- ADIDAS ADIZERO PRIMEX STRUNG - THE BEST SHOE OF 2022? - 100 MILE RUNNERS REVIEW | EDDBUD
I have enjoyed all the 100 miles or 160km in the PRIMEX STRUNG. The upper is insanely good and should be experienced if you are able.
A worthy replacement to the first version of the shoe with a midsole to unmatched by any other shoe. The upper and outsole make for a recipe of impeccable performance and enjoyment making for the best shoe i have ever reviewed.
This is a shoe i purchased with my own cash, my humble opinions as always.
Has this one worked out for you so far in 2022 or are you planning to pick it up soon?

Midsole discussion was spot on! Cheers edd!
I wore mine for a 5k time trial today and, while you’re quite right that it’s not really the use case for this shoe, they worked wonderfully. It’s too much shoe for a 5k, but they are still so much fun, which is why I chose them.
Good for 5k easy recovery 👍🏼
Finally able to snag this shoe today for half price!!! Been a couple months trying to get it at discount and today was my lucky day! So excited to get it!!!!
Edd, bought this on the strength of your initial review. Found a discount that brought it down to 190 ECs. I've gotta be honest, I think you can use this shoe for everything! Ditch the rotations. Maybe keep a racey shoe. Worth every penny especially if you don't need owt else. Thanks for the review, man!
I fully agree with your assessments and scoring of this amazing shoe, Ed. With all the deals I could find for this shoe here in the US, I've hoarded four pairs and have logged over 200 miles in little over a month with my PXS "sub-rotation". Haha. The combination of the exhilarating ride, superb comfort, maximum protection for your feet and legs, grip/traction, and an indescribable fun factor, I have to say that this is definitely the best running shoe of the year and probably the best ever although it isn't meant to be a racer. I'm always excited when I sit down to lace up this shoe and go for a 10+ mile run - any less would leave me panting for more!
You're a braver man than I am sir, I commend you. Ran in all weather, but when the snow dropped here in Berkshire, I am ashamed to say I was too scared and took out the more trail v2s from new balance
Most exciting shoe of the year? Looks like it
Yes
Edd thank you so much for the musical interlude , just spent most of the evening watching this band in concert( Khruangbin) at Best Kept Secret festival , no secret any more . RUN EDD RUN great video as always
What a band. Superb music
Great year from Adidas
Love this shoe! Your review was spot on! Just a fun ride.
Yes it’s hard to not wear it day after day!
Love PrimeX strung, so that Iam thinking about running the Next marathon in them. Iam in doubt between Alphafly 2 (safer and more stable shoe) and Strung (with much more pleasant ride). Congrats on one more amazing video Edd!
excellent review
Picked up these on 50% discount, absolutely the best shoes I've worn this year. I would love a little bit more if the laces were slightly premium quality and if adios 6/7 lockdown could be achieved.
If they come available again for a great discount, I would love trying them out. But could wait for v2 since they looked to change the shape of the midsole
Love this shoe, over 100 miles and amazing. I'll say after seeing the discounts this year on shoes during the holiday sales, I'll wait till this time next year before buying any more expensive super shoes unless I can get a super steep discount.
Thanks for the review, these will be my next show. You didn't have to say very much to tip the scales for me
Superb shoe. One of the best
Great review Edd! Hit the nail on the head indeed. Just hit over 50 miles on mine. Getting better everytime I strap them on. Exactly like the V1s. Just like a McDonalds commercial, "I lovin it!" 😃. Take care and stay safe and healthy 👍
Glad they are working out so well
I wish 2023 sees a wider heel design for prime X strung given the 50mm stack. And also hope we get the strung upper on adios pro 3.
Easily my favorite shoe this year… got new personal bests on it without even trying too hard. And there is no price for feeling so refreshed even after the stronger efforts. A winner all around!
It’s worth it. It’s costly but does have some extra than other shoes
First? Starting to love mine Ed, Long run shoe cruiser
🥉
Just went for my first run in the Prime X Strung… funnest shoe I’ve run in for a long while. Great review. Makes me want to run again and again. :)
On pure fun nothing comes close!
Love the channel mate. Would love a vs between this and aaa Pro 3
Pro 3 is more stable for sure. Better round corners at top pace
Price is definitely a big factor. Putting on wish list and hoping for a big Christmas discount.
Beautiful review. I've got these shoes based on your reviews. This shoe just got this alure. The 3D knit actually works superbly, it's the future we are looking at here It is really something else. These shoes are expensive but putting it in perspective they are amazing and they will last. This is my impression with adidas in general, the make quality shoes that will stand the test of time.
Great to hear!
Best shoe ever! AND I really feel they did make the stack mini mini little lower and somewhat softer compared to the originals Prime x . I just feel the stability improvements can’t be just cause of the upper . I own both and feel the mid is different just can’t point out exactly where and what . Cheers and great video as always 💪🏻🙏🏻☀️
Edd. Honestly. That’s a fine looking shoe. But 2 weeks ago I picked up another pair of the invincible 2 for what equals to around 45 British EC. You gotta help me figuring out, how I can ever justify paying 230ish BEC for a shoe like that. No matter how fun that might be, I simply can’t see the logic, if there ever was one :) thanks for the review, best regards from Copenhagen
Edd, based on your Str(o)ng review I’ve just ordered for 150 US EC and half size down because the mens Pro 3 was baggy for me, and mens sizes-hard to predict. I agree with you on the Adios 6 and 7, so I’m trusting you on this one. You pushed me over the edge, Edd. The joy factor 3/3.🎄
Superb shoe. You won’t be disappointed
How did you find them half a size down?
I just bought a pair for £84 in Austria 🇦🇹 I had a Quick Look at your review & the rest is history now 😊
Superb shoe! At that price it’s a buy on sight!
I get the feeling that even though you've reached 100 miles, you might not be retiring this one for a while!
Finally had a bit of rain up here which should of cleared most of the snow/ice off the roads. I had a feeling it might happen today, but I wasn't receiving divine messages, I listened to the weather forecast! 🌧
I fear Cornwall fishing trip conditions tomorrow. 🌧🤣
@@EDDBUD No salmon though!? 🤣
I didn’t really like this shoe the first couple times I used them. Felt unstable and took me a few times to figure out the lockdown without over tightening the laces. Now that I’ve gotten used to them, they are my favorite shoe by far.
Glad they are hitting the spot Nathan
I agree... they felt scary to wear at first... I guess it's a bit like learning to run in high heels, only a bit easier 🤣
Absolutely love mine and find the stability much better than the Prime X. Trouble is I enjoy them so much, all my other trainers are gathering dust and a ‘rotation’ is none existent 😂
I’m a 47 year old, 200lb runner doing a minimum of 40km a week and these keep my legs fresh as a daisy 🙌🏻
I hear you Mark. Makes everything else a bit surplus to requirements!
Finally got mine at a very good price £135. But haven't had any chance to use them yet. I'm more excited to use the puma nitro 2s. My first puma running shoes and the nitro elite midsole looks and feels promising.
Just finished my first 1/2 marathon in this cruiser at a 11:00/mile pace - great shoe for this 60+ year old runner! Legs feel great and ready for more miles. Only paid $150 for them from Adidas here in the states. Thx for the tip Ed! Say hi to Beast for me 😸
Glad to hear it. I’m hoping will be same for me-helps to hear how other age groupers get on with it! Cheers!
They really save the legs! 🐈⬛
Was able to score a pair for $105 at my local Adidas store!!
! Amazing deal!
Thanks!
Barry from OldManRunner used them for a virtual marathon not so long ago, and, like you, found them very comfortable, though after many kms, a little firm for his liking. However at around 18km he noticed some pain in the right ankle which slowed him down for the rest of the race! After the race he noticed that the right shoe was actually wobbly, that either the side of the heel had partly collapsed or maybe it had never been straight in the first place and he just hadn't noticed... of course he sent them back! Well, just a bad luck story I guess, as is possible with any purchase!
Blimey. Can’t say I would race in these. Just better lighter options for that.
Just bought them for 100 Earth Money (€). So hyped.🎉
Great price for a great shoe
Out in mine tomorrow 👍🏻 only thing that concerns me is the right shoe behind looks like it has more stack height!
Weird! They the same size?!
@@EDDBUD yeah! done about 30 miles in them. But the right shoe looks a good bit higher 😂 only noticed the other day. Try putting yours on a flat surface and having a look?
Just picked these up for £80, gotta be worth a try even to see if they’ll suit me!
For that price absolutely!
Also, feeling a bit gutted as I’m a mild overpronator… would have loved to pick this up in 6 months at discount but hearing your advice perhaps I won’t… sad times
Love your reviews. Would it be appropriate to wear these as a workhorse daily trainer? I don't trend to run in plated shoes besides Parkrun racing but your review suggests they are good (and fun!) for pretty much everything. Or should I opt for the Asics Novablast 4 or Superblast as a better daily option? Thanks in advance for any guidance
Might be a little too tall and clunky for a daily. The stack is considerable.
Thanks@@EDDBUD - I adore the design but am struggling to understand how they are best deployed. I'd want to get significant wear out of them! Many thanks
I'm 47, 5'11", 220 lbs, casual runner, I run a 5K in 27-29 minutes. With me not being that quick would that make the Strung any less a viable option? My 'effort' paces are Easy day paces for many but an 8 min mile is an 8 min mile, regardless of individual effort right?
This is probably the highest score that you have ever given, and I think it is a deserving shoe.
However, I am still of the opinion that I don't necessarily need this shoe. Why? I think feeling the fatigue on long runs is part of the adaptation that body has to go through. It is part of the training. By making "training" miles easier you might be depriving yourself some of the long run benefits.
However, I do see the use case for elites and sub-elites that has a lot more time for stacking up running miles. Those that are running 80, 100, 120 miles a week and those that have double sessions daily can fit this shoe in their training. I am not even close.
Have you seen what believe in the run say about the v2 ,they say it's like a spring in the shoe ,so I think I'll wait 😃
People said that about the alphafly also. They didn’t like the primex originally and said it wasn’t ok for them after about 7 miles.
Just bought these for 132EUR, holding back and waiting for a discount really paid off🥳
Well done for holding out!
Highest score ever. *WOW!* 😮
My pair of OG is now 200 miles away for 1000 miles.
The outsole and midsole feel like they haven't changed. The outsole rubber isn't even that used.
The upper has visible wear but is holding strong. The Strung might be even sturdier in that aspect.
I've seen photos of the Vaporfly after 1500km and I can tell you it's holding way better.
Superb value! What a shoe
I was able to get by in sizing with the OG but needed to go half size down for the best fit in the Strung.
True to size for me
A 2.9 score in value for a very expensive shoe. We don't have to agree on everything, I totally understand that people have different opinions. I just think your score is quite amazing.
Is that the best value shoe of 2022 then? I personally think there are some better deals.
I gave my reasons. No wear. Brilliant ride and enjoyment. Why is that amazing?
First run i done was fine but second run i had to stop due to heel rub on my right foot. Not sure if i need to put on thicker socks?
Hi Edd, how does this compare with the previous Prime X version? I find the green colorway Prime X is much more appealing than the the strung one
The upper on the strung is much better from a stability perspective.
As Shakin' Stevens once said; "lovely stuff"
Much appreciated super thanks 👍🏼👊
@@EDDBUD much deserved! Really enjoying the videos you've been putting out lately. A superb blend of informative and entertaining. Keep up the good work
Great review, Edd! Based on your previous review, I picked a pair up (managed to get 20% off, which helped), and I've done about 150miles in them. I agree with every word 👍 It really is a quality shoe. They look as good as new! I've mainly been using them for easy & tempo runs & it's an absolute monster. Pleasure to run in them 👏
Only problem I'm having is some rubbing on the heel as the stitching is starting to become proud.
Overall love the shoe.. Compared to the Alphafly 2 it is more of a likeable shoe I want to run in every day.
Really like it on the treadmill as well 👍
On the treadmill?! I’ve used the Puma Velocity 2, but the X? Did you hang on? Impressive.
@@laurainthehaute918 it's great on the treadmill... Also can do intervals in them that way 👍
When you gonna review "Pot headed pixies" by Gong?
Nabbed a pair today for $150 US earth credits, Santa Claus is apparently a three stripe man.
🤣👍🏼
I had to go whole size down in prime x strung as compared to prime x, the upper was too voluminous my feet was swimming in my adidas UK9.
The shoes of the year 2022, are the Puma Deviate Nitro 2. In terms of price and quality, they are the best. Here in Germany, the Prime X costs 250-300 euros, Puma Deviate Nitro 2, I bought them for 150 euros, from Sportcheck.
Ed, I got a pair for $170 US. A little disappointed but still great. Not as soft as the celermesh version. But took the celermesh on a run, 105 mile mark and it bottomed out. Oh well. Still a great shoe. Might be good rhat not as soft. Maybe more stable, last longer.
They got better for me over time
Looking for a Shoe for Long Runs with HMP/MP Parts. Do you think the Prime X would fit?
Any other recommendations?
It absolutely lowers heart rate based on marathon pace.
I've just bit the bullet and ordered a pair! I'm sending back the Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro as they were just a disaster. I hope they work for me because I had the OG version and had to sell them as they were just too unstable for me, I'm currently praying to the running gods.
The strung is darn good shoe, hope it works for you
Hi! How is sizing between the OG, the Strung and the Adios Pro 2? The OG have very good sales right now on eBay
Feels pretty similar to me in terms of the sizing.
Only part I would disagree about is the outsole score... 3/3! That outsole does not wear down!
I was one of those lucky ducks to pick them up for $150. I’ve been ill since they arrived but I can’t wait to take them out.
Do you reckon they’d get a 100% score at $150?
Hope you feel better 👍🏼👊
Prime X Strung:
My absolute go to when knees feel a bit sore. Fun and durable, too.
Love 'em.
I hear you on that one Steve
If those shoes cost $150, it's definitely this year's shoes!
Ed, you have not had yourself or heard of anyone having a problem with the left shoe basically having supination have you? Mine does it, and I found a review here on youtube where another guy has the same exact problem with the left shoe also.
No issues on mine at all. Best shoe for years
Hi, in short I am after some sizing info comparing the toe box of the gel nimbus 25 vs the strung?
I can't buy good shoes locally where I live in Australia, I can only order them online especially in my size. I am new to running, I have a back injury from power lifting like 12 years ago which makes running difficult. I have been using ultraboosts for the last several years for walking but I have recently started running again but the ultraboosts didn't give me enough cushioning at the mid to front foot as I am a mid/front foot striker. I am a size 13 in ultraboosts but they are a fairly snug fit but the upper is nice and soft so not an issue. I bought a pair of asics gel nimbus 25s in a size 13, the forefoot mid sole is much nicer but it's crushing my toes, there isn't enough room in the toe box. I am keen to purchase some strung 2's as strung v1s don't exist in Australia anymore, they have been sold out everywhere for months. I won't be able to try them on before I buy them and sending them back is very problematic so these asic's will just get thrown in the bin. Size 13.5 doesn't exist in Aus, Adidas just don't import them in that size so I have to buy size 14 but I am worried that size 14 may be a bit too large but on the other hand if the size 13s are too small that would be worse. I really don't care about the extra weight of the strung 2 as I am just a casual runner and I care way more about my back being able to handle the impact than the performance of the shoe. I understand that the strung v1 isn't the strung v2 but I am hoping the sizing will be very similar.
The strung is quite roomy compared to the nimbus. A few people went down a half size infact.
@@EDDBUD good to know. Thanks.
Hi, I follow you for a year now I find your videos very informative and funny! One suggestion, could you pls add your oppinion when reviewing on how many miles or in my case km shoe will last..? What you think about this particular model how much they will last?🤔 About US discount price, my sister bought them at Black Friday for me and she told me that US Adidas site prices are stated without tax which you pay when checking out, so you should add tax in addition when taking into account final price. In EU tax is included on Adidas sites, not sure for UK.
I don’t tend to give durability predictions. Every single runner is different with a foot strike pattern all their own. As such a number means very little
@@EDDBUD The reason I have suggested / asked is that I allready have run with first Prime X model for 400miles - 650km and I don't know if it is enough or I can do more? I know it is a bit unusual request but could I send you pictures via e-mail to give me your opinion, it would be a world to me so I can form opinion for next pair..
Much appreciated!
p.s. I took the liberty and in the meantime sent you a mail!🤝
This is my first pair of Adidas, and I must say I'm Loving it, little scary round the corners, but I've used it on easy, and mile repeats, and its been great on icey roads and pavements, I'm thinking about getting another pair of addidas, any suggestions 🤔 😁
Try the sen 8. Lower stack but still awesome.
Brilliant, thank you, I was actually looking at them after the video review you did of them, I'll try and find a deal 👌
Kreunbhin? World music band out of Houston TX? Will give a listen now.
Superb music. They really are special
Running with these is like driving an Mercedes S-klass
How is the fit compared to Saucony Speed? Same width in the midfoot and toebox? Sizing?
Toebox is roomy but it’s more the material. Similar fit but I find the upper more containing.
@@EDDBUD Really? Saucony Speed runs short and I heard prime x runs long
@@thespecialone7632 Nope. My Speed 3 ran longer than my Strung. I went TTS in my STRUNG.
G'day Edd....did you half size down in these by any chance?
I found them true to size. But others say a half down
@@EDDBUD ...thanks Edd,I tend to run stockless so I will try the half size down.
Edd,are these really worth an extra £100. Plus over the regular Prime X?
I know the originals are discounted. Not a 100 difference though
@@EDDBUD but are they that much better?
Is that your highest sore ever? I need a pair!
Yes top score ever!
Edd... should I just get them? I've only used Boston 10's... will it be a drastic difference?
Yes it’s a massively different ride.
@@EDDBUD Are the strung versions different to the other Adizero prime X shoes?
@@tmj-vx6dg Same midsole and outsole. The upper is drastically better though in lockdown and fit.
Only 30 miles in to my Prime X adventures but loving it so far. I'm now planningn to use for Brighton Marathon but heard there's a few very cambered roads that might not be suitable for the X. Ed, or anyone else, any information? Many thanks!
It’s a bit bumpy here and there. The seafront road is quite angled!
@@EDDBUD thanks Ed. I might reconsider then.
@@EDDBUDthanks for this Ed, think you certainly saved me a DNF and more pain in the Marathon. Those cambered roads on the seafront in Brighton are like running on a wall of death. My knees are in pieces today 😂
You're only just now getting 100 miles in them?! I thought it was months ago!
I know £230 is crazy money but lets face it after that review its probably worth it i'd say.
For pure usability and durability it’s holding up well
What makes these better than bog standard Prime X?
Much better upper. More stable due to the upper fit and lockdown
Really wanted to try this shoe but it's still selling at a price for almost 2.5 times of a pair of vapourfly in my area. 😂
Wonder how many will get the buttery biscuit base reference???
Only the chosen few 🍰
Doesn’t that insane stack height make it super unstable?
Quite unstable indeed but most people don't mind apparently, not a fan personally!
No issues for me.
I want, but not forking out that much cash.
Wait for a discount comes up
Can you make a video about hyperpronation shoes?
Ones which make you over pronate?!
@@EDDBUD oh my god no! 🤣
You cant run slow in these ones. Even if you want to go slow and easy your time is much faster than in other shoes
I found it was great in terms of pace ranges
Winner of the "Least shocking Video of the Channel" award as voted by EDDBUD fans 😂
🤣
I succumbed to buying a pair and they are already on ebay :-( I found them so unstable compared to the Pro 3's and just couldn't see me getting used to them. Shame as they look awesome but just way too unstable for my dodgy ankle. I could see my doing an injury on a corner in them. Pro 3's are the max stack for me.
Sad you couldn’t get them working .dynamite for me.
@@EDDBUD yes gutted as they are super comfortable but had a weaker ankle since an op a few years ago so the rolling is just too risky for me. Just beyond stable for me. Otherwise an amazing show for sure. Got some sensible Boston 12’s for daily and they are pretty good them Pro 3’s for when I get any to spice things up.
Is this the highest score ever given?
Yes I think it is!
Seen these on sale for £129.....worth the money?
Yes. Where did you see them?! Uk?
@@EDDBUD yes on one of the websites but did have a discount code, I'll have to double check which website it was
@@markhill8590 yes please!
how is the size compared to takumi sen 8?
Sen is more constructive. This isn’t as close in the arch.
@@EDDBUD So size down half a size?
Hi
Hello 🤗
🥈
Edd, or is that Optimus Primex Strung?. I thought your review was of the high Autobot standard us Decepticons have become accustomed to. Apologies my Lord, but I cant say paying that money is just too much, its not a race shoe or all rounder like the Endorphin 3, which is less in cost, so discounts aside, the shoe is another expensive moneymaker for the Adidas Mega Corp coffers
Running shoes in disguise
@@EDDBUD Ha yeah, Nike and Adidas are Decepticoning us even though these are truly fantastic works of engineering, they cant justify these ludicrous out of world prices.
😮😮😮 Yet still not clear on it's best use. Not a racing shoe yet plated (rods). Not sure is a daily shoe for he same reason. Puzzling.
Anything aside from British racing on uk roads. Full of potholes.
Yo
🥇
Ah don’t - I want this shoe 😢😂.
🤣👍🏼
Tireless
Should I go for these or the Boston 12s………sounds like these could be a good daily. HELP 😂
Boston is that bit more versatile.
