Just putting this out there, the RPG7 which was used to down the Blackhawk, has a self destruct fuze set at 917m. If you hover at 1000m you could literally just sit over the target.
I would suggest not pointing straight at your target in the apache. Turn sideways a bit so you can view downward easier and the gun will easily track to the targets. When head on, you have to pitch down which obviously results in forward movement. Would like to have seen human gunners with human pilots. Best of both worlds. Pilot can keep a stable platform while gunner freely moves the gun to targets.
That is a very difficult decision Cap. I suppose it depends on how sick you're prepared to get in order to fulfill the wishes and happiness of others. You surely can't let it become too detrimental.
Someone else can look after the kids, Cap. You have to look after yourself. Maybe put it out that you need a replacement, and explain the circumstances? Someone would be proud to step up...I certainly would if we were on the same continent.
When I first got the Apache I hated it. I had just switched from MSFS helicopters to DCS helicopters and the difference is steep. MSFS is a game, the DCS World is a sim and I struggled with just taking off. Like a pig on roller skates. But with all your videos and plain ol' stick with it I am an Apache Ace. Nap of the earth at 120 knots and then transition to a glassy smooth landing. I was lucky to land on hard surface of the airport at first, now I can sit it down on the Burj Al Arab helipad like a boss. The Huey is what I am currently struggling with. Take off, cruise is a piece of cake. Hovering and landing...not so good
I didn't play MSFS so I don't know how realistic they made the flight models but you should remember that civilian aircraft are made to be easy to fly compared to military vehicles which are made to perform, it's like comparing a cessna to a warbird. Completely different design priorities.
Having been that big adult kid working with kids at church years ago I know how rewarding it is and how hard it is to say you need a break. The kids will miss you but when you go back next time they will make it up to you so it's worth balancing your health and the fun.
gotta do another version with hooman pilots and hooman cp/g's so one can focus on just flying and another can focus on just shooting, might increase the score even more than getting the AI out of there
I think an interesting idea would be an Mi-24VP or Ka-50, since they were not only active during the battle of Mogadishu, but were also used for similar rescue/close urban CAS in Chechnya. They are one of the only helicopters active at the same time which also has experience with the same mission.
Sorry to hear about your cancer, Cap. A bit of generally useful advice is: you can't pour from an empty cup. Take care of yourself first, and then help others in a way that doesn't kill you.

I asked ChatGPT... "Grim Reapers, as depicted in popular culture, are often portrayed as fearsome and intimidating figures that represent death and the end of life. This representation has led to a mystique and fascination with Grim Reapers, which some people find intriguing and, therefore, "awesome." However, the concept of death is culturally and personally subjective, so opinions on Grim Reapers and their "awesomeness" will vary."
What about human gunners? Wouldnt it be far easier if the pilot can just focus on hovering at a good radial and the gunner can just focus on not hitting the busses?
Not using the hellfire really takes away from you’re ability to be precise, albeit a great ranger close radius for the weapon itself. Not having someone manually operating the weapon systems from the CPG seat is also a great disadvantage.
Also just hovering stationary and trying to hold the aircraft level with the stick is pretty bad for accuracy. Moving at a constant speed helps stabilize the aircraft in pitch and roll which is the biggest cause of accuracy issues. The FCS can predict and account for the natural movement of the aircraft but it can't predict and account for the stick input very well.

The Apache is armed with a cannon which fires shells, not bullets. The rounds fired by said cannon are short for a 30mm so their ballistics are similar to a grenade launcher.

I think if they do this again RPGs will be key. Im pretty sure they will need humans controlling RPG infantry on the ground because I don't think AI will fire RPGs at aircraft but that was such a key part of this battle, its what famously Downed the Blackhawks in the first place, I think it would be necessary.

How is being shot at by a heat seeking self guiding missile (Stinger) "inaccurate fire"? Rather more effective than dumb RPGs. If the insurgents had Stingers than all Apaches would be downed. Of course the next real life situation like this he insurgents WILL have Stinger due to the volume left behind in Afghanistan and given to Ukraine.

Cap. As your immune system has been affected by cancer, you need to look after yourself first, then your family and then everyone else. If you choose to carry on looking after the kids then you'll have to notify the parents about what's happening. If a child is I'll but the parent still drops of the child then they are putting your life at risk. It's your call in the end, but you come first. Also good shooting. 😀👍
have do you guys ever considered trying the AC 130 gunship for a situation like this? I don't think it could be the Apache but I think it could do well
I don't think it would do great, but I do think it'd make a great video! (Assuming the AC-130 mod permits you to actually aim the guns now; last video I saw it was boresight only.)
In real life a single manpad could have shot down all of these apaches. Flying slowly at high altitude over urban environments is basically suicide for helicopters like this.
If you have to be close to kids with a compromised immune system at least wear mask and gloves and take a shower as soon as you get home. My parents used to work in a pediatric hospital and we got sick all the time at first. But when precautions were taken we got sick somewhat less often.
One thing I noticed is you all hover too much, you're just a target. Plus the ah-64 can carry 1200 rd of 30mm. If heavy from the temp carry less rockets.
Wouldn't the apaches have performed much better if a human was in the gunner seat as he would have had much more precision whilst being better at avoiding friendlies then the AI?
Hey Cap. I'm immunocompromised and volunteer with the youth ministry (12-18 year olds) at my church in the Boston area. After being involved pretty consistently with youth ministry for the last 12 years since helping during college/ university, I took a break last year mainly because of burn out (was serving every week during the year outside summer and also had a full time job). I started back up again in the fall because 1) I felt I had a specially given skill set with that age group that needed to serve a purpose 2) I hated seeing the turnover of other volunteers before me and wanted our teenagers to have someone who is consistently around and not going to leave after 6 months. For a lot of time during the break, I felt my heart pulling me back and I imagine you might have to wrestle with that too. But a break is totally alright if you need to take the time to be fed into spiritually and physically (going easy on your health) after pouring yourself a lot into other people with everything you do or find some happy median. I'm currently on schedule just twice a month which is much more manageable and taking steps to take care of myself too. Really appreciate the entertainment you bring along with the moments of humanity and vulnerability. Cheers from the US!
surely there is someone else at the church that not only believes in god and all that, they wont be putting their own health at risk. If you want to keep doing it, then do it regardless of what happens.

It’s nice to be wanted and relied upon and it never sucks to act like a child with children. However, your immune system cannot be called upon to fight off the petri dish of illness that is a gathering of modern children. You can still do it but you must have an agreement from all the parents that kids with any illness whatsoever cannot be allowed to participate until they are healthy. No parent would blame you for your compromised condition and given the choice between complying with your stipulations or losing you altogether, you know they’ll choose you. have do you guys ever considered trying the AC 130 gunship for a situation like this?
Why are only 300 rounds modeled for the Apache in DCS, when the real Apache carries 1200 rounds?
Because DCS models the added fuel tank that takes up the ammo bay IIRC
Shouldn't dump your guns straight away like that.
One thing I noticed is you all hover too much, you're just a target. Plus the ah-64 can carry 1200 rd of 30mm. If heavy from the temp carry less rockets.
Boom boom Cap!.
Would like to see a human pilot and have a human gunner in the apache. Two humans in each so the pilot just flies and lets the gunner do his job.
f35 beats a10?
Wouldn't the apaches have performed much better if a human was in the gunner seat as he would have had much more precision whilst being better at avoiding friendlies then the AI?
Too bad the c130 gunship doesn’t function in dcs as real life. Would be nice to see you fly while another runs the air to ground artillery 😂
Ch-47 g or Vietnam ah-47 guns a go-go
just started the video but if iraq was anything to go by this score is gonna be worse than the a-10's
surely there is someone else at the church that not only believes in god and all that, they wont be putting their own health at risk. If you want to keep doing it, then do it regardless of what happens.
Cap, just for fun, break out the F-16s and 18s and 35s with stupid ordnance loads for shits and giggles. Or make one where you guys bring an aircraft that you think can kill everyone and everything the fastest and in a most spectacular fashion.
danger close with an telephoto, AI controlled chain gun. not quite hollywood drama.
I have lupus, which is an autoimmune disease. I have to consider the risk to myself when doing most things. I have managed to not get Covid🖕and have been careful but I have still lived my on my terms. Maybe wear a mask?
Roger, take care Matty :)
I don’t know cap, an I didn’t kill a bus like you….
If you need apache pilots I'm pretty sure Prince Harry is at a loose end.
Man I can't stand the monocle overlay.
sigh .. without watching the video .. OF COURSE IT BLOODY WELL CAN ...SIGH .. .. try a Kiowa or Cayuse. Why spend your time posting videos about the bleeding obvious .. even a Vietnam era Huey / Cobra could kill a few guys armed with nothing more potent then AK47's and the odd RPG. your bias towards the US equipment is getting a bit thin .. I used to love your videos .. but now .. I know the result even before watching them . Try making the fights fairer .. sheesh
First view
It’s nice to be wanted and relied upon and it never sucks to act like a child with children. However, your immune system cannot be called upon to fight off the petri dish of illness that is a gathering of modern children. You can still do it but you must have an agreement from all the parents that kids with any illness whatsoever cannot be allowed to participate until they are healthy. No parent would blame you for your compromised condition and given the choice between complying with your stipulations or losing you altogether, you know they’ll choose you. Who doesn’t want some super Cap in their day?
