As a Norwegian I'm used to cold and a lot of snow. Even coming to a frozen cabin during the winter, but having two wood stoves and lots of firewood, it warmed up very fast. No electricity! Just oil lamps and candles. Very primitive. But it was fun having a short break from city live and that was all it was. Just a break. I don't envy you having to deal with 'winter problems' 2-3 months a year. Now I'm living on Crete. Sure,- we have snow. Lots of it, high up in the mountains and it's a beautiful sight, but no snow on the coast. We start complaining when it's 'only' +13 degrees celsius outside and god forbid that the temperature gets below +22 degrees inside. 😊 But,- I hope you'll soon feel better and that city-girl will come and keep you company for some days. I'm sure that will do the trick. Keep warm! ❤
Snow and ice is nothing, I had the worst and best Christmas of my life. My son nearly died and was in ICU for over a week. I got home on this past Monday after a month away caring for my son in the hospital. Snow and freezing rain isn't fun to deal with but it's ten times better than sitting at the bedside praying for your son to live.
I do not remember hearing in this video that anyone compared their situation to the situation or illness of another? Maybe I missed that part…. If so I apologize…. Stay safe and healthy….
I have that same Gen at my camp. If the switch is on (for remote start) It will periodically drain the battery overnight. Some reviews show that too. Annoying but manageable with the big switch. Cheers
So good to see you. So sorry you're sick. Take plenty of vitamins to replace all those you've lost. Pray you get well soon. Glad you got you're cabin back up and running. We got 9 inches of snow then ice, on and on 2 weeks ago here in southeast Tennessee. Haven't seen that much since the blizzard of '93 when we got 23 inches. Today was my first day out.
Welcome back Russell! Sorry to hear you weren't feeling well. I can relate to the snow situation. We couldn't get into our property at all (North Bay area) and had to hire a company. Rest up and get well soon! -Frank
You need to go south for a few months during the winter months…….good for the body and soul. Think of it as a recharge. You will be able to tackle the rest of the months with ease. Currently in Dominican Republic and it’s a balmy 29 degrees. Cheers!
I'm exhausted just watching the carry-on with your winter. All that work with generators, frozen food and clothes, clearing the snow, winching your gogo mobile, keeping the fire going. Would it not be easier to live in the condo during the winter time. I thought our summer weather was difficult. Boiling heat and bush fires, but I would not swop it with you. Hardy folk you must be. Hope the coughing stops. Try some vicks vaporub and a couple of rums 😮
Russell you can get wire connectors for your atv battery to boost and trickle charge your battery and mount it for easy access. Also you can get a small solar panel to trickle charge your atv and the genny battery...You can also boost your genny with your atv...
Sorry to hear you're unwell. Glad to see you back at RR. We sure did see a lot of snow, and now the freezing rain. Oh well, it IS Winter, and it IS Canada! Feel better...hugs to the fourleggeds. Cheers!
Invest in a battery jump box. NOCO are a great battery jump boxes depending on your battery group choose your needs. Keep with you or leave there at full charge these hold their charge and get plenty of jumps out of them. Get well.
Hey russell that coughing you are doing is called bronchospasms induced by cold air. Pick yourself up an unsoaped unscented piece of brillo pad. Sew it into a little bag and then put a scarf over your mouth with the bag inside.. as you breathe in and out your breath will heat up brillo pad so each subsequent breath is warmed air. Make sure baggie is centered over your mouth but not to where you can choke on it
The best of Plans fail to cover everything. I had drained the water system to my trailer hoping that would prevent any pipe freezes an breakage, but some some reason a cold water line in the bathroom sink froze an bursted ( in Kentucky) when that Artic wave set it at -5 deg at nite. I didn’t expect that. Heater worked fine. Anyway all is well again as temps in 50s this week. Water line fixed . Good luck Russel, it’s been a mess for many of us !
Here in Thunder Bay, we are above zero C. Did some brush burning yesterday at the cabin. Very strange conditions, we used quads instead of snow-machines as not enough snow. Take care brother and stay safe...Fred
Glad to see you back home where you should be and feeling better as well, next time you leave home in the winter for a while leave your kitchen cabinet doors open and your water won't freeze, the bottles that froze were the ones next to the outside walls. I don't know what to tell you about your generator. I would prefer one with a manual pull that way your not in as much trouble. MC.
I LIVE on green tea and orange spice tea when Im sick. Cold Green tea and honey 16 oz at a time. Orange spice tea no sweet and hot 8 oz and then 8 oz plain water. Alternate green and spice 24-7 til im better, w morning coffee to switch it up! At night 1 oz whiskey or vodka w a tsp of honey and a dash or 2 of fresh lemon.
Have had the cold for two weeks, 53 years old - doesn't go easy... fisherman's friend lozenges (UK) and cough linctus, old school vapour rubs and menthol/aniseed/eucalyptus based syrups seem to work. Keep eating and watch you keep your salt intake up.
Hey Russell Glad to see you again, Heard that you had nasty snow and ice up your way, sorry your not feeling well and had to deal with the various at the cabin, But you and the girls did make it safely. Hey your not stupid , Your down with a cold your thinking is off its normal, Have a hot toddy or a whisky and lemon. happy you got the generator going lovely drone footage , Hey get well, You made my night better with the video.
Sad to see You sick Russell... as I was shouting at the Screen, The Rope Start Russell....Rope Start.... The Fridge will insulate from the inside as well LOL Honey & Cinnamon works for me ... Look it up.. When you get time, pull the Genny battery out and see if the Case is cracked... it that battery froze from lack of a Charge it will split the case... take Care and thanks....
Poor Russell!! It’s so nice to see you again but what an awful experience for you!! So glad you got everything back up and running, hope you’re feeling better. Thank you for the drone video.
Russell, with these temperatures, your present 'illness', I heartedly suggest you wear your scarf over your mouth/nose. It will 'prewarm' the air going to your lungs. Thus somewhat negating the irritation you are experiencing.
That's a lot of shenanigans Russell ❤️ Sorry you had to go through that. I hope you feel better soon! Xo 💜 hope City Girl is doing well. I hope to join your bookesFest tonight.
Sorry you're ill. Whatever the bug is, seems to affecting people everywhere, and hanging on long time. Dunno why. Many in my family who live in other cities and states, have been fighting this kind of thing over the past 2 months. I think they all finally recovered. But my son has had it lingering for 1-1/2 months (a cough that gets worse and better and worse and better, but he is well enough to go to work) (no fever after the first week or two). I'm still battling it, haven't succumbed. *crosses fingers* I wish you had some nice hot sunshine for vit D and to kill off those bugs. I always enjoy yours and CGs vids. They're always worth watching. Though I don't enjoy when you have ongoing problems, of course.
Overall, you seem well prepared for the uncertain. Maybe have a pull start generator, extra propane that can be stored indoors in an insulated box for backup heat and for your stove. Do you have a below zero sleeping bag? thermal socks, slippers, hat, and under your clothes long underwear. Is there a way to build an insulated box for both batteries and for the generator? Get well soon. Thanks for sharing.
Great to see you and the girls again Russell! Sorry about the cough/cold.... commiserations. We had it too over the festive season it's taken a while to recover, so keep warm and don't overdo it. Hopefully we'll see City Girl next time, oh yes the drone footage is always 👌thanks. Cheers.
I’m thinking why your water froze more at the back of the cupboard is that it’s next to the frozen outside wall. Hope you get feeling better. Warming up here in SW Saskatchewan. Two weeks ago it was -41C, the coldest I’ve ever seen it. Actual temperature. I just discovered your channel. Looks like a good one!!
Russell! Glad to see you survived the floating germ incubator, lol, and brought yourself around with a cold plunge, eh? I hope you got to enjoy some of the cruise? I'm sure the vid will document everything. It was lucky you got the genny started in time. The cabin still standing and fortunately nothing burst. That looked like a rough go getting the crusty snow off the panels! It was -25 F (-31 C) -55 wind chill here a couple weeks ago and below zero for several days. My car started the night I had to work, but on the weekend it was RIP. We got a new battery installed whilst freezing our tits off. The snow usually comes and goes all winter long here, but we still have several inches of the 14 we got the day after Christmas. Next week it is forecasted to be 60 F (15 C)! It would surprise me if we don't have another deep freeze in February, tho.
Great Video Russell ! Trail needs a little corduroying so hopefully less winching, Good to see you back & hopefully that fresh air will get you healthy again :) Hey Russell a good set of booster cables at the cabin be a good idea, you can always boost from your ATV,
Welcome Back Russell. Bit of a struggle Bus you were on there eh? It was nice to sit down, relax, and watch someone else have a hard time for a change LOL, not that I wish that on ya buddy. Just wanted to Say thanks once again for my Birthday Wishes and Cruise Skit.....Funny Stuff. Make Sure you do me a Favor and Extend my appreciation to Al as well, Not sure if you saw my comments on the live the other Day. Best wishes
Sorry to see your under the weather however when extreme cold outside wear a mask or scarf over your nose and mouth. If you have jumper cables, try hooking them up to your generator and let it run say ten minutes then while still hooked up give it a try as it may just start. One other tip on small engines always use high test fuel as it works way better than just low grade. Hope these sugestions work for you if needed and hope you are feeling better sooner than later take care and keep your stick on the ice.
Silly thought! For a we while I've been wondering why you haven't created a shed/garage for the ATV? Just seems like some sense so you don't have to constantly put on and uncover it.
Add an Anderson plug on the side of the gen set wired to the top of the battery post, then use jump starter that might live in the ATV tool box. Voila, it will start. Bob in Nevada.
Russell, as always i enjoyed the video. I give you credit because when things need to be done, you do them...even if you're sick and have to crouch down for an hour working on equipment. Hey, i think you mentioned you were on a cruise. Often times when i've gone on cruises i come home sick. They can be cesspools of germs. Feel better, my friend!
Good thing that you figured out the manual thing and got to the pull start. Jumper cables from atv to the genny for the next crisis? Willow sure looked happy running ahead of you on the trip in. Get well and warm.
Sorry you are so sick and having to deal with all that's not working at the cabin. I guess better preparation in the future when you leave for any amount of time.......
You and Amanda from tidelinetoalpine would hit it off great....she'd help you with the mechanical stuff and you could help her not be so isolated all the time. She's a Canadian wilderness traveler/explorer, mechanic, dog lover, geologist and sweetheart.
Meanwhile we are having 45 deg C here in the Southern Hemisphere. I'm a cold weather person but I haven't spent a lot of time in sub-zero temperatures - I guess it's all relative.
I can relate to you Russell been down that road a few times my self and it is a ruff to deal with get every thing up & running I get fire & gas stove going and ur right takes a few days be 4 the wood and all warms up enough to feel like home again lol & I am lucky to have a well that I can run as so as it gets warmed up enough the next day but it does take about 24 to 48 hrs to get where u was when you left. But it's worth it lol just to get back home. Hope ur feeling better & I know that all I got for Christmas was covid so I feel 4 u man good luck & god bless
Aww. Get well soon, Russell! Glad to see you back at the cabin. I didn't realize how important power was and how everything is connected to everything else. I take power for granted living in the city. Anyway, pea soup!
I am glad your back. This summer I think I would make a jump start for the generator would not be hard for you as you understand how it works. If it came to it you could use the ATV. I also was wondering about choking the engine. I assumed(ass you and me) it was electric. Apparently it is a manual. I love my Bluetti AC-200p it has saved my bacon several times. I came back from 15 days on a cruise ship. Next day i was diagnosed with COVID the new strain it's like a cold with a cough. My allergies on top of that and here I sit 18 days later like you, go out side in cold and cough. Wishing you and City Girl a super blessed 2024. From the Great State of Texas.
You wouldn’t like it here we had -35 everything got froze up. And this isn’t a cabin . This is in town regular homes. Even had alerts on tv to go easy on power grid . This lasted for a week
Have you thought of making a board walk wide enough for your 4 wheeler apron your home from the road? Yes it would take awhile, but something you could do a section at a time. M I saw that done on this island, due to flooding. That way no one is ever stranded.
Russell try chewing raw mint washed clean, a few leaves a day is so good for ones lungs. Also if your inclined chew raw ginger root (small bits) excellent for general well being and heart. Good luck Russel hope that cold n cough goes soon. Cheers.
SOOOOO GLAD to see you again Russell. Sorry to hear that you have been sick and still have that awful cough. I sure missed you and Alicia!! Take care of yourself Russell. Sending hugs❤❤😊
Glad to hear you're taking the time to heal. Take it easy as much as you can, and don't feel bad if you decide not to live-stream tonight. You still sound kinda rough. That Bridge of Doom bit in this video, a suggestion I don't recall you mentioning. So you've said in the past that the landowner doesn't want a bridge, but maybe he would be ok with the Culverts of Doom? If you got a couple of two foot diameter culverts, and with that little digger of yours to fill around them? It could work. You have an easier drive, and the landowner isn't worried about a bridge falling down and him being liable.

Thank you for sharing your story.
Sorry for your son's troubles😢😢 I really hope he is recovered now!! Take care❤
Thanks! I'm shivering hearing how cold the cabin was when you returned. Hope your cold symptoms are all gone.
Hope you are feeling better Russell. It's even been bitter wet cold in south Alabama. But no snow. You guys are tough dealing with all that. ❤
Hope you get to feeling better Russell. Stay warm.👍👍

Equal parts Whiskey, Honey, Lemon juice for the cough/congestion
But mostly Scotch Whisky...
@@Cootapatamba for me it has to be brandy, cos i can,t even stand the smell of whisky let alone the taste,, disgusting stuff
Or rum.
And a dash of hot sauce.
Cannot fathom having a generator and not knowing it has a pull start.
THIS is Russell.

30:24 Those battery wires are way too thin to be of any use for actually starting the generator engine.

There's nothing worse than having to do stuff when you're sick. Nice drone shots!

Enjoyed this classic episode! Just got back from my 3 season cabin in northern Wisconsin. Only 4” of snow, very rare for this time of year.
Hope you feel better soon, Russell. Love the drone footage along with the music. So beautiful!

👍👍 Happy to see u back! Great job getting things back and running, hope u get well quick. Take care you and City Girl.
Your friend always, ME.
Happy to have you back Russell. I missed your videos
Great to see you and the girls again Russell! Sorry about the cough/cold.... commiserations. We had it too over the festive season it's taken a while to recover, so keep warm and don't overdo it. Hopefully we'll see City Girl next time, oh yes the drone footage is always 👌thanks. Cheers.
Thanks for allowing us that to come along with you,I learned so much ❤❤
Sounds like the wheels are starting to come off the bus. If you cleaned the wood stove window it would kick out a lot more infrared heat.
Hope you feel better buddy!glad to see ya home😃
I’m thinking why your water froze more at the back of the cupboard is that it’s next to the frozen outside wall. Hope you get feeling better. Warming up here in SW Saskatchewan. Two weeks ago it was -41C, the coldest I’ve ever seen it. Actual temperature. I just discovered your channel. Looks like a good one!!
Hope you are better. I had that too. The caugh is better now. Took a couple of weeks. Got to love winter. Can't wait for the cruise vid!
Glad you’re on the mend. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Hope u get well soon!! Ur a trooper puttn out a video when ur sick. Thank u...missed them!! 😊
Hope you feel better soon! I had a rough year last year health wise, hoping that thats behind me i can get back to normal!

Get well soon and stay warm 🤗🤗
Thanks Mr P for showing how you set up the generators. Would be a great thing to own. I'm in Ky and look forward to planting okra.
All those beautiful spring, summer and fall days at the cabin you pay for it in winter!!! Get well soon!!
Good to see ya hope you get over that soon, covid or whatever but we have had this bug run through our house too, same symptoms (NJ).
I would recommend getting a "Little Buddy" propane heater as a backup. It would help heat your cabin up quickly. Just for emergencies.
I should have added hook jumper cables to your four wheel battery to charge or jump start your generator.
Spring water and mineral water take longer to freeze than tap water. The frozen bottles that had the spring water labels might be refills.
The battery from the Can Am would start the generator.
Welcome back Russell. I hope you are getting well. Nice drone footage. Stay safe.
Thoroughly enjoyed, loved your humour and you seem so down to earth

Dark chocolate and garlic are good cough medicines and prevent colds. Common white cabbage also prevents the flu.
I would use the battery on the atv to jump start the generator. I am surprised there is no pull start on the gen..
Spoke to soon..
Welcome back .... Hope you get to feeling better... take care of yourself
In my fisherman's hut it often gets -15 degrees Celsius. Light the oven and it's good. Greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭😊

Glad you made it back to the cabin safely, got everything thawed and powered up your batteries.
You wouldn’t like it here we had -35 everything got froze up. And this isn’t a cabin . This is in town regular homes. Even had alerts on tv to go easy on power grid . This lasted for a week
Yea I like your new snow cap. Looks great on you.
Have you thought of making a board walk wide enough for your 4 wheeler apron your home from the road? Yes it would take awhile, but something you could do a section at a time. M I saw that done on this island, due to flooding. That way no one is ever stranded.
Kip on hope you have been better now …a flue or COVID …here in Norway same weather here too
“Intresting” is not a word.
Russell try chewing raw mint washed clean, a few leaves a day is so good for ones lungs. Also if your inclined chew raw ginger root (small bits) excellent for general well being and heart. Good luck Russel hope that cold n cough goes soon. Cheers.
Praying you get well soon,.
Good work, Russell-you figured it out!
SOOOOO GLAD to see you again Russell. Sorry to hear that you have been sick and still have that awful cough. I sure missed you and Alicia!! Take care of yourself Russell. Sending hugs❤❤😊
Great video, thank you!!
YAY Russell’s back.. 🙈
I don't think it was the land owner. Provincial I think. like the DNR in the states. Not sure how that works in Canada
Love your vids. Couldn't handle the coughing this time. Feel better soon. 😊
Hope you feel better soon, another great video.
