In this video, we will look at replacing the LCD screen in a Nintendo Switch. In this repair, we will safely remove the digitizer, and replace it, helping with the repair costs.

Thank you so much for this! I left my switch on the back of my car when I drove home. Drove around looking for it at 1 in the morning to find it had been run over a few times, with a trashed screen, but no casualties other than that and the controllers. The rest of the system works flawless. Even the digitizer works perfect, though there’s road rash all over it so I’ll have to replace it and the backplate. But shockingly the controller rails work perfect along with everything else, including docked mode. Hats off to Nintendo for making it idiot-proof.

I tried to repair my damaged switch by myself (first mistake) using this tutorial because it looked exactly like your thumbnail photo but when I connected the battery the screen stayed black. The sound is working and when I touch it I know that it’s moving around but it won’t show anything on the screen. Any recommendations?
The screen has 2 connections. The small one is the backlight. Make sure it is in all the way, in the connector.
Seems like the part I got had a backlight. I put all the old back on and I’m looking to mail it in to someone who does repairs. Do you take mail ins? If so do you have an email I can message you on?

I have burn in issue and don't know which part i need to use.
I have a small hairline fracture on the digitizer but it's not hindering the LCD or any of the functions. Just needed to know how to replace the digitizer. Thanks for the video. Just wondering, would you recommend using the heat gun on the screen after reassembling everything to make sure glue sticks back on.
You really don't need the heat. As long as you aren't touching the original adhesive... it will have plenty of "Stick" to hold the new one in place.
Fun fact: if u break ur screen or slam it the actual screen will make a sound like Pltsss and if u slam it or hit it withoutt breaking it it will make a thud
Wondering what I did wrong, or if the console might just be completely dead.
When I try to turn on console with the power button to test screen after repair it won’t turn on. But if I plug it in the lcd goes to a blue screen but the console still don’t turn on.
If I leave it plugged in a few minutes then unplug it the screen stays lit blue for about as long as I plugged it in for.
Any ideas?

Honestly... any of the silver based pastes are fine. I've changed a few times just based off of availability.

hi so my friend has a switch and his screen broke from him dropping it. The switch turns on but it doesn't display anything. However, he connected it to a tv and worked for a little bit then it started to not work again. What could be the problem here and would there be a way to fix this ?
the screen and the tv out don't really have a connection. so, I would think there is some other internal damage from the drop. OR... the USB-c port is just warn out.
Hi there, this video is good and all but like I just don't trust myself on doing this, so can you recommend any really good professional Nintendo Switch screen fixtures cause I can't find any and I got the exact same problem that you showed in this video. If you can that will help
I'm not sure I understand what you are asking about "Fixtures". The repair has to be done by hand. If you want to send it in, I will be happy to repair the system. If your digitizer is still good... you are looking at $65 for a new LCD, plus shipping if you are not local to wester PA.

What happens if you can’t hear noise with the touch is full replacement needed?
If you know that there is other noises... there is a good chance that the digitizer is bad also.

I don't have new adhesive with my digitizer I ordered can I just peel it off from the old digitizer to the new one ?
you can if you are careful. You can also use some 3m double sided tape from walmart, or the local hardware store.

can i replace a bad lcd screen with another lcd screen that as the same resolutions and the same number of pins?
If it fits, uses the same "Pinout" and uses the same controller... then yes, it should work. But to just say "It has the same number of pins" is not a way to judge if the screen will work.
I’m just trying to take the digitizer off to clean underneath, but I don’t have a heat gun and I’m scared to take off the digitizer and damage it. Any recommendations?
Yep... I do have a recommendation... use heat. If you try to take it off cold, you will most likely crack it. You can use a hair dryer if you are carful.

The little white hinge broke off trying to put in the cable no images showing on screen. Could I tape the cable down with something?
Yea I definitely have bent pins in the connector. Now I gotta fix that.
@@katiebell8872 The connector on the lcd is very fragile. I've tried to fix it while under the microscope... and I've never been successful. I have a video on how to replace the connector.

Hey I hope you still read these comments but i have a concern about save data will this effect the save data IF the screen is repaired because i know nothing about the internals of the switch
Yes... I try to read all comments that I see. No, replacing the screen has nothing to do with save data. If you are doing this yourself, all your data will be fine, once you are done. With that said... if you send it into the factory for warranty, they may just swap it with another and the one you get back will be blank.

how do i know if my lcd flex cable port on the motherboard is damaged? and how can it be damaged?
Generally, you know it's damaged if you can see it (like the bail broke off) or if you just cant get the cable in anymore. But, if you have a magnifying glass, you can look into the edge, and see if there are any pins bent. They are fragile, and can be damaged by using too much force, or if you try to put the cable in and it's not straight.

Just follow the video. at 5:28 ( ua-cam.com/video/53kfdi6yMBU/v-deo.html ) you can see me release the screen connector. the backlight connector is just above the speaker below. Then, after the touch panel comes out... the screen will also come out.
weird question: should the digitizer work if not glued? Because i wanted to test it before glueing it and the touch screen doesnt seem to be working so i don't know if the new one is broken or it just needs to be very tight to the lcd screen to be working (and it isnt if not glued).'
edit: it seems that sometimes it register the touch on the left side of the screen but its still not glued.
Yes... it should. We are finding that new digitizers don't like some controllers. so they may need a harder press... or will only work around the edges.

Question, when a screen gets damaged, the LCD panel will be the thing in need of replacement, not the digitizer, correct?
Right. Sometimes the digitizer gets damaged... but normally just the screen needs replaced.

I'm not sure. You would have to find a local shop, and ask them.
Thank you! Yesterday I smashed my switch screen out of anger which is embarrassing and I’m not forking out £68.52 just for someone to fix it because it’s literally the only portable console I have. I’ll try this next week and if it works I’ll try to keep my pro controller away from my switch screen..
Just use some heat, and you will get the touch screen off without an issue.

Yes... but you have to be careful as the switch lite's housing is plastic.

If the bail in up... it should slide out. If it doesn't, something may have been spilt into it, and it's just stuck with something sticky. If that's the case... use some alcohol... it should free up.
Can u help me itwont stop making noise and got that screen. Should I take out the battery
That screen is because it's smashed. Disconnecting the battery will make it quiet.

I got a blue dot on my screen. It dropped on hard wood floor. Go figure. Is there anyways to replace the screen? I got a OG switch from release. Really don't feel like sending it to Nintendo and having to wait 2-3 weeks for repair. And covid shipment delays... Btw I'm slow. And understood it. Just had at following instructions when people talk fast. You hit it spot on tho. Ty. :) You got any fix N64 controller guides or any other controllers from drifting etc? :) Don't want to spend allot of money on a new controller.
I'm glad you like the video. There's no way to fix the dot other than to replace the screen. Yes, I have a couple N64 vids. Just look in my channel, and you will find them.

No... probably not. There is a chip that switches to the HDMI.

I may not understand correctly... but I've never seen tearing on an LCD. AND, when there is an issue with that, it is normally caused by the controller chip going bad.
Hello I was wanting to try to replace the LCD on my switch that just broke today I saw this kit on amazon but it says it is not compatible with switch models HAC-001(01) would anyone think there would be any issues with this or should I be fine. The physical work is done off site because the store is physically too small to set up a proper work area. But yes, I work from Warpzone in Greensburg PA. If you are local, you can drop it off, and if you are not, you can mail it in.

It should be possible, but there is a small risk of damaging the screen you are trying to harvest.

No. A broken screen doesn't stop it from connecting to a TV.
@@PghGameFix ah man, I guess i've got 2 problems on my hand then. Do you know what could be causing it to not connect to a tv? previously it would connect and I could use the homescreen and settings but as I soon as I launched a game it would disconnect, but recently it wont connect at all
@@shnsi the PI3 chip controls the HDMI. BUT... it could be the dock, or a messed up USB-c plug also.

@@shnsi Hard to say. Depends on what is found to be wrong. But a screen, and a P13 chip... probably around $140/$150.

Yes. There is no reason to harm the screen, if you just need to replace the touch panel.

@@spardas6900 Sure. As long as you warm the glue/tape, and slowly work around the touch screen with plastic spudgers.

Just depends what's wrong with it. There are a few cases where the CPU or memory go bad.
How much do u think it would cost to get it fixed
The parts are generally $35 for the LCD. With labor, I generally charge $55. If the Digitizer is also bad, then it would just be a parts cost. (another $20)

Ok sorry to correct you here but the digitizer allows you to have touch but then the lcd is the thing that is glitched so if you can still tap on the screen but the screen is glitched you have to replace the lcd not the digitizer.

Right. So I'm a little confused with your comment. The video is about changing the LCD and not the digitizer. But, it's showing a safe method of removing the digitizer to get to the LCD. I'm guessing you didn't watch the vid since it's doing exactly what your comment is saying.

Did you plug in the small ribbon on the bottom? It's the backlight.

@@troubledbiscuit1735 is the system booting? Can yo hear any sound? If you can, I would check the main ribbon for the screen, and make sure it's in all the way. If not, then there is something else wrong.
My screen is black but I can touch it and hear the taps. The connectors are all in. I don’t know why it’s not working

That's a v1... but a V2 is the same. The new OLD may be different. I haven't opened one of those yet.

Dont worry about it. I also was scared. I had to hide it. I had anxiety and I was worrying that my mom would yell at me. Until today she was knowing I was hiding something, so she saw the broken screen but she didnt scream at me. "Its not your fault'" she said as i cried then she let the room and I felt better. the anxiety was gone. i felt free. Free from hiding it. so even if you think your parent will yell at you just tell the truth.
@@twinsbarnesfamily9479 I told my mom and told her it was a common thing and that I didn’t hit it or anything and when I get home ima show her this video now I’m just hoping she won’t be pissed when I get home but we have a toolbox at our house and we have a hairdryer we could use. Even if my mom gets mad at me she’ll probably buy me a new switch and I can just sign into the new switch. (Also I wrote a whole ass paragraph😂😂😂)
