I don't do make-a-longs, but I enjoy watching from the sidelines. I am "multi-craftual" as you said you are a couple of weeks ago 😊! So right now I have a quilting project, a cross stitch project, and a knitting project, and that's how I do my thing, I always have 1 of each and I only work on those, rotating between the three projects. So my projects rarely line up with make-a-longs. I just march along to my own tune and play cheerleader. I look forward to what everyone does!

I completely understand that. However my grandma did not weave this bag. When I mentioned that it is woven, I simply mean that the fabric is woven, not that it was woven by my grandma. However, I do think I’ll be repurposing the inner lining and I do have plans on how I can save the fabric. 👍

Another way to look at it is that now the bag is usable which means Tayler gets to think about her grandma every time it gets used. It honors the crafty spirit of grandma and continues the legacy. ❤❤❤

YAY it’s time for the MAL! I am repurposing #10 cotton thread from a crochet maxi vest that my grandmother purchased years ago and eventually gave me. The vest is not something She ever wore and I would not wear but she loved how it looked. We have recently down sized our home and I no longer have the closet space for the vest so had planned on donating the vest until I saw that you were doing this MAL! I will be crocheting angels with the yarn (one being a tree topper and the others will hopefully be ornaments that I will give to each of my cousins in remembrance of our wonderful grandmother). Thank you Tayler!!! 😇

I have an old crocheted blanket that has seen better days. After I unravel it, which could take all month, I am going to make some cat/dog beds. 2 months ago i made a cat bed from a family friend's partially knitted sweater (she passed away over 20 years ago).
Project 2 will harvest zippers from basamati rice bags + crochet a pencil case around it with scrap yarn from a granny cardi.
I love those handles from your grandmother's sewing bag, Tayler. Great way to keep memories alive.
Wishing everyone a creative month of repurposing!

Hi guys. Not sure if this counts for the MAL. please let me know your thoughts. I have knitted a kimono in beautiful wool but I only ended up wearing it once or twice. Because I did not want to waste the wool I unpicked it and knitted a cardigan. Big mistake. Hated it. I unpicked it again and remade the kimono. Hated it. I have now unpicked it again and am knitting the Autumn League Pullover and I LOVE it! It’s almost as if this yarn was just waiting for the right garment - rather than the other way around. 😂

Cool about the MAL. I was thrift store shopping, or op shopping as we say here in Australia, and among other bargains found a 100% cotton top, which I swiftly pulled apart. I will share photos soon on Instagram. I'm planning on making a crochet bag, but since it is off white will try various ideas I have for dyeing the yarn, too. Perhaps some handles from old bags will be employed, too. Thanks for the fun MAL. 🎉

I have the perfect yarn for this. My dad got me 3 boxes of 100% wool yarns from an auction last year, some of which are rather funky and all are at least 30 years old. Some are possibly over 70 years old - all the patterns I could find for two of them were from the 1940s and 1950s! I have a WIP shawl with one of them and some stash yarn already, which won't count for this but is fun to work on. For this I will use several mixed texture greenish yarns from the auction, and the liner will be made from our tent that collapsed during an epic tropical storm camping trip. I am very excited about this MAL!

I have a shawl I knitted with gifted yarn from my son that I left wrapped up in a jacket and it ended up in the wash and was felted. I’ve been contemplating folding it over, picking up stitches and making a bag for a long time now. No idea how to do this but I think I could figure it out. I think it is the perfect project for this MAL. Love your grandmas bag… it’s awesome you are repurposing the handles for a new bag.

I'm unusually excited about this MAL. They're typically not really my thing, but I'm looking forward to this one. I think it's the repurposing that's got my interest! I've been searching my house for something to tear apart and reuse. I settled on an old sheet that I needed to get rid of. I tore it into strips for "yarn" that I'll crochet into a market bag.

For those 100% wool sweaters that you can’t rip out*, wash and dry a few times. Cut this felted material into potholder sizes. Wool makes the BEST potholders!
*If the sweater material is not made in pieces (meaning lengths of yarn are only width), or a colorwork/fair isle pattern.
OR: Make a tote bag: cut off arms of sweater, use straps &attach to shoulders, sew bottom of sweater = bottom. Voila.
(I wish I could draw/diagram for the ideas I have…) Using Tayler’s wooden handles, same principle- I see an arm scythe at the top& sides, (arm holes = opening just below handle), shoulder/neck area thru the handle & sewn to inside. Sew bottom.

I didn't intend it to go with this MAL but I recently unraveled an oversized scarf I had made a few years back out of leftover sweater yarn, realizing that with a few skeins from my stash it would be enough to make an entire second sweater! It took me two days to unravel the scarf since the whole thing was fingering yarn held double, but I've since started on the sweater and I'm super excited to finally use this yarn for something I'll actually use. I've been prioritizing using things in my stash over buying new yarn (as much as I get tempted) and it is SO satisfying to finally make something out of these skeins I've been holding onto for so long.

I've already made a basket (to hold all the yarn for a new blanket), but I was sorting through my FO bag and found 5 things I don't use, they were really just "proof of concept" projects. They're all wildly different weights and fibers, but I think I'll combine them and make something funky for my office table.... time to hit ravelry!
    This is really exciting!

I'm just floored! I paid a little under $5.00 for the whole thing. Now to find the perfect thing to knit! I think there is enough there to double to make a sweater. Lucky day for yarn!

Nice bag. You will need quite long flaps to give you space to open the bag. There is no flexibility in the handles. So if the flaps are only long enough to feed through the handles, the handles will be quite tight together since the bag looks quite narrow compared to the handles. ( no extra space due to sides sticking out which could give you space to open the bag.) Ask how I know. :)

    • @heleng9008
