Love this dude... if he would answer the messages I think he would. I know guys bigger than him, and they reply to every message except negative ones of course
I wanna tell you something Mr. Richard. I've learned so much from watching your videos the past 5 years. Thank you for the all the good times, laughs, and knowledge you spread. I really like how you love God. As for me being a 15 year old. It's hard to find people like you anymore. I appreciate it alot. I like all your videos, I'll see you out there on the water Mr. Richard. Catch em all brotha.
By far. The very best fishing channel in all of UA-cam history. So underrated!!! Gene you hide nothing. You belong in the Fishing Hall of Fame. No cap!
I'm heading out to bank fish / dam fish for my first Sauger this weekend. I love these detailed tackle overview videos because they help give me confidence in my own decision making when targeting an unfamiliar species. Thanks Mr. Gene!!!
Richard, your photography has improved enormously - the pictures of the sauger at the end of the video (with the sun in the background) were just gorgeous. And your fingernails have all grown back! I'll bet that's much more comfortable.
The first time I was taken fishing my Dad took me sauger fishing below Watts Bar Dam . I was three years old and I was told that it was freezing ! Haven’t been in a long time but you have whetted my appetite for some “ Jack fishin’” ! Thanks ………….
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise Richard. God bless you and Momma Sue. Love y'all Both...! Please take care and stay safe. "Tight Lines" , Sir. We'd love to see more of Momma Sue Richard. Just bundle her up and bring her out some more .! ❤
Damn I just love Richard .... he is just a great guy! Thanks for the content. I fish here in Texas and mention your videos to everyone I meet when fishing. EVERYONE knows about your content.... Keep up the great work.
Was just telling my brother in Spokane a few days ago that I was thinking of running up to Guntersville Dam and fishing the riprap from shore. I guess Richard convinced me to go ahead and do it.
I made a Dutch oven pot for f beans outside the other day, I think I had four different kinds. My son and a couple of his friends were over and I was deep frying some bluegill, a few crappies and perch. I had three, four bags of fillets about thirty, forty each bag. I kept frying and putting them on paper towel they kept eating. When I was done I had six fillets and scraping that pot o beans!! They all said that was the best fish they ever ate!! Now I’m waiting for the ice to get some more fish in the freezer!!! But it’s all good👍
Nice video, Richard! Getting back to the basics is always a sure thing! Reminds me of the time I was bank fishing, and had caught a few nice catfish. I made a cast and let it settle to the bottom, but before I could put the pole down, I felt a hard THUMP! I set the hook, but all it did was bend the rod... Whatever it was didn't budge... So I figured it must be hung on the bottom or a 'blind fish' or else. I kept pulling, puttin' some kinda strain on that line, when directly it started movin' slowly... I was moving along the bank as it did, and it happened that I was walking toward my truck... I had an idea, so I loosened up the drag just a bit, and let it take some line as I angled my steps toward the back of my truck...! As I got there, I reached down and put a couple of half-hitches on the tow ball, and threw the rod in the bed... I ran around, jumped behind the wheel, cranked it up and eased up the bank in low gear, and I was making progress! I kept easing up the bank, and right about the time it was gonna break the surface of the water, IT JUMPED UP OUT OF THE WATER, POPPED MY LINE *AND FLEW OFF!* Happened so fast, I didn't see a thing by the time I climbed out of the truck... I started to go straight home and tell the wife what happened, but something told me she'd never believe me... So, I just kept on fishing... God bless ALL of us! WWG1WGA
You the Man when it comes to fishing and catching anything out there I honestly believe you could catch fish in a mud hole thanks for all the informative vedios you put out it’s sure help my fishing game and I appreciate it thanks and God bless you and yours buddy
Lord Love Ya'll Richard Gene, You may have talked enough for you, but it was just enough for me!! You always take the time to show a newbie like me just exactly what I need to know. Rod, Reel, line & bait. I am soooo thankful to learn about the Cajun line as a leader. I keep putting off buying any fluorocarbon line. It is so pricey and I can only get out to the lake on rare occasions and then for such a short time, I hate to spend the Lord's money on a gimmick or unnecessary items. I have a couple of spools of Red Cajun line I got on sale! I'll use it to tie up some leaders before heading to the lake & let you know how we get on! Blessings to You & Mama Sue!
Thank You Richard, for sharing you great info and d you video, you are the best on youtube! That is why I always share your videos! 🙂 God's Blessings Always! 😇
I love watching it videos Richard. I love the zman baits also. The 1/15 micro shroomz head has a #4 hook, 1/20 and 1/30 has a #6 hook. They work very well
My favorite rig off the river behind the house in spring was a 9 ft salmon rod with a tiny ice fishing reel loaded with 8 lb fire line which is 6 lb diameter. To that is attached a small snap lock swivel. Then using a small chartreuse jig with the soft body and feather tail similar to yours I would run about 26 - 30” of 8 lb. low vis mono. Do a palomar knot for a loop to make change outs easy & quick. Add a split shot at the top, a small crappie minnow and a touch of walleye scent attractant and have fun. This gave excellent casting reach and with a 20 ft. wide stream coming into the river there you could cast to reach the far point and come across the mouth drifting down. That mono made for quick change outs but with a split shot on the mono if you snagged and broke off it was the mono that went. Much easier than tying up fireline. Have a few mono leaders tied and set aside and you’re right back in business. With this and sharp hooks you don’t have to set the hook, just draw up tight. And yes; by late evening those fish would be within 2 to 3 feet of the bank chasing minnows.
That was fun and reminds me to be more patient and take my time. That probably why I have been struggling catching my bait fish for the cats because I get on a hurry.
We fish for saugeye here in Ohio. Lake dam evening to dark. The colder the water the better the eating. We bleed them out and eat them when we get home. Nothing better!!!! Yummy 😋
Thank you, Richard, for another good video. I really appreciate all the knowledge and tips that you give us. My Sunday evening is complete now, I got my Richard Gene video seen. Thank you, Richard . God bless ya'll, and stay safe on your trips to bring us these videos.
Richard..............WOO right back at you :) You are the best! I learn something every video....WOOOO!!! God Bless and Merry Christmas!!!!! I'm a happy camper....Santa is bringing me a St Croix UL and a Penn Spinning Reel.................Better Yet..................It's our Lord's Birthday!!!! Happy Bday Jesus!!!!!!!
That was funny when you started ramping up your "woo" and the dam siren finished for you!😁 Thank you for using your gift of teaching for our pleasure and benefit. The Lord bless you and yours. Happy Christmas.
I use that loop knot on all my jigs, even ice fishing with 2lb line. You’ll get more bites with it for sure. Braid to mono as leader is pretty strong but I’ve found braid to flourocarbon the knot and I’ve tried them all will eventually slip out!!!
Richard Gene...it's Fuego. Like fire in Spanish. FUH-WAAY-GO. LOL. Love your content and expertise. God bless you and your family during this holiday season. Merry Christmas.
I do that very same thing on the Kentucky river. Fishing the locks. Ill see you out there come Christmas. Finally get to go to guntersville after all these years watching your videos 🎉😊
I watch offen n learn something bout ever time. I live in north east montana 14 miles from Canada n 70 from north Dakota wish u could come up here n fish my little creeks or fort peck. Hello Justin. It all looks very good. I would worry about getting fat later. 😂 I am just jealous I cannot have some of that crappie. God Bless. 🙏. Charlie.
Merry christmas Mr.richard..give my best to momma sue... And rub elmo's head and tell him max said merry christmas.. Much love and respect to you and your family
I don’t like eating them though. I fillet and cut the bloodline out and soak in brine overnight. Still a strong fish and not a fan of the texture. Crappie and Gil’s have spoiled me lol
Hello Sir luv your channel!! Could you cut one of them lures and take about 1 quarter (thick end piece) then trim off a bit of another( setting end ) and use that lock tight stuff with your patented floss hook technique ( which is genius) to modify this lure to the size desired 😮?! Thanks again for everything you do and God Bless!!
I've been catching em off the bank in the Ohio River, below a big dam. I caught several small ones and this guy got mad because I was throwing them back. Lol. They were only 10" at best.
How Richard Gene don’t have a million + subs is beyond me. Hands down the best and most informative fishing channel on UA-cam
He has me relearn my whole approach to fishing. I am one with the fish now.
He will don’t worry
Love this dude... if he would answer the messages I think he would. I know guys bigger than him, and they reply to every message except negative ones of course

Finding sauger and walleye is a real treat. Tastes every bit as good as bluegill and crappie, but they really fight hard.
Love your videos. Very informative and entertaining
Best fishing channel on UA-cam

Great video Richard, really appreciated. Thanks for sharing.
I have never caught sauger before, definitely on the list of species to catch! You do great videos Richard! Keep em coming brother!
They're like Walleye just don't have the White strip on the back fin. Very good eating fish.
Beautiful dark bars on sauger. Kind of like mini-walleye.
That was funny when you started ramping up your "woo" and the dam siren finished for you!😁 Thank you for using your gift of teaching for our pleasure and benefit. The Lord bless you and yours. Happy Christmas.

Ive been trying to catch sauger and walleye lately at night with no luck but our weather here in Nebraska is ehhh.
God bless my friend!!
Great video Richard! Those look a lot like walleye to me, we don’t have either in Fla. God Bless you and Mama Sue, and Merry Christmas!
Those sauger look super cool 😎 👌 looks like a picture perfect day for fishing Richard!!!
Yes sir
THANKS!
Like always…..you make the best videos!!! Wait on a new one ever week!!
Those little fish eat big meals. I remember catching a 18in one that spit out a 12in shad
I do that very same thing on the Kentucky river. Fishing the locks. Ill see you out there come Christmas. Finally get to go to guntersville after all these years watching your videos 🎉😊
Merry Christmas and happy new year 😊

Heck yeaa I caught 2 here in kansas probably 3 months ago
I have never caught one of those. Looks like fun fishing
Hey Richard, How do you clean your sauger to eat them. Can you have a video how to do that when you get on some. God bless buddy.
A true blue, damn good fisherman.

You found my spot
Funny man, knowledgeable man, love the experience he shares. Seen Elmo lately?😅
as much creek fishing as you do in the summer, i'm very surprised you don't chase those sauger up the creeks in the winter
Richard! I want to see more framing and carpentry!
They are starting to get good on Kentucky/Barkley lakes. Catching a few 3-3.5lb fish
I don’t like eating them though. I fillet and cut the bloodline out and soak in brine overnight. Still a strong fish and not a fan of the texture. Crappie and Gil’s have spoiled me lol
Gahlleee 2nd to none folks

Hey Richard what size jig head do you use with those baits
Hi Richard when the wind is out the east?
Early bird 🪱
I swear I’ll run into ya there one day. 😅 they are moving in for sure! I am still getting mainly undersized ones.
What lb test leader was you using with 8 lb braid?
WOOOOOOOOO!!!
Are sauger line-shy, then, Richard, that you need a lower-visibility line?
Cut another bait and glue them together to make the length you want.
Richard, where can I buy Sowbelly rods? I live in Illinois and I looked all over. I’ve tried to find sowbelly website.
Like me some Sauger, probably just a little better than walleye, just like them yellow perch.
Please get us a catfish video out!!!!!!
What brand of braid?
Does anyone recognize who makes the two fishing rods Richard Gene is using in this video? Thanks.
After watching part of this video way to many times it appears that the rods in this video are Sowbelly rods.
I've been catching em off the bank in the Ohio River, below a big dam. I caught several small ones and this guy got mad because I was throwing them back. Lol. They were only 10" at best.
I concur that 🤗🤪
So what is a Sauger? kind of like a pike or walleye?
Another goodun 🐖🎣🇺🇸
Iv never caught a saugher before I guess we might not have them in Florida maybe we do 😶 idk
Tell Vursell, his wife said pickup some Pepto. Them old Thanksgiving butter beans causing some problems.
The fart at 9:37 made this video even more awesome
I tried 5 times. Lol never once heard a fart
What I think you heard was him saying hah
Are we sharing
