      Hi Russell I was wondering do you ever burn candles ? if you do once you get down to the last part of the wax that you can no longer burn, go to the dollar Rama and buy makeup pads they are sold in a long sleeve. When you get the end of your candle blow the candle out and soak up the leftover melted wax with the makeup pads let it get harden store in freezer bag and it’s burns longer and makes GREAT fire starter you should try it and if you have friends who burn candles ask if you can collect them for you super easy and burn a while good luck

    You can tell it's really cold when the snow crunches like that. You be careful out there, especially when you're by yourself.

  • @johnbrinton3873

    Just a note, having solar panels on the roof makes it hard for daily service like removing snow. I would design a ground platform 5 feet off the ground that faces south and will adjust straight up and down keeping the panels vertical in the winter so snow will not collect and cover and if you did have to clear them it would be easy. You would have to add more panels for such a set up but well worth it should you have one fall off the roof!

    I spent 4 days and nights at my cabin on an island in pigeon lake during one of those cold snaps. Borrowed a snowmobile from a friend and took my dog across two miles of ice with a sled trailing behind. For the entire time, I only unzipped my snowsuit to go to the outhouse...lol. Snowmo got stuck in the snow one evening and I thought I was going to die of a heart attack digging it out......had to stop and dry off my sweat evry 5 minutes....anyway, I survived. didn't even use the woodstove, too much trouble. just heated the bunkie up a bit with a kerosene heater before bed, then shut it off. Most amazing quiet and beauty up there in the wintertime. Would love to see a video on the drone and how it's working out. thanks!

    You need to dig a root cellar below the frost line next spring and keep beer and other refrigerator items in there when winter comes and in summer it will keep things cold as well. Your friend Shawn James has one and works well.

    This winter is amazing, not drowning in 2+meters of snow like last winter and not constantly -30C, working outside wasn't fun at all and not to mention doing equipment repairs.. Maybe time to try some doggie boots on Willow as she's the wild one? If she wouldn't just eat them off, the icy hard snow's terrible on the paws.
    Wouldn't two of those heat powered/thermoelectric fans on top of the stove, one on each side of the pipe help a lot with spreading and speeding up the heating of the cabin?

    You build wood stove fires the same way I do - the absolute best way. However as far as I know, north south is better than east west. Place your first logs the other way, ends facing the glass. Once fire is established, continue placing new logs north south. Cheers :) Oh yeah, and... have you ever heard of vegetables? Your videos make me laugh in a good way!

    Look into some Diamand Grip stair treads to put on your platform, and maybe even for your stairs. That seems crazy up there on a flat platform.

    • @RaspberryRockOffGridCabin
      @RaspberryRockOffGridCabin  5 років тому

      What do you do once it fills up with snow? I can't use them on the stairs because of the dogs.

    • @JerryTurner
      @JerryTurner 5 років тому

      @@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin I guess that is true about the dogs. For the platform you could remove the board and just put the stair tread. Then snow would just go through, and not build up. Love watching your channel, keep it up!

    Hey Russell. I’ve often wondering if you’ve ever stacked the logs the other way? The space between the 2 logs would be facing you allowing perhaps more air flow.It’s how I used to do my fire place but mine was one that didn’t have glass to watch it so it didn’t matter which way the logs were. I know you’ve lit 100’s of fires but I was just curious? Cheers kb

You probably need some chicken broth at the bottom of the cooking pan you're cooking your chicken in. If you want. you could add some potatoes, and carrots along with some chicken broth. I was wondering why you don't have a fire place screen? Don't you think it'd be much safer burning your wood with a screen?

    Why can’t I chat on your live streams? Every time I click chat it force closes UA-cam. Last 3 times you did a live stream

      Hi Justin, I don't know I've never heard of that problem before. Can you try a different browser next time? Also, check out other live streams on youtube and see if it happens. Just do a search for 'live'.

      @@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin I was just wondering with how hard it is or you to get there all the time. I'm worried about it when ever I head out by myself.

      Well it doesn't make sense to worry about stuff. Just deal with problems when they come up.
