  • So I had heard Bob Jaques comment in the Cartoon Logic "Spinach Skrewtny" podcast (R.I.P.) that the climax gag in the Popeye cartoon "Goonland" seems belabored to him, with the frame of the action slowly shrinking each subsequent shot until the "film strip breaks" gag happens.
So I did a quick and dirty re-edit of the gag where the action always takes up the full frame until the frame shrinks RIGHT when the "film strip breaks", to hypothetically give the audience a bit more jolt when the gag comes up.
However I realized the animators planned it deliberately to emphasize the frame, and that's why the "camera" doesn't use more interesting angles, and removing the frame shrinking effect makes this scene even more belabored than intended. Now everything is timed to the music score so I can't do anything about that unless I decide to just remove the soundtrack. Maybe some day.
HDTV transfer used. It's copywhite kwammed, but due to region-specific reasons I can't monetize any videos anyway so enjoy it however you can.
