Nowadays games at this stage of development have tons of visual polish but aren't playable (and usually pushed to release ;) or EA)

those cave concepts at 1:40-1:53 remind me a bit of the antlion caves/mines from ep2 mostly looking forward to the deformation physics you're talking about, but that air drag feature really got me going because I've been trying to make a realistic working physical plane in garrysmod for nearly 10 years now and I could never do it properly with any addon I found but that air drag looked perfect.. I hope some kind of sandbox mode is possible in this some day..

Ironically it's not far off... this is what happens to half life throughout it's entire existence. Because you put so much time, effort, blood, sweat, and tears into building the game, newer and better tech and newer engines/architectures/techniques come out before anyone has even played your game. Next thing you know you're 85% done and the "next gen" shit has already started releasing. Out of fear of having the game feel old or washed up upon release, dev teams are forced to start over or at least become forced to redo old work with updated models, lighting techniques, and sometimes even bigger things that take more time. Consider this: it may be time for Valve to start taking HL3 seriously. Efficient and powerful ray tracing (not the "garbage" we have now) is about a year away, and highly realistic physics aren't far after that. Along with the new VR techniques being used right now, they have the assets for an insanely beautiful and immersive world. It's exciting.

Check out Boreal Alyph, people actually wanting to make EP3/HL3, these kids just want views and likes and make a new game while claiming its HL related (so it gets downloads and looks good on their portfolio) 2 Years from now nobody remembers Project Borealis and the Boreal Alyph team will have silently been acquired by Valve to actually make HL3, mark my words.

Some of these sounds (like the H.E.V. chargers) are just incredible. I can really see Half Life being brought into the modern era with this atmosphere alone. Cannot wait to see more, when it's ready. 👍
To me, the metro cops and soldiers are moving around far too deathmatchy having standard animations an all, but I bet when they start using cover more often, they will be perfect.

Some constructive criticism, I would recommend keeping the old hev/health charging sounds. They have been a staple of the half life franchise, remaining more or less the same throughout the game. Your replacement is well made, however it doesn't quite feel the same. Also I saw dog in that last vehicle you showed us ;))
i dont think the guns sound punchy enough. they dont sound accurate either. i dont know if this is your aim for the game, but i think this game could use its own unique weapon. maybe something that fits the theme of the location. maybe like a microwave type beam that causes heat damage to nearby enemies. im not joining since im not good at this stuff, but i think it could be good for gameplay and being more open. like half life.
i get the wip stuff but i still feel that theyre far enough in development that the weapons could be much better in terms of feel. i understand if they dont do it, they got bigger things to worry about, but wip doesnt mean that they can dismiss it completely.

They are still alive people, stop freaking out. I know, we are all very impatient. However, One of the devs on the discord did say they are working on the demo for this game. They also said they are laying off on the pr production for the time being until the demo gets released. This spoken by a dev in august, yes, I know that it's now November, but remember, a game isn't like slapping stuff together and calling it a day, it takes time to make this stuff good. I bet moving to a new engine, adding wind physics, destruction physics isn't the easiest of things ever to program. PATIENCE IS KEY.

It's indeed based on the script released by one of the writers, but it was made before Valve started working officially on the game (thing that they never did anyways) so that's just the foundation of what Half-Life: Episode 3's plot was going to be. In the first betas of Half-Life 2 dr. Kleiner was supposed to die at the beginning of the game. If such a change was made to the story at an early stage like that imagine how much different would have been Marc Laidlaw's script if the developing of the game was already finished. I know it's not a problem, but Project Borealis will never be *100%* canon as long as the owners/autors of the fictional universe were the events portrayed by the game take place don't say: "Yes, that would have been the story of HL: Episode 2's sequel if we didn't decided to stop working on it."

@@Malinkadink dude it's not that the companies that valve bought weren't flawed, it's that all of them had unique (for it's time) game mechanics. CS had teams and money, Portal had portals. This particular video showed zero interesting mechanics, I am sorry but being able to move a tone of shit with the gravity gun at once is not interesting. Moreover, from the video it's clear they have a long, and I mean very very long way to go. There is nothing to buy yet. And "getting feet thtough doors" especially for individuals is not what we are talking about here, we are talking about project buyout. The fact is, valve is not interested in HL3 nomatter how much the community longs for it. Wanna know my opinion? Given how many crappy sequels we get nowardays and taking Artifact into account I think it is a good thing. At least one franchise remains unmasacred by money-hungry AAA devs.

I think the graphics so far look good but due to them still being in early development they obviously haven't had a lot of time to refine it. while i do think some things could be changed like possibly the older gun models I think this project could be close to the half life 3 fans want. Before this game was announced I had heard that there were plans to put HL3 in an arctic environment but still I do think this is a good change of scenery which it seems like each game in the series so far has had. personally i think if valve were to buy it theyd probably much prefer to hire the team or pay to publish it and help refine it so the game can be perfect for the community that the team is trying to please. The physics system honestly looks great and so far the game looks way better than the last big community game Hunt Down the Freeman which was an absolute shitshow. In the end this is all based on personal opinion and the chances of valve actually buying the rights to the game or just publishing it are slim but im still going to be hopeful
you seemed to take a lot of damage when infiltrating the combine outpost, are there gonna be difficulty levels like there were in Half life 1 and 2 and episodes 1 and 2? such as easy, normal, hard, and expert?
Over at the subreddit some people cried for lower difficulty and some cried for higher diffuculty, devs said they'll work on both and try to introduce a natural high difficulty setting that doesn't involve just "Enemies now do twice as damage as they should" but rather smarter ones. Can't wait for it!

You walk into a huge cavern and before you can check it out there's a massive combine ambush, possibly this games intro to combine elites or some kinda combine fire unit (the cremator would be fine, but honestly I'd just prefer a reskinned combine soldier with a flamethrower). The fight ends, but a combine radio says reinforcements are coming. You look around the room, and finally notice gonarch in the ice, and to your horror, a fire that lit during the fight is melting it out. Combine reinforcements arrive, gonarch spits one of her huge white cum blasts at them, and a combine APC is melted in front of you. Ensue massive 3 way fight.

Project Borealis continues where HL2 Episode 2 left off, HL Alyx is a prequel to the main story in HL2 and follows Alyx during Combine's conquest of the Earth. Nothing has changed :D

I see a problem there. Once this gets funded by gaming audience Valve might see a reason to shut the Project down due to copyright issues. If they just do that in their freetime, the project just might be able to reach a high enough development level to be able to be accepted by Valve, just as Black Mesa Standalone did x)

UE4 CAN do really nice destruction straight out of the box, but you need to actually be good at your craft to use that. This is why they're going to switch to AMD, as the PhysX layer still requires a bit of actual skill, that they clearly lack. Besides we totally need soft body physics to make this game playable, lmao these kids are a joke.

Valve has been making games for years, released several games last and this year, and will continue to release games, do some reading up on Valve to see what they've been up to, or just SHUT UP with the bs about Valve not making games anymore, this is annoying af and very much not true.
Also if you even remotely cared about the Half Life franchise you would also know why we dont have HL3 yet, because Valve doesnt have any new thing to show, unlike was the case with HL1 and later HL2 (and then to a lesser extend the HL2 episodes) and no VR wont be this new thing either because they dont want to make HL3 VR exclusive.

Some constructive criticism, I would recommend keeping the old hev/health charging sounds. They have been a staple of the half life franchise, remaining more or less the same throughout the game. Your replacement is well made, however it doesn't quite feel the same.

i dont think the guns sound punchy enough. they dont sound accurate either. i dont know if this is your aim for the game, but i think this game could use its own unique weapon. maybe something that fits the theme of the location. maybe like a microwave type beam that causes heat damage to nearby enemies. im not joining since im not good at this stuff, but i think it could be good for gameplay and being more open. like half life.

They are still alive people, stop freaking out. I know, we are all very impatient. However, One of the devs on the discord did say they are working on the demo for this game. They also said they are laying off on the pr production for the time being until the demo gets released. This spoken by a dev in august, yes, I know that it's now November, but remember, a game isn't like slapping stuff together and calling it a day, it takes time to make this stuff good. I bet moving to a new engine, adding wind physics, destruction physics isn't the easiest of things ever to program. PATIENCE IS KEY.

It's indeed based on the script released by one of the writers, but it was made before Valve started working officially on the game (thing that they never did anyways) so that's just the foundation of what Half-Life: Episode 3's plot was going to be.
In the first betas of Half-Life 2 dr. Kleiner was supposed to die at the beginning of the game. If such a change was made to the story at an early stage like that imagine how much different would have been Marc Laidlaw's script if the developing of the game was already finished.
I know it's not a problem, but Project Borealis will never be *100%* canon as long as the owners/autors of the fictional universe were the events portrayed by the game take place don't say: "Yes, that would have been the story of HL: Episode 2's sequel if we didn't decided to stop working on it."

@@Malinkadink dude it's not that the companies that valve bought weren't flawed, it's that all of them had unique (for it's time) game mechanics. CS had teams and money, Portal had portals. This particular video showed zero interesting mechanics, I am sorry but being able to move a tone of shit with the gravity gun at once is not interesting. Moreover, from the video it's clear they have a long, and I mean very very long way to go. There is nothing to buy yet. And "getting feet thtough doors" especially for individuals is not what we are talking about here, we are talking about project buyout.
The fact is, valve is not interested in HL3 nomatter how much the community longs for it. Wanna know my opinion? Given how many crappy sequels we get nowardays and taking Artifact into account I think it is a good thing. At least one franchise remains unmasacred by money-hungry AAA devs.

I think the graphics so far look good but due to them still being in early development they obviously haven't had a lot of time to refine it. while i do think some things could be changed like possibly the older gun models I think this project could be close to the half life 3 fans want. Before this game was announced I had heard that there were plans to put HL3 in an arctic environment but still I do think this is a good change of scenery which it seems like each game in the series so far has had. personally i think if valve were to buy it theyd probably much prefer to hire the team or pay to publish it and help refine it so the game can be perfect for the community that the team is trying to please. The physics system honestly looks great and so far the game looks way better than the last big community game Hunt Down the Freeman which was an absolute shitshow. In the end this is all based on personal opinion and the chances of valve actually buying the rights to the game or just publishing it are slim but im still going to be hopeful

you seemed to take a lot of damage when infiltrating the combine outpost, are there gonna be difficulty levels like there were in Half life 1 and 2 and episodes 1 and 2? such as easy, normal, hard, and expert?
Over at the subreddit some people cried for lower difficulty and some cried for higher diffuculty, devs said they'll work on both and try to introduce a natural high difficulty setting that doesn't involve just "Enemies now do twice as damage as they should" but rather smarter ones. Can't wait for it!

You walk into a huge cavern and before you can check it out there's a massive combine ambush, possibly this games intro to combine elites or some kinda combine fire unit (the cremator would be fine, but honestly I'd just prefer a reskinned combine soldier with a flamethrower). The fight ends, but a combine radio says reinforcements are coming. You look around the room, and finally notice gonarch in the ice, and to your horror, a fire that lit during the fight is melting it out. Combine reinforcements arrive, gonarch spits one of her huge white cum blasts at them, and a combine APC is melted in front of you. Ensue massive 3 way fight.
Imagine a gonarch or a gargantua (I really want to see these guys again) chasing you through Arctic tunnels

Project Borealis continues where HL2 Episode 2 left off, HL Alyx is a prequel to the main story in HL2 and follows Alyx during Combine's conquest of the Earth. Nothing has changed :D

I see a problem there. Once this gets funded by gaming audience Valve might see a reason to shut the Project down due to copyright issues. If they just do that in their freetime, the project just might be able to reach a high enough development level to be able to be accepted by Valve, just as Black Mesa Standalone did x)
