It happened to me when I was younger and modelling/acting. A very famous photographer tried to force himself on me multiple times and I managed to escape each time, and then he threatened to destroy my career and ensure that I would never work in the industry again. When I complained to agents, people around me, and higher ups, EVERYONE said to just go through with it and give into his VERY CREEPY demands, because he could make me famous. I still refused and walked away from my dream and the whole industry, disgusted. It sent me into a huge bout of depression for several years, but I kept my dignity, at least. This was before the Me Too Movement, though.
@@justanotherhappyhumanist8832 Thanks for sharing. My sis and me were also into the modeling world in as teens and early 20's on a local level. see this is what frustrates me a LOT. this happens all the time in the Hollywood industry yet no one takes action. it’s all about the power. Specifically the men with the power who think they are untouchable due to the fact that they are higher up than the actresses. society is messed up.
@JunoDiovonaDemihof How's that? I'm sorry. But, just because some women went along with what was presented to them, certainly doesn't mean they were OK with it, or even wanted it for that matter. They just had a goal, and a career they either want to get off the ground, or not see destroyed before they got or get the chance. Men destroyed the industry is what you really should be saying. There is no safe place for the much needed women, when their lives depend on the men who control the industry.
studios owned actors in those days, they'd even loan them out, it was wild, marilyn was the second woman in history to own a production company, joan collins in land of the pharaohs..wowza
It's a cultural issue not just in Hollywood either. Guys with money don't like rejection and not being able to treat all females as prostitutes their property to own.
Back then certainly. But it’s Not just guys with money now. It would be people with money. My company a powerful rich married woman was recently exposed for constantly sexually harassing a younger married man. A female lawyer hired by the company said this is occurring more now than ever before. It’s said power corrupts. Power and corruption has no gender.
Even as a waiter for big shots parties I was groped, propositioned and pushed into bathrooms by both male and female but never relented and took it as part of the job.
Just disgusting! Because we continue not to expose these men is the reason why we will never get rid of them. This is just so sad!🤦🏾♀She still looks beautiful by the way.😊
They dropped Marilyn's contract when she said no! And that was her end! Joan explains why Marilyn died. She was depressed after the studio dropped her.
Joan made one mistake in this interview. She said that MM was past over because she was "too old" for a role that she ended up getting. This is incorrect. MM refused to do the film (she HATED the script). Fox suspended her, whereupon she went to NY for more than a year, until Fox acquiesced to her demand for director approval, a raise to $100,000 per film (later increased to $500,000 per film in 1962) when she again beat Fox, getting not only director approval, but also script approval, the right to hire writers for future movies, etc.... during the 1962 negotiations to get her to complete the filming in "SGTG".
I am utterly frustrated and disgusted to see the effort to channel what has started out as a campaign to expose the abusive nature of Hollywood into a means to slander the famous actresses -much with the help of people like Ms. Crawford, who pays Marilyn Monroe's mercy for her by accusing her to sleep around for roles -well done! So, Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor -who actually did a very good job in Cleopatra- and other successful actresses could only succeed because they slept around? So, the other actresses who have not been as successful can congratulate themselves over their chastity? Is that how it works? Nothing like defaming dead women, who cannot speak for and defend for themselves. Well done again.
Well , Liz Taylor was in a totally different configuration. A star since she was a child , driven and much "protected" by an ambitious mother, she was a real power by the time the Cleopatra project was around. I doubt any other actresses , especially second rank stars like Collins , were seriously considered to lead such a monumentally expensive project, the biggest ever at the time and that went overbudget. Taylor was always the first choice and signed the biggest deal ever , one million dollars plus a hefty percentage of the profits, which was the biggest salary any actor had ever got at the time ( in spite of the relative failure of the film , number one at the box office but still not generating enough profits to recoup its cost which had escalated due to Taylor and Burton's behaviour on the set, she was the one who got out of it relatively unscathed getting a neat 7 million dollars from her percentage ). She was already the number one female star at the box office at the time of the contract signature and retained her record one million dollars salary until the end of the 60's. So really, Joan Collins didn't stand a chance. That's the saddest actually, those guys were just after those young actresses' butts, with false promises that wouldn't even had materialized had they accepted that sort of arrangement. At the most , they'd get bit parts or subpar material and would get ditched at the next curve.
Oh so nice to see Joan collins. Yeah the wolves at Hollywood you should see the wannabe wolves in New York state. Wolves we get them less prison sentence.
It's no wonder a MAGAt like you have an issue with the points she's making. Your favorite rapist Trump (Jeffrey Epstein's best buddy) is on Joan's list of predators too
It sounds awful, what Joan had go through in this business...i am just happy for her that she managed to still get lots of good roles and keep her class at the same time.
Still goes on today 2023. With us ordinary folk.

Marilyn was not abused - per se.
State of mind of women was different in the day. It is important to understand that.

There were other women who had own production company's before MM. First comes to mind is Mary Pickford then Ida Lupino.
I believe Marilyn warned all future females about the wolves studio heads.
I think women in Hollywood are a little bit more empowered now but back then they got abused sexually and emotionally and were treated like cattle sad

One of the best hairstyles in general. Screams money. Most likely a wig; a fantastic one.

Yes, she's so interesting, still vibrant - to listen to. She's still so glamorous but she has a LOT of personality, seems much younger.
