Hello Rachel from Nashville USA. Thank you for all the excellent and informative videos. You do a beautiful job with details. Thank you for your effort and for sharing your wonderful knowledge. So enjoyable!
A wonderful , wonderful, video for those of us who grow lilies , in pots and gardens . Thank you. Lovely music too . The potted lilies are all up and look in really good health . I didn’t repot this year … it’s not good practice out here . You’re so right … they are the greediest of feeders . I use a Tasmanian seaweed solution every 10 days , a very good quality NZ liquid fertiliser about monthly , and add composted coffee grounds / pine needles , humus , scraped up from a nearby Radiata pine forest , some worm castings to a freshly opened commercial compost. This is only a topdressing , this year . ( Bought compost is no longer like it used to be , but to be honest - I think I get a lot of pleasure fooling around . Just be patient with the speciosum bulbs . Worth the wait . Will be interested to see your greenhouse seedlings in bloom . They look healthy . I don’t know them , but they must be lovely for you to grow them . Next year I’m going to repot using your formula . The commercial potting mix here is poor quality. I guess you grow lilium canadense ( canadensis ? ) Mine are orange . Very ,very , long stemmed lily & quite small blooms . Decided to plant out , in the deeper shade of 2 very late blooming rhododendrons Definitely not a lilium for pots at my place - they have come into their own , with some silver and green leafed asarums & hardy maiden hair ferns planted near , as companions . Keeping fingers crossed for long term success with this . L.longiflorum & formosanum are in plump bud and about to open . Oh dear - a novel , not a note ! We call them ‘ November Lilies ‘ , colder climates call them ‘ Easter Lilies ‘ :)
What a super and enthusiastic comment to get from a true lily lover. I can understand why people who are allergic stay clear of liles but for the rest, what's not to love! Your garden sounds a treat and send you loads of good wishes from rainy Ireland to tree fern-filled New Zealand 🌴🌷🏵️🌺
@@GardeningatDouentza Thank you very much . BTW .. I Love NZ , but I’m actually Australian. We are in a cool climate region ( and our own microclimate further also helps )
I have just discovered your channel searching how to sow blue poppies successfully. I’m in a cooler part of Australia and might be lucky. So far I have one type tubed up and looking happy, great info from one of your videos. Heading into Summer now so will carefully watch these little babies.
Welcome to the channel and I wish you all the best with those poppies. My seedlings ( from the video you saw) are currently facing a winter in the greenhouse
Thanks for the fun update! I always enjoy the greenhouse videos. If my memory serves, your winter blooming South African bulbs should be on display soon 🤞
I hope the speciosum bulbs are OK., some plants can be remarkably resilient. I had bought a Colocasia Tossakan which spent four months in a box (took 2 weeks to get to the US and then sat somewhere in NY for 3 1/2 months). When I got it, it was very desiccated and had I not spent $90 on it, I would probably just have tossed it. I potted it up and watered it gently and to my surprise it started to grow. So fingers crossed on your Lilies.
Hi Rachel, you’re going to have a lot of very nice lily plants to plant in your garden next spring. I like your green house, a great space to keep you warm and dry while you’re working, and keeps your plantlets warm and dry. TTFN
I feel your struggle i plant really small ornamental Japanese maples in pots as they need special care did great during the winter as i had them and contaier warrped in burlap took burlap off then when last frost time was over two weeks later they oerished i cried had to have a few beers and chocolate to make me feel better all that work..nature is beautiful but man sorrowful for gardeners at times..i enjoyed your video found it interesting and informative and i know know im just gonna buy the Lily's bulbs when a good sale comes next year..🌱🇺🇲💙
15 years ago in the USA, a big box retailer sold "Lankon" lily bulbs for super cheap. It was the most goregous lily plant and it thrived in my garden in the pacific northwest. One day we had to move and sell our home. I can not for the life of me find them for sale anywhere. From big box retailers, garden centers and the internet. Who here on Douentza's channel in the US has any for sale or trade? Also whats cool was in Seattle theres an asian grocery store called 99 Ranch. In the produce section they were selling these fresh lily bulbs for cooking. I bought a bunch of them and low and behold they all sprouted with frilly lacey foliage and bright orange no spots flowers. I still have no clue what they were.
Ah no. I did the Riverdance bit in the recent 'new greenhouse' video. Did you miss it? It takes a lot to do the Irish dancing these days, a lot more volume to bounce up😅
Hi Bonny. Yes, I have had problems with lily beetle in the past. I collected them each morning and put them in a bowl of soapy water. Aftér a few years they got the message

Good luck with the blue poppies, I’m also from Melbourne and I don’t think I would ever bother to try!
Your new greenhouse is so perfect for that task. I love repottings, touching dirt is very satisfying ❤❤❤
I totally agree! Thanks, Fernanda.

Hi there. Yes, my veltheimia are coming into bloom now as the nerines and Haemanthus albiflos fade. Maybe I'll make an update soon .
Thanks for another fun video and thanks also for including the compost potting mix recipe.
You are most welcome
Real gardeners don't mid a bit of soil on their face!! Great video.
So true 😄😂
Enjoyed your lily video. Thank you. US, Florida
So glad! Greetings to you in Florida

That sounds like such an ordeal with the colocasia. Hope it ended up compensating you for all that trouble. Yes, fingers crossed for L. speciosum

Oh no. So sorry to hear about your Japanese maples. We've all loved and lost with plants, unfortunately 😔

I think those are a hybrid. The longiflorum x lankongense. I've seen those separately but not as the already done hybrid. Sorry and good luck!
For a moment... (when the music started playing) I thought you were auditioning for "Riverdance" :)
Ah no. I did the Riverdance bit in the recent 'new greenhouse' video. Did you miss it? It takes a lot to do the Irish dancing these days, a lot more volume to bounce up😅
Do you have a problem with the red lily beetle or rabbits eating your lilies. If so what do you do. Bonny
Hi Bonny. Yes, I have had problems with lily beetle in the past. I collected them each morning and put them in a bowl of soapy water. Aftér a few years they got the message
That's what I have been doing also.@@GardeningatDouentza
