mind teaching someone. I have a gheenoe with a 20 hp, trolling motor and oars with a 4.5 inch draft. I live about 5 miles from you. You got me started fishing so I would love to learn more.
Atta boy, winter time = less fishermen = less pressure. I try to concentrate on banks that recieve the most sunlight with rocks or boulders. The water should be warmer. Slow down because the fish slow down, especially the big ones. I don't know how you feel about Ugly Stick rods but the're really tough. Thanks for sharing and have a Blessed Day!!!
Dec is one of my fav months to fish. My PB for most fish in 1 day solo came in Dec. They bite best here in south MS right before a cold front. They’ll still bite spinners and chatters but I have to move em a lot slower than usual. Any day fishin is a good day regardless of the results. God bless.
Don't you have a Bass Buggy? I use a pond prowler when I want to use an electric motor. Works great for me. I use my kayak for smaller rivers. Those Old Town Motorized kayaks are a fortune. I hear you on the electronics though. I like to find them on my own without electronics too. Seems more of a challenge that way. Sometimes my instincts are right, sometimes not.
John, I feel your pain with breaking your favorite rod. I did the same thing recently and I am heart broken. I would say the day was successful, and productive if you do end up getting a motor for your kayac. That could be a game changer for your tournament fishing. God Bless and GO KATS!!!!!!!
In cold water it's best to fish very slow with very slow finesse baits. Fish will not go far to chase moving bait at all because it expends energy and they are cold.
OOOohhhhhhh... So sorry about your rod. My heart sank when I heard it because I also saw it happen! ...It does open up the "replacement" options path. I hear that Zodias rod is really good... but so is Dobyns... the Lew's line up... St.Croix... and more. These days there are so many options. I think that when you do get a motor you're gonna be sayin' "Why did I wait so long to do this!" ..I like that you still feel comfortable fishing without electronics. To me that's still real fishing. It's a shame that we have to compromise so much to "stay competitive" these days. One of the things that I like about your channel / fishing style is the fact that you don't use electronics. As a bank and pond fisherman, I have never owned a single fish detection device in over 60 years of fishing. That's not to say I wouldn't if I could afford one, but I do enjoy trying to figure them out! Blessings!
I was thinking some of the exact same things this last weekend fishing the river! I was hoping for a couple big fish but did get one 20 incher. I also paddled my butt off! It took me 2 hours to paddle less than 4 miles back up against the current and I was really wishing I had a trolling motor or a pedal drive! The river was moving pretty good and really challenging to fish in the rain.
Thanks for the scriptures you post at the endings. That’s my favorite part of your videos. You may never know this side of Heaven how many people you’re reaching for Christ through your craft. I hate you broke your favorite rod, but I know God will bless you with a new one because of your faithfulness. May you have a very Merry Christmas!
get the gps spot lock if you can - if not just get a decent trolling motor - speaking of trolling - you should try trolling cranks right down the middle as an experiment - you can cover a lot of ground and it will help you figure out where the fish are - an of course talk to some of the fish finder manufacturers and try to get a sponsorship
Long lining works. I use Carolina rig out back of the boat to clean up.sometimes a underspin,or a chatterbait too...while I'm dialing in the conditions.
Heck ya brother getting fish left and right it’s nice to see for sure plus I notice the new style drone footage ur doing great man enjoy urself down there and have a very merry Christmas
Glad to see you growing your 🎣. Killer idea to try what you have not before. I recently punched out 2 fish in the cold fronts down here in florida.and ive never done that in the winter too... go John!
Dude I've been pounding the Schuylkill all month. The smallies have been epic along with the walleye. Had 2 really nice muskies since Thanksgiving. Did the ocean last Sat out of AC and had an 80 plus inch bluefin tuna in the morning then moved inshore and hammered the stripers. We lost count and all were between 20 and 40lbs. There were allot of smoked arms this week 😂
You are freezing me to death Jon, but when you've got fishing adventures in your blood then you're going to go fishing come rain, snow or shine, you're gonna go fishing any time, ain't that right Jon? Please keep up the great work for your great channel. I love what you do ❤😊
I have fished for stripers in February in the hot water discharge from the Northport , NY power plant . It was so cold that we had to stop every few minutes to clean the ice out of the guides on our rods ,but we caught LOTS of stripers ,usually around 50 or so per trip for two of us .
Great video bro, I say if you don't zero that's a successful day, plus your out doing what you love to do, I think a motor would be good or a spot lock trolling motor where you can keep the boat in 1 location & pick the area clean, when you have current especially! Merry Christmas! PS. Really enjoyed the Florida fishing trip!
No jerk baits? I’d not fished em much until this year when I’ve been making myself use em and they’re awesome. I totally agree re: yer rationale for loving to fish. I love “working out the puzzle” of a new challenge. I like the workout of paddling my canoe but been wondering if I ought to get a trolling motor…
Say yes for success !!! Bummer about your favorite rod, happens to everyone eventually. You have proven that fish can be caught in Dec. cold water. Maybe Shimano would like to present you with a new replacement rod !!! Maybe they will let buy your new rod with your own money !! LOL ! Glad we can get cold weather content to watch. Dang, bro..sucks you broke ya rod. Always does I guess, especially a favorite. Seems to me,in my area anyway, on my Flint😊, that the shoalies bite better when it's colder..but the bite is slow as slow can be sometimes. Cool video and fish on
I don't think I've ever caught a fish in the winter. You just showed me it can be done. Like that intro a lot. Not bad for a cold December day. Water cold, the fishing was pretty hot. Surprised me!
Yeah this is the first year I have bass fished through the fall and into the winter, and have been surprised how good it has been. I usually switch over to saltwater this time of year.
If I didn’t break something or lose something it wouldn’t be fishing😆. I have 2 trolling motors and they can get me to spots that a paddle won’t, but they are also something else that will break, and they are more heavy gear to lug around. I don’t use them as much as I thought I would.
I am in awe of you. I tried to do fishing video myself. It was horrible. I have a sales UA-cam channel and it is also horrible. Lol Thanks John. I'm leaving the UA-cam fishing shows to the professionals. 😂
Man that really sucks that you broke that nice rod. I'm sure you got your moneys worth out of it though with as many fish as you've caught on it . Great vid as always buddy. 👊👍
my experience fishing 🎣 December/late fall you’ll have to have sixty degree days more than one. then comfy chair on the bank boating 🛶 subtract 10 degrees no thanks just excuse to get out if i catch something or nothing enjoy the day.
Electronics in those creeks doesn’t make much sense? Fishing a big river, lake yeah but small water?? think a motor be a plus in those rivers having to go against that current, but any waters you get more range. Cheers man cool fishing
Remember you need to register your boat if you get a motor, even a trolling motor. I enjoy winter fishing, mostly, when the sun is out haha! My adventures of winter are all on the bank, but my best is the same... DON'T FALL IN! I got my lower legs wet once and had to leave within 15 minutes because I was so cold. Be careful and have fun! P.S. Sorry about your favorite rod.
You are still a great fisherman motor or no motor. Don’t forget where you came from fishing on the ditches in Tennessee. “Ditches to Riches” thank you for a great year.🤜🏻💥🤛🏻
Tennessee has got to be one of the most beautiful states in the U.S.
everywhere you fish is awesome looking!
Check out Justin's with the spot lock! He doesn't always use that one, uses for different circumstances. He also has a peddle kayak that he uses a lot. Kayak Catfish. He's how I found you, when he dumped his!!!😂 He would be a good one to reach out to.
When you broke that rod and went silent.
Only hard core anglers felt exactly what you were feeling, even in silence.
Great video, keep grinding!
To avoid breaking ur tips only reel the fish in to the full length of ur rod love your channel and watch every video but have notice you reel up to close to the tip keep up the teaching the word
Get the torqeedo plus innovative sportsman rock guard. Total game changer. And ignore the "you might as well buy a boat" comments, they don't understand that the best water isn't boat ramp accessible.
i would like to get a boat one day, but i could never give up my kayak
@CreekFishingAdventures having both is ideal. And the ultimate goal is a jet boat!
At 5:11 not only did you break a rod but a fish was busting to the right side about 50 yards downstream.
Check out some NRS boundary boots for winter kayak fishing...don't have to risk falling in trying to keep your feet dry getting in an out. some of the put in points are a muddy mess in the winter.
Took me a while to come around but the motor is a game changer. Go for it.
You should try the hank parker signature spiner bait, love your video's
A boat? I started watching you because you didn’t fish like all the others.
You were wading and occasionally kayaking and still catching fish. That’s what drew me in and kept me.
thanks for watching, im sure ill get a real boat one day, i have 2 small ones and never use them

Love the intro footage and music 👍
John’s cinematography and editing skills seem to improve with every video!

Struggling a bit with winter up here in Virginia. Thanks for the video.
Check out the Old Town Sportsman 106 MK. I love mine & no motor sticking up in your way.

Boats can supper simple too. 16 foot semi v tiller. And a good trolling motor.
Been watching for sometime now. Your channel is starting to become my favorite fishing channel. God bless brother.
I appreciate that!
I’ve broke a couple rods this year. Definitely frustrating but like you said when you’ve gotten a lot of use out of them you can’t get mad!
I like that you don’t fish with electronics. 90% of boat anglers would be totally clueless without them
I think successful. I think the motor would be helpful specially the Susquehanna tournament you did.
You got out on the water and caught some bass. You didn't flip over or fall out. That was a good trip. Thanks for sharing.
John, I feel your pain with breaking your favorite rod. I did the same thing recently and I am heart broken. I would say the day was successful, and productive if you do end up getting a motor for your kayac. That could be a game changer for your tournament fishing. God Bless and GO KATS!!!!!!!
Oh yeah!! You made my day just being able to watch your video!! I really like the kayak idea and live in Gallatin, thanks 👍
Great video! You might want to look at a specialty boat like a Gheenoe Lt10. Extremely good shallow water capability, but the utility of a boat.
That Berkley worm in black is my go to bait. It will produce for me when all else fails. Love your videos.
In cold water it's best to fish very slow with very slow finesse baits.
Fish will not go far to chase moving bait at all because it expends energy and they are cold.
Still an awesome time! Was wondering if they bit in Winter…obviously they do!
OOOohhhhhhh... So sorry about your rod. My heart sank when I heard it because I also saw it happen! ...It does open up the "replacement" options path. St Croix is definitely one of the best production rods out there 👍
i think your right about the motor
I've got an xi3 with spot lock on my sportsman 120 and its a game changer in the current 100 percent worth it
I was thinking some of the exact same things this last weekend fishing the river! I was hoping for a couple big fish but did get one 20 incher. I also paddled my butt off! Nice!!! I think enjoy is first priority, definitely sometimes, something might go wrong but that's the beauty of adventure!!!
Have you ever looked at solo skiffs? Bote and a few other companies make them perfect for what you enjoy!!
get the gps spot lock if you can - if not just get a decent trolling motor - speaking of trolling - you should try trolling cranks right down the middle as an experiment - you can cover a lot of ground and it will help you figure out where the fish are - an of course talk to some of the fish finder manufacturers and try to get a sponsorship

John, you always have the best intro guitar music. Makes me wanna go moon shining or something lol.
Broke my favorite rod ad put another tip on work but not as well but did work was pretty happy with results
Merry Christmas John keep the good work up
On cold days I liked a hairy jig with a chartreuse trailer.
Heck ya brother getting fish left and right it’s nice to see for sure plus I notice the new style drone footage ur doing great man enjoy urself down there and have a very merry Christmas
Good vid! I like a dark blue and black chatter bait in the murky water.🤙 Though that chartreuse is killin them!
I watched a fisherman in Ireland he used a trolling motor on his kayak or do you want a regular motor.
Awesome winter fishing. Love your videos. Can’t wait until spring. I want to get out there now
I can relate/ I broke the tip off of my ultra light setup a couple days ago. Way to keep your cool- I wasn’t so calm LOL
Glad to see you growing your 🎣. Killer idea to try what you have not before. I recently punched out 2 fish in the cold fronts down here in florida.and ive never done that in the winter too... go John!

Sounds great!
Not using electronics is part of the adventure, which is one reason you enjoy the way you fish.
I think your kayak is perfect as is because it moves quietly
I liked the concept of pac motor for kayaks bc i could put it on different kayaks , but i think there is a wait list
Which bait is Jon catching fish on today? All of em!
Another epic video 📹 Jon!!!! Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄
What equipment are you using to do your drone footage? Awesome video as always!
dji mini se, controller connects to your phone
John, you should call Richard Jean the fishing machine . He's been on some big crappie.
God bless you 🙏.
Do you know how cold the water was or how deep you were fishing?
Have you ever try a snagless sally
great video and great fishing!! have a good evening and week!! happy holiday to you and your family!
I'm reluctant to enter a tournament because I'm in a paddle kayak. Would be starting out with a huge disadvantage.
Great video and some nice fish beautiful place hope you have a great holiday
Awesome video go big blue great win
Im fixing my pelican up with trolling motor in front and putting in sunk in pole holders.
Well said John, love your videos and the passion you have for the sport and the adventure. Keep it up!!
Wait, you have a boat you found last year. What did you do with it?
I would say fish how you like to dont matter what people say do it your way that’s makes you happy, we will still watch your videos
What river are you fishing
Great video bro, I say if you don't zero that's a successful day, plus your out doing what you love to do, I think a motor would be good or a spot lock trolling motor where you can keep the boat in 1 location & pick the area clean, when you have current especially! Merry Christmas! PS. Really enjoyed the Florida fishing trip!
looks like a good day and you caught some fish
You need to build your own custom rods! Check out Mudhole in Florida! Build exactly what you want n need!
Always be careful. Pap Blevins
Dang, bro..sucks you broke ya rod. Always does I guess, especially a favorite. Seems to me,in my area anyway, on my Flint😊, that the shoalies bite better when it's colder..but the bite is slow as slow can be sometimes. Cool video and fish on
Great video, sorry about the rod . I know that stings. Perseverance leads to success.
Looking like Wendell with that beard. Thanks.
Check John out with the backhand flip cast 😮 wasn't that long ago u hardly used baitcaster
thats for sure, its amazing how comfortable i am now
Could have done what I did and sat at home and caught nothing!
Well, it was snowing up here in Northwest Indiana so...
The best advice for winter fishing- slow down! No, slower!
Looked like a successful day to me!! Sucks your rod broke but you caught fish👍
hey you just got to keep at it
Man that really sucks that you broke that nice rod. I'm sure you got your moneys worth out of it though with as many fish as you've caught on it . Great vid as always buddy. 👊👍
You can have that broken spinning rod repair you may lose just a little sensitive it’s beat buying a new one
You're getting like me, fishing the same river and same section of river over and over.
I’m sure old towne would throw a motorized kayak at you
i will be asking them first
I recognize that river!!
yes sir
try a football jig and might catch bigger ones.
You’ll love it I done it and love it.
Check out Big Frank's Outdoors in Maryville, Tn. They have a variety of small boats, skiffs, Etc..
my experience fishing 🎣 December/late fall you’ll have to have sixty degree days more than one. then comfy chair on the bank boating 🛶 subtract 10 degrees no thanks just excuse to get out if i catch something or nothing enjoy the day.
