"Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever" Psalm 119:160. Appreciate the needful discussion giving enlightenment by the scriptures.
At 52:19, Mike says that we have our side of the ledger for things we have to do to be saved, and then goes on to explain a "plan of salvation" that includes acts we must do to be saved, but in Ephesians 2:8-9, Paul tells us that nothing we do saves us. How do you reconcile?
The Bible is clear that there are things we have to do to be saved. The people in Acts 2:37 asked what they must do. The jailer in Acts 16:30 asked what he must do. Why didn’t Peter and Paul respond by saying, “you don’t have to do anything?” Because there are things we must do. But these are works of obedience, not works of merit. Ephesians 2:8-9 is talking about works of merit. In other words, we can’t earn salvation by works of merit, so we can’t boast that we did anything to deserve or earn it. All we did is follow God’s instructions to receive it.
@rh9626 Well, actually, Paul did respond with, "You don't have to do anything" to be saved in the scripture that i referenced (Ephesians 2:8-9). The greek word for works in that passage is ERGON and means any act, deed, or thing we do. Paul also said this in Romans 4... 4 - Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. 5 - But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. That is definitely different than what Peter preached in Acts.
@ if Paul meant that we “don’t have to do anything” to be saved in Ephesians 2:8-9, then he is contradicting his own words in Acts 16:31, where he said the jailer had to believe. And he is contradicting his own salvation story in Acts 22:16 where he recalls that baptism was when his sins were washed away. Again, he is saying we can’t boast that we did anything to earn salvation. If I’m drowning in a lake, and someone throws me a float and a rope to pull me in, I have to grab the float to be saved. Without grabbing the float, I’ll drown. It’s something I must do to be saved. But I can’t boast that I saved myself with my own works by grabbing the float and holding on. The person pulling me in did all the work.
@rh9626 Well, i would prefer to take Paul at his word and then resolve what appears to be a contradiction by acknowledging that Paul was given the revelation of the mystery directly from Jesus which included a new gospel and a new preaching of Jesus that was kept secret since the beginning of the world until it was revealed to Paul. Ephesians 3 Romans 16:25
Acts 2 is Israel. That is what the text says. Their gospel (the gospel of the circumcision) was committed unto Peter. Our gospel (the gospel of the uncircumcision) was committed unto Paul. Galatians 2:7 Please follow Paul. It is Paul that was given the dispensation of the grace of God for us. Ephesians 3
If there is a separate gospel of the "circumcision", meaning a jew and to be baptized for remission of sins, what fraction of a jew must one be before they have to follow it? 20%?, 50%, 99%?
@dsvet Today, there is neither Jew or Gentile. We are all one. That's the distinction of the Body of Christ, which is a new creature through the revelation of the mystery given to Paul. However, before God started forming the Body of Christ, he was dealing with only Israel as a nation, while the Gentiles were cut off.
@@R-H-C-3 if Paul preached a different gospel and there was some sort of baptismal dispensation, why did he disobey the Lord by baptizing gentiles for remission of sins namely Crispus and Gaius??
@@R-H-C-3 you understand there is no jew or gentile AFTER one is in the body of Christ, after one has been immersed in water for remission of sins Galatians 3 26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus..
@@dsvet Of course Paul water baptized before the revelation of the mystery. He later explained that there is only one baptism and it is not into water. It's into Christ body performed by God. 1 Corinthians 12:13 That's why Paul's references to baptism is always "into Christ" instead of into water done "in the name of Christ." There can only be one. That is also why Paul said that Jesus sent him not to baptize. Romans 16:25 says that Paul's gospel and his preaching of Jesus was according to the mystery and was kept secret since the world began. That means his gospel was new.
