Ugh... how many times do we have to do this? "Toxic Masculinity - Oh so now masculinity is bad?!" is like saying "Toxic Mushrooms - Oh so now mushrooms are bad?!" Its not the thing thats bad, its a type of the thing thats bad and how/why. This isn't difficult and actually, I think such a nuance is delibrately lost and gee, I wonder by whom, and why...
Toxic masculinity is, imo, an Ironic exhibition of boyish insecurity, and an over exhibition of "masculine quality" as is sold now, would have been rather derided.
No, no one is saying masculinity is bad. They are saying that the particular type of masculinity is bad. No one is saying holding the door up for a woman is bad. They are saying comments and asking you sleep with the director is bad
I think the problem with the qualifier "toxic" is that its meaning is subjective in this context. Toxic mushrooms are measurably toxic, but what one person defines as "toxic masculinity" may be to another person "fortitude", "single-mindedness" or simply "masculinity". One never hears the term "toxic femininity", probably for the same reason: one woman's behaviour might be "assertive and insistent" to you, and "manipulative and bitchy" to me, depending on our respective: a) contextual interpretation; b) ideological persuasion or bias.
Who believes her claims of never ever having any plastic surgery? She has had a ton of cosmetic work on her once gummy smile and teeth alone. I can see that she has had an upper and lower eye lift along with a neck and cheek lift. She should just be honest and not lie about it.
There's something off about the way she answers the question about her being traditional, then the "me too" movement and kind of defending men "complementing" women, and then eventually going about some predatory man in the entertainment industry. Maybe it’s just me, but i think she's not quite consistent in what she thinks, or maybe not aware of all the horrible abuse of women in the entertainment industry throughout the years.
good for her and thats how u should respond, not cave and do it with the director and then complain 50 years later about being coerced. Dame Collins handled it the way u are supposed to. People forget that Hollywood is a fast track to fame, regular acting is playing the long game. so the people who play the long game and respect themselves deserve the most credit
Joan is a typical Gemini. Her story changes everytime according to the existing mood and the audience. Guess that's how she has survived so long in this tough business without a great deal of talent
I wonder what makes the difference - there have been stars destroyed by the industry and stars that managed. I think MM, Judy Garland and Elvis are the most famous talented artists who were destroyed. What with those crickets! Because of them I failed to hear what was said. Oh, well.
It’s a shame she misunderstands toxic masculinity and then goes on to describe an incident with a toxic man waving his toxic masculinity, misunderstanding the connection!
But I think she's talking of degrees. A man chatting a woman up is not the same thing as a man harassing women ir assaulting. People are losing the ability to read situations and navigate sexual encounters etc
