Based on the popular web series, Drunk History is the liquored-up narration of our nation's history. Booze helps bring out the truth. It's just that sometimes the truth is a little incoherent.

The more I read about Marilyn Monroe, the more I realise what an amazing woman is being labeled in history as nothing more than a sex doll.
The fate of most gorgeous women in history. They’re either sexual objects that only contributed to history through their sexual exploits or sexual deviants that caused the downfall of empires and great men, blah blah blah. Monroe was an amazing woman.
Golden Age Hollywood stars are so heavily groomed that they end up not being themselves but a product. Monroe and Judy were extreme tragic cases. Monroe was more than a sex symbol and Judy was more than a belter (singer who can belt out high notes for a long periods of times). Gay/ Bi and black entertainers suffered greatly as well, creating false narratives to appeal to a white conservative audience.
You should watch the documentary "Bombshell" about Hedy Lamarr. She was a gorgeous genius, too, and an amazing inventor. 💜
@@FreyaGem I haven't seen that video, but I've read about her inventions. Amazing that we might not have wifi and Bluetooth without her innovations. I'll check out this documentary too, thanks.
Bruh. True. When I was a teenager my friend was in love with Marilyn Monroe, and I was like "literally all she did was make a poor outfit choice during windy weather one time"
But now I'm researching more about her coz she sounds sooooo much more interesting and complex than she's made out to be
The way that Gabourey lip synced along to every syllable of Tymberlee's drunk scatting....
it was the best lmfao
I love seeing it when the actors are such good sports about the absurdity.
Ella was a Taurus. Gabby is a Taurus. It's Kismet. ♉ 💖
i’m literally crying bc of it
I was cracking up...Too funny🤣😂
I can't wait to see how drunk history will cover covid one day
It would last a whole season lol
Drunker than eveeeeer!!
They would just drink until they pass out. No talking.
pretty sure there is no amount of alcohol that can make anything more incomprehensible and tragicomic than the current administration.
It’s literally so insane right now it feels like a bunch of drunk people are creating this history that’s happening
The way they looked at the camera when the narrator struggled saying, "Monroe"...😅🤣😂😅😆
I loved that 😂
That was soo "The Office" right lolol
I was HOLLERING with laughter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was the best part 🤣🤣🤣 I was literally getting teary eyed and then that happened 🤣😂🤣
That was Gold!!
Yeah, I’m starting to think some of the other narrators weren’t drunk enough 😆
Right! And nottthiiing is worse than when they fake being super drunk.
IKR? I need total commitment to the DRUNKNESS. Tymberlee was in it to win!😂😂
This lady has set the bar pretty high for the ones following 😂
She wasn't super drunk...she was TURNT
Or can reaalllllly hold their liquor.
The narrator is so funny. Black women rarely ever get to be this drunk for comedy without being disrespected or dismissed. Sis is a legend
And we're from the same hometown so she has mad respect from me😂
@@quidditch1991 who is she??
Brianna Vasquez It’s Tymberlee Hill! I love her in “The Hotwives if Orlando” on HULU.
@@mzkent thank you!!
right being a drunk comedic but also an intellectual to balance it out
Marilyn never let racism stop her from making friends and was good friends with Eartha Kitt, Dorothy Dandridge, and Ella Fitzgerald to name a few
"In this moment that Marilyn helps Ella, she frees them both."
Drinks words, sober thoughts.
Yeah, that gave me chills, such a powerful phrase.
Norma Jean deserved a better world where she was happy and free. Stories like these will forever make me cry that nobody loved her enough to ride for her the way she rode for others. A blessed angel, Norma Jean was too good for this world.
1st time ever I'm crying watching "Drunk History"...
The untold part of the story is the fact, that despite being eventually allowed to perform at Mocambo, Ella as a black person still couldn't use the main door of the club as they were only for the white. So Marylin showed up every day a bit earlier to walk Ella through the main entrance. MM did more for black people at that time than any other privileged white person in the USA and that was probably the best role she ever played.
Marilyn was just too good for this world.
That's one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard
Considering what happened to Jean Seberg...this puts a new spin on Monroe's "suicide".
Thanks for sharing that i didnt know ❤
Ella was one of a kind. Noone sang like her ever.
Facts
Yes! Her and Billie Holiday were god tier songstresses!
Yeeeeeeaaaap
@Kasia sure! Different tastes and preferences are completely valid, still, the talent is objectively evident isn't? :)
@Kasia to each his own
This was interesting, I wouldn't mind hearing more Drunk Histories of Friendships like this.
They did one on Eleanor Roosevelt and a ww2 Soviet lady war hero that was good.
Spanish Ramon How exactly was she acting ratchet? I’m confused?
@@Kaddywompous I saw that, it was quite good!
Why does the host look so judgey to the drunks. I've seen most seasons and he seems to be worse. It's like he's about to call an intervention.
@Spanish Ramon have you even watched any other Drunk History?
I think Marilyn Monroe using her white privilege and class status as a tool to help Ella Fitzgerald become rightfully famous is one of my favorite things about the 20th century.
I agree
And she profited nothing from it so you know it was genuine gotta love it
You heard about the Inuyasha sequel series coming?
FACTS
로미Romy KAGOME!!!!!!
😂Marilyn had to take a drink when the narrator couldn't get her name right... Priceless. Love this show.
Samantha Arrington I literally fell off of my chair cracking up at that
The actors lip syncing was so freaking hilarious
That aesthetic of Marilyn laying on the floor listening to Ella on her headphones is so beautiful
People used to listen to music like that. I did, with my Discman and the CD liner notes in front of me. Maybe people still do...I suspect they don't. But maybe they do. I hope so.
Sweet story, but the narrator must have had one hell of a hangover 😄
In a world full of Karens'...be a Marylin.
I like this
Hmmm 🤔 I like that!! YES!! LET US UPLIFT.EACH OTHER IN THE NAME OF SISTERHOOD..CAUSE both black and white men ain't shit..lol

I watched that part 3 times and couldn't stop laughing.
Always love Gabourey Sidibe's acting. She's a really great actress.
Me too, I love her.
She should won that oscar!
She is, but she looks nothing like Ella Fitzgerald.
@@theTruthSeekerishere drunk history is not known for their accuracy, anyway
Truth B Told
Yep, that’s true. But the other actress looks nothing like Marilyn Monroe, either.
ok but can we also appreciate Marilyn's vocal coach like he made this wholesome friendship happen
And that’s on using your white privilege for the benefit of those who don’t have any
👏👏👏👏
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I don’t have any white privilege and I’m white. I’m from Europe, here skin colour doesn’t matter.
Chiaraangel07 I hear this from Europeans all the time, and you’re missing the point. There is still plenty of prejudice against the Roma (“Gypsies”), Jews, Basques, immigrants from Africa/the Middle East, and the Slavic nations have a full history of racial bias.
Chiaraangel07 yeah no you have white privilege there is still racism in Europe and racial injustice.
I love that Marilyn wears the same dress the whole episode :)
Was gonna say the same thing 🤣
It’s her 7 year itch (the air vent scene) dress.
How else were we going to know that it’s Marilyn Monroe 🤷🏽♀️😂
I love the part where Marilyn Monroe finished her drink, because her name kept getting messed up
So does Ella lol
"Sometimes ladies have to hook each other up"
"Empowered women empower women"
"Queens uplift other queens"!!
In 1955 two kindred spirits met when they needed each other the most in the McCob.
Marilyn Monroe was a liberal and believed in freedom for all. Amazing woman.
She saw that even as pretty as she was, she was still put in a cage. She saw Ella in the same place. The peacock and the Nightingale were freed. 🥺🥺🥺
@@Alusnovalotus very true
“Ella Fitzgerald is the Queen of Song, no one can sing better than Ella Fitzgerald” period
Is it weird that I almost teared up there at the end
Same
Nawh, my heart sank at the end.
I'm not ashamed to admit, I full-on cried towards the end.
I definitely cried at the end.
I did too 😭 so beautiful
Hollywood doesn’t deserve Marilyn.
You are gorgeous I couldn't finish the video without subscribing to you got damn!
Or Ella
@@Alusnovalotus that’s the honest truth. The way the treated her vs what she gave the world is truly a crime.
@@Joi_Robb I’m appreciating the fact that they saw a shining soul in each other in a world that treated them like exotic creatures .
The peacock and the nightingale.
They still have that control in Hollywood today, they're just better at hiding it. You got some greedy pervs who controls Hollywood behind close doors, they'll have puppets represent them for public view.
Alright for sisters, and lady power to the max!! Marilyn helped Ella through the door, but Ella made it work! Marilyn clearly knew that the segregation was BS, and didn’t go around trying to say “Oh, if it weren’t for me, Ella would be a nobody.” She sat down and let Ella shine. And that’s all it takes sometimes is to hold the damn door open for someone. That’s all it takes. Not trying to be a “savior”, just helping out a friend.
And Ella told the world that there was more to this beautiful icon y’all done murdered than you ever thought!!
(I’ve always loved this story too as Ella and MM have always been personal heroes. Now they got me all choked up....”
This is a story of womanhood, sisterhood, but most of all friendship. Truly moving ♡
Anybody else crying??? This story is so sweet 🤧💖
Yep
Almost.
Me
People keep talking about Marilyn being brave and great… but Ella was the true brave one. She had to deal with bs like this her whole life. So thank you Ella (and Marilyn too, just wanna recognize her)
They were both brave.
I think you’re viewing an old-world problem from a new-world lens. Marilyn was brave. It’s obvious in those times that black people weren’t as accepted, but did you know white people were usually scrutinized and outcasted for helping them. So they say brave because Marilyn risked her celebrity to help a friend. A friend that wasn’t socially acceptable for her to have in those times. She was ahead of her time and both women are amazing in their own right. Love me some Ella!
I think “strong”, “resilient”, or a whole slew of other positive terms would be better ways to describe Ella, but calling her “brave” for something like that ignores the nuances of being marginalized.
Being brave is more something that you elect to be, but for someone like Ella, especially at that time, it was about survival. You’ll do a lot of things if you don’t have the luxury of an escape plan.
A comment I read put it best, asking, “Is it brave to run away from a pack of wolves out to get you?” It takes so much to keep running, but it's separate from simply being “brave.”
Now Marilyn, she actively chose to support Ella when she had nothing to gain but much to lose, and she did it anyway. *That’s* bravery.
As for who’s better? It’s comparing apples and oranges: a complete waste of time. These two incredible women used their lots in life to make a difference where they could, and they both deserve immense respect for that.
Idk about yall but @4:02 "doo wah doo wah doo wah doo wah doo wahhh" is exactly how I'm feeling post-quarantine. Big wtf energy
🤣🤣🤣
The Rotary phone on the arm chair when he called Ella had me dying. God I loved using that phone
The hilarious part is her handset 📞 was on the arm of the chair while the rest was sitting on the floor 😂😂😂😂
"Tidewater/Hampton Roads!
One more cheer!"
*clink*
"I didn't understand anything you just said"
This story would make a good movie. Or maybe Hollywood: Season 2?
Ohh, it would be nice to see something like this in Hollywood too
anamar leticia I literally said what you said in my head!!! the same way you did, and then I read your reply 😅☺️
That's my girl ❤️ Marilyn she wasn't just a piece of meat she was an extraordinary human being ,she's not perfect but she left her print in history .I Love You Norma forever
Same ❤️
I have never seen anyone so energized when drunk😁😁Love it...I want her to tell my story as I walk life 😂😂
It sort of felt like "Coked-up History." Spin-off idea?
This was epic...I died when the historian was studdering and the characters were waiting for her to get her shit together 😂
This one kinda made me emotional in the end when she said," She LOVED that lady..." I felt the tears well up. Sometimes we really have to hook a sister up.
This is by far my favorite Drunk History ever. I had no idea they even knew each other. Two strong, beautiful, talented women helping each other in a time when the world was against them is just so beautiful. We should all strive to be like Ella and Marilyn and use whatever privileges and talents we have to help others.
This is so great to see Gabourey Sidibe again !!
I named my daughter after Ella Fitzgerald.
So did my mother :)
Ella means HER in Portuguese and Spanish. Love that name ...
that's amazing
Im named after her!
My sisters named after Ella Fitzgerald !
I love Ella's music, but I never knew about her relationship with Marylin until I read something online. I would totally watch a movie of these 2.
I actually can’t believe Hollywood hasn’t made it happen yet

Why does the other guys seem irritated by her drunkenness isn't that what the skit is about but when men are drunk he's always laughing
I noticed that too
Seriously. She was delightful!
I peeped that
He's a downer this time. Keeps asking if she's ok. What's the deal???!
This comment. Yes. She was delightful and he seemed like an irritated child.
Gabourey’s little thumb rub on Juno’s shoulder when they hug! 😭 MY HEART
Ella Fitzgerald biopic starring Gabourey Sidibe would be very cool!
The Etta James biopic starring Sidibe would've cool.
Obayifa Batiste Gabby is not butt ugly
@dil oreo Gabby isn't ugly but she does NOT look like Ella in complexion nor size.
Obayifa Batiste what a nasty thing to say about another woman. 🤔
@@SamAsm367 In Etta James' autobiography (which is fantastic by the way) she tells a story of how she had to tell a cop that she was a black woman because they thought she was white. So perhaps Gabby is not the right choice for Ms. James. They already had Beyonce play her in Cadillac Records.
So Hugh Hefner confirmed that Marilyn was bisexual. Some people believe that she had more than a friendship with Ella while others hate the idea that they may have been in a relationship. But I think we can all agree that they were close and truly loved each other.
They never even met. Plus the nudes of her used in the first issue of Playboy were used without her consent and she received no compensation for them.
Taiwo A so wait is this video lying????
Green Vegan Hugh and Marilyn never met
@@greenvegan8274 the video isn't lying, the comment about Marilyn being bisexual most likely is
I'd take anything Hugh Hefner said about Marilyn with a pinch of salt. Sounds like he was engaged in some serious wishful thinking.
Marilyn Monroe was an amazing woman and I love learning about her
also this narrator just does not stop with the enthusiasm and it's amazing
Look how they looked in the camera when she was stumbling saying Marylin Monroe🤣
Why was Ella’s 1st dress so ill fitting though? What costume designer let that slide. They need to hire people who specialize in plus size women -.-
It's because the time era it's set for. Things were still segregated and black citizens didnt have easy access to the same comforts white citizens had, including access to nicer fabrics at an affordable price.
Theres designers for bigger women now, but there really wasnt back then.
Ella knew how to dress well. There were more seamstresses in that time that could make custom dresses. They didn't have to buy from fancy boutiques
it's like you read my mind! Drunk History is not some nothing little show... where's the quality crew??
Ella looked NOTHING like this. She was several shades lighter and really beautiful and elegant. Don't get me wrong, Gabby is a good actress, but don't throw ANY black woman in there to play Ella. Ella's beauty, elegance, and perfect voice was applauded by Frank Sinatra and EVERYONE in the business. I'm offended. Once again, white people not respecting the look of a black person. So many famous black actresses or not so famous but looked somewhat similar could've been cast as Ella.
@@elliesings9508 oof the colorism in this comment. Gabby is a great actress and shouldn't be discriminated against for her skin color! Almost the entire Hamilton cast was casted in a historically inaccurate way, but it's still a masterpiece, and that was sort of the point. In 2020 I don't think trivial things like appearance matter for portraying the heart of a historical figure anymore. You might as well be mad about the little mermaid being black if that's a priority for you.

What i loved most about this very sincere generous beautiful and seemingly unlikely friendship is that it showed us a lovely and happy moment in their lives which are both often remembered more for the unfortunate and tragic dark moments as a sum of their whole lives .

Who is the narrator? Sorry I dont recognize who she is, though I know who Gabourey is , great actress
I think she was on Grey's Anatomy too, she was part of Lexie Grey's intern class.
I consider myself very fortunate to have seen Miss Fitzgerald perform live in Seattle in 1979 (with Count Basie) A voice like hers comes around so infrequently. I also 'liberated' my Dad's 45 single of Lullaby of Birdland that he bought while he was in college.
