    I can't be sure without seeing them more closely but, at 17:10, the plants that you are talking about appear to be duckweed. I know you may not like how they look but they can be a food source for water fowl and can provide cover for other critters.
    I am enjoying your series. Thanks for posting these.

      Hey Randy, thanks for the comment. I hadn't really thought much about it, but next summer I'll confirm if they are duckweed because now you've piqued my interest. Cheers.

    I think this is the first time I noticed the toilet seat lol. Are you going to build around it sometime or have you already?

      First I gotta find a spot where I can dig down more than 2'. Bedrock everywhere here. I need a kubota with a backhoe and a bucket.

    Air powered nailer? Hey, that's cheating! I banged in all my nails by hand (except for the carpenter who framed my roof - he used an air compressor and nailer). I'm going with 12 V LEDs at my cabin, at least initially. I love the low power usage by LEDs. Tonight I will hoist a can of Yuengling in your honor, my friend!

      If I tried to hammer in 3 nails I would hit my thumb 5 times. No joke. My kitchen has 3 LED lights that produce an amazing amount of light. 9W each, pretty cool. But I don't have 12V setup yet.

    Did you bolt all your sono tubes to the joists?

      Hi Jeremy, good you're getting on your cabin. I have 4x4 post anchors embedded in the concrete, and pieces of PT 4x4 up to the support beams to level it all out (you'll never get your concrete posts all perfectly the same height). The 4x4 anchors are actually 4" x 4", so I needed spacers around the PT 4x4, if that makes sense. The supports are nailed to the pieces of 4x4 and the 4x4 are nailed to the anchors.
      If were going to do it again I wouldn't try to make the concrete piers are level, and I would have put larger anchors in to receive something bigger than a 4x4. Maybe 6x6.
      That's all pretty confusing so here's a picture I just took. Hope it helps. i.imgur.com/OnpqyM9.jpg

    man this looks difficult, how did you manage it all, are you a professional in some sort of trade that made it easier for you to accomplish this or something?

      No professional skills here. Though I dabbled with making sawdust in my basement. But everything you need to learn is on youtube, and I spent a lot of time learning. I also planned everything very carefully using Google Sketchup. And not everything went perfectly, far from it. Several times I broke down in tears and wanted to torch the place. Then I'd get up and keep going.

    What was the building permit process like for this?

    about the toilet, what if it rains a lot, won't all the poop rise to the top? also what do you do when it fills up eventually?

    • @RaspberryRockOffGridCabin
      @RaspberryRockOffGridCabin  6 років тому

      Poop is heavier than water, which is how septic systems work. But nothing like that happens anyway. The water just drains into the surrounding ground.

    Your cabin took out food source for a variety of animals ,bears being one of them . That’s a terrible sound ,what a pollution ,of sound .
