It's because cars are now designed with crumple zones to protect passengers. They take the damage so you are less likely to. Back in the Fifties, cars stood up to fender benders a lot better, but a lot more passengers were injured or died.

In this case, it also put OP in the path of oncoming traffic. They were lucky that the bus was able to change lanes and get out of the way.

1:24 Vast amount of people have zero idea of how quickly their vehicle can come to a stop and how hard they can push on the brake pedal in an emergency. Hitting the brake hard enough to initiate ABS at 40mph should be a part of drivers education. Every car has it nowadays and very few people actually know what it feels like.
So many cammers taking the time to upload a video.. but not stop to give their phone number to the victims.

2:54 Running in Texas is the worst idea, DPS will stop at nothing to track you. Once they have a time, location and description; they will search and subpoena any video at nearby locations to find you.
