- Popeye Barbecue for Two was a 1960 cartoon pilot short introducing the TV series for King Feature Syndicate mostly directed by Jack Kinney, Seymour Kneitel and Gene Deitch.
The Reanimate was planned in September 2021 and animation started in December 2021 and the last scene was finished in May 2023.

I have to say, that is by far my favorite part of this whole re-animation collab, since my favorite Popeye is, was and always will be the classic Fleischer shorts.

Popeye has always been important to me. My uncle Ricky had Downes Syndrome (among other things) and Popeye was one of three things he responded to. I have a lot of memories watching Popeye with him, so this was absolutely delightful. Thank you to the whole team for this beautiful work of art.

I'm super impressed. All the artists were pulling their weight and came up with some amazing interpretations. This gives me hope to see Popeye return to TV someday

Technically, that was Brutus. During the time of the 60s series, the heads in charge weren’t sure if they kept the name Bluto. Since then, they re-established Brutus as Bluto’s brother.

Seeing more of the 1960 Popeye shorts getting reanimated like this - and the 1960 Tom & Jerry shorts!! - would be pretty swell indeed!
I'm ipressed how it keeps a leveled quality throughout different artsyles. Most of reanimated collabs I've seen are atleast partially done by people who just started animating and this obviously causes sudden quality drops in animation but this one is superb from the first to the last frame

I didn’t know his name was auuuuughhhh!!!
The sound effect in place of his name in this episode was because King Features (wrongly) thought Paramount owned the rights to Bluto. After this episode, their more portly version of the character would adopt the name "Brutus".
I’k but the sound effect makes me laugh for me it’s not Brutus he auuuughhhh!!
