I don't think "The Rock" ruined the DCEU, it wasn't really anything good to begin with. It was pushed out too fast without a good plan and unified vision behind it. I liked the art style mostly, I watched a few youtubers play it 100%, yeah the gameplay sucks and the backgrounds don't show what you can stand, walk and etc but if it had more time to brew I'm sure it would have been fine. Especially knowing what platforms is what, and giving hints how to do things. It's kinda like the mario bros movie, the first one, it's bad yes but it's so bad it's good.
It's not really about fake nostalgia, but capitalizing on memes and camp. It's the same premise that drove the making of the Cheetahmen 2 cartridge or the remake of Plumbers Don't Wear Ties. There's an audience that likes campy stuff and it will sell to them.
