    In today's video, I give you my top theory on keeping your eyes up while dribbling! This basketball myth is something that has circulated through every level of basketball for many years. However, most people think that by dropping your eyes you won’t have the ability to see the floor. When we look at all the top guards in the NBA think of guys like Kyrie Irving, Stephen Curry, and Chris Paul. All of these top talents in the NBA use their peripheral vision to find open teammates and run the offense. This secret is so helpful because when you start to use your dominant vision to be your on ball defender the entire court opens up. This simple basketball scoring moves are super easy to implement for players at every level. By implementing these dribbling moves into your game you can almost immediately skyrocket your shooting, scoring, and your overall basketball skill level! These are moves that we see the top NBA point guards use regularly guys like Kyrie Irving, Russell Westbrook, and Chris Paul!
    My first pro level drill to really help you hone in on having better vision on the basketball court is the three come drill. This basketball drill will not only help you develop a much tighter handle but it will also help you in terms of your overall court vision and becoming a better basketball player overall. Make sure to implement these moves into your basketball workouts today!
    As always make sure you are paying close attention to these basketball scoring tips so when the time comes you can really expand your game to the next level! Watch the video all the way through and implement these scoring tips and dribbling drills into your game today!

    I’m so glad he explained how the elite ball handlers use peripheral vision to scan the floor and their main vision to READ YOUR DEFENDER. Good ball handlers know that reading your defender can set up your defender to fall for even the simplest dribble moves such as a crossover or in and out move.

    The greatest passers and ball handlers know that defenders read eyes so u cant tell the story of what u gonna do every single moment of every play.

    You link a lot of free workouts. Do you have a collection of everything? I would like something including lifts and cardio to improve also. I have major problems with balance and I want to see some post up drills and tips too, but I haven't seen it yet.

    A good time my coach gave me is to look at your defenders stomach. Not only your defender but the person you defending because they can try to trick you by going the other way than the other. But they never move there stomach and you can still see their feet.

    Hey I been watching a while and I’ve seen a lot of change in my game but when ever I go to do a cross over I look awkward and stiff and not very convincing I can only get past them by using fast tight handles but I want to be able to do loose crossovers without looking awkward will this come with practice because I’ve only been playing again for about 2 months

    Some good points here but pronunciation is a bit off here. Peripheral vision develops between the ages of 3-6. Then steadily increases from 8-9 years of age until adulthood. So be mindful of being too harsh with developing peripheral vision with very young juniors.

    If any coach or trainer has said keep your head up while dribbling and didn't mean you can't be looking at the ball while dribbling they are either a terrible coach or simply not communicating well

    This is something I figured out years ago. It really catches defenders off guard at a high rate when creating to give a no-look pass on a kick out or a dish off under the paint.

    Love you coach.. but you have a tendency to misrepresent coaches intention to build up the interest in your videos. You are talented enough to make your point without claiming that 'most coaches' are talking about 'literally' having your eyes up. Most times coaches are telling players to have 'heads up' because those particular players are lacking court awareness and missing wide open opportunities. Those players are not using their peripheral vision (yet).. and often get stuck in 'tunnel vision' where the focus on the floor or solely on the player guarding them.. which is normal for developing players. 'Heads Up' or 'Eyes Up' might be a bit to generic a term.. and certainly some coached might exaggerate the exercise to make a point. But overall... coaches are asking for court awareness when they say 'heads up'. Awareness in a group sport is a major key to the team's success. Developing players (and coaches) need to keep finding that balance between individual focus and court awareness. Alternating between the two... having both 'tools'... makes for better players.

    • @ShotMechanics
      @ShotMechanics  5 років тому +1

      I get what you're saying and while many coaches do feel think that way there is a massssssive contingent of coaches that don't really know what they're teaching. It's not all, but quite a few... The WHY is what most are missing, it sounds like you're personally right on the money but unfortunately, I can't say the same for the majority. I wish I had a dollar for every time I saw a coach force their players "eyes up" or make a huge deal about it while sacrificing feel and explosiveness, if that was the case I wouldn't have to make UA-cam vids ;)

      @@ShotMechanics show me a pure point guard who has his head down in the league past or present? head up, chin up, eyes up and you can see everything i always say :/ and like @nothern iggy said the coaches comments don't work well for anyone players or coaches. reason why is if a player is trying to get more playing time then comes with this as argument then player will have even more time to watch your videos if you get my drift because it the playing time is already short then this is not a good look overall

    • @jdutch
      @jdutch 2 роки тому

      my son is going thru this with his coach right now. he is not looking at ball. but he head tends to drift down on the drive. I see many pro and college after do the same. the coaches are not articulating well. the point of this video is spot on. head up to see field but if you drift down but use vision to see still see wide view is fine and common. if head is down and you don't see the defender to your side and have TO that's a problem. or if you have have down and do. it see open guy is a problem. But on a drive it's natural. coaches not explaining properly and not teaching properly.

  • @elguero9279

    All the examples you showed basically showed the opposite of your point. All those clips those guys had their eyes up scanning the floor. Coaches don't want kids looking at their own hand or the ball as it bounces. They're not telling kids to look up at the ceiling. They're telling them to do exactly what you showed the pros doing. Head up, not staring at your handles so that you are able to read the floor, obviously peripheral is a part of vision. I think you're arguing with a hypothetical coach here who doesn't exist.
