Alverez has discovered some JiuJitsu. His scramble to defend those single legs from a whizzer, he is utilizing a very loose cross Ashi Sweep. It's really powerful and applicable. Coach Pritzloff should get with Rutgers Graduate and BJJ club coach Gary Tonon with this athlete and incorporate that inside ashi/sankaku position with more detail so Sammy can Secure reversals off that counter. Great match.
He should learn his lesson and not resort to that position so much. He's trying to hit the scissors, not completing the manoeuvre, and getting stuck with his back almost exposed in this position you find reminiscent to ashi. It's a poor position to be working out of within the framework of wrestling.
@@pano6391 I agree, but if he knew the position better and locked up the inside sankaku, and understood the sweep better it could be a solid technique. From the whizzer hea already in trouble. Just like nickal was using inverted triangles aka the winner Dixie on people, this inside sankaku sweep could be some nice funk and could lead to a reversal and exposure. I love how wrestling and jujitsu are merging.
Both very good scramblers, but they need to work on their offensive attacks. Unless Bravo Young makes that kind of improvement, he’ll be an All-American without ever being a title contender. Alvarez will not stay at 133lbs. He has the frame to be at a much bigger weight class.
@idoj654123 He's not a title contender. The types of wrestlers that win are usually good at two or more of the following: attacks on feet, scrambling ability, great on top at turning, and impenetrable defense(that includes being good on bottom). RBY is really only good with scrambling, and he's not a Yianni type who turns people's attacks into his own offense. I think he'll struggle with keeping DeSanto and Rivera off his legs. I can potentially see him hang with Gross, but that will depend on him not giving up points on bottom. And given the guys who are coming back next year, this season might be his best shot.
@@Commanderparks lmao bet he wants to take that comment back now. I knew he was special from the first time seeing him wrestle and now look. Kids a National Champ
RBY is only a sophomore.--a true one, too. Experience isn't as much of a factor as you think. Two wrestlers with very good potential. The thing is that they are both similar, which is why the match was so entertaining.
Steeve Cantave one has wrestled for the top team and started a full college season. And the other one was wrestling in high school. Sure they are they same haha. Alverez will beat later in the season.
Looks like Gary Tonon's jiu jitsu has rubbed off on the Rutger's wrestling room. The move Alvarez is pulling to neutralize rby's attack is the same inside senkaku that Gordon Ryan hits to attack heel hooks
RBY is fast, explosive and athletic but also conditioned, technical and great scrambler.. its hard to be all those things at once. Never seen a lightweight like that before
Who’s the leaders of this team? I hate that Bo is gone. Neither Hall or Joseph step on the gas and try to score. If you watch all their past matches you will see that they wrestle slow and just keep it close until the end. They both waited until the last minute of their matches last year to try and score. Someone in the room needs to show the young guys to go out and get after it. You have some great wrestlers in the room that just don’t go out and open it up for some reason
I don't know what happened with Hall. He's the most boring top wrestler in college. Pound for pound, I have him up there with Lee, Zahid, and Gable. However, maybe because he's undersized, he doesn't pile it on. But the guy you should be looking at is Nick Lee. He is Penn State's best wrestler in terms of bonus points. With Nolf, Nickal, and Zain, it was a mindset. They would put themselves in dangerous situations for the sake of scoring.
Who is the blond woman who keeps appearing at the bottom of the screen? Specifically, is she a member of the team, a member of the officiating crew, or someone who is working for the venue. She obviously has some kind of official job in the meet, but I just wondered what that job is.
VTPSTTU I was at the match and was wondering the same thing. She just followed the referee at the end of each period and counted down the time that was left
VTPSTTU Her job is to watch the clock for the referee so he doesnt have to. At the end of the period she will come out and count down so the ref can keep all his attention on the match
@@TLOFLEX yes, that is why I have him ranked 2 and desanto 3. Piotrowski owned Alvarez so now I think I will move him up to 6, Phillippi 7 and rank Alvarez 8 on youth factor. Lovett could upset someone but looks unlikely to place
Held my breath at least 4x, spectacular match to both men
The conditioning of these two was unreal. Cael has RBY in phenom shape. He was barely even breathing in the double overtime.
Tropical Terrarium I think they said he was sick, too
Alvarez has the tools to be a national champ, and he's good at pulling off upsets. Looks at his match against Robert Howard
dude that match was insane against howard
Facts, if you think that was crazy watch howard vs minnino
The best part is that Howard will be at PSU next yr
He's just a dog.
You guys saw Howard’s macth with mineno talk about crazy
What a match.
every RBY match is super entertaining, there’s always so much scrambling and it’s awesome 👏🏽👏🏽
0:44 anyone else notice that Jojo Aragona was going to wrestle himself? 😂
What?
It was a close match, going into 3 OT.
Sniffing Shorts the bar at the top that shows the match ups says Jojo Aragona from Rutgers is wrestling jojo aragona from penn state

Steeve Cantave ik I’m here late but your completely wrong. Just killed a top guy in desanto and barely loses to Gross
Oh how ironic this comment is now after roman just won lol

This didnt age well
Sammy was GASSED tho. RBY’s conditioning is unmatched, never seen the dude breathing heavy
RBY doesn't even look tired after double OT
Best match I’ve seen this year!
The Rutgers kid is a beast. He can scramble

great match, love it
3:43 Harry Potter in the crowd.
Alvarez will be a national champ I bet
May not this year but he’ll be in his 4 years
RBY will win a National Title before he graduates.
Gross has this weight this year tbo
This comment aged well, RBY national champ 2021

Penn State is untouched in the singlet department. They are clean af especially on their home mat.
They should wear the white ones more

In fairness we've been spoiled with Nickal/Retherford levels of aggression recently. Those are really the acceptation and not the norm.
good match
Can someone explain the college ot rules for me? What if RBY hasn’t gotten that takedown?
Go to 30 Second Top/Bottom.....if still tied....whoever has more RT wins!
Scott Lipitz not to be annoying but although this would be next to impossible what if they had the same amount of riding time?!

You do realize that he's saying 19-20, not 1920... right ?
Give sammy one more year... 😅
sebas a he’s hoping Suriano doesn’t go 133 lol
