This lesson has pointed out the fact that I rush my painting most of the time! I really need to slow down and pay attention to more details and not be concerned with reaching the finish line. I am new to water coloring and after watching a number of artists via UA-cam, I have become a huge fan of yours!! Until I actually take a water coloring class, I am pleased to see the progress I have made since taking many of your lessons to my paper ( I’m still using my wastebasket, but not as much🙄). Thank you!

I am so delighted you are doing glazing. I never liked my watercolour flowers and switch to water mixable oils to get that sparkling. Now I will enjoy watercolours again. Thank you for teaching this.

Your tutorials are great. The camera work is perfect so all the details are clear. Your comments are so helpful to me also. When watching other videos I quite often wonder why the artist did something but you explain what you're doing and why. That makes the learning process much easier and more fun for me. Thank you for all the help!!

People look at a painting and those who don’t know about the process, can never guess how many patient hours of work it takes to paint something as beautiful as this. Every single detail must be painted in. Every tone, every nuance of shade, every value takes time and patience and what I refer to as the “eye” must take constant rest and come back with a clearer view.
    Thank you for sharing.

"Art exists because life is not enough..." - Gullar, Ferreira.
Steve, it is so interesting that, after I got back to painting, after 15 years away from brushes, I started to see nature in a different way. Colors, patterns, beauty...
Life is so beautiful right now. No more TV, only books, moments painting, wine, music...
I just became a great fan of yours, man.

This and your video about how to get color on the brush...OMGosh...after watching hundreds ...no exaggeration...hundreds of videos I could never figure out correct water to paint amounts...kept dipping in water...and never knew what to do after my first washes of color...THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! I’m beginning to make real progress.

I agree! That video about water control and NOT dipping in changed everything! And the dip on the rag. Something so simple yet never explained like you do Steve. Others often assume we just KNOW.. as it is habit with an expert. Control of that water, one if the secrets.

Thank you for explaining the phases of your paintings. Hearing you've worked on the painting for weeks did my heart good. I'm a newbie & felt I was missing something because it takes me a week or more to do flowers. I even bought a tiny inexpensive blow dryer to dry between layers so I wouldn't mess up my work by not waiting for it to dry and that helped a bit, but I still want to rush to the next step. I've finally realized watercolor is different than colored pencils and I need to relax and do one thing at a time or one layer at a time as I learn. I'm trying to walk away to help me slow down.
Figuring out in what order to learn has been the most frustrating. Currently, as I come up with an idea I search your videos . Today, I wanted to do a splatter background on a painting of a pink flower so I searched for & watched your splatter video and that's what I'll practice. Then I saw the thumbnail of this light pink flower and here I am, learning. I'm reminding myself it's an opportunity to keep practicing water control and using my brushes.
Again, Steve, thank you so much for your patient & thorough presentations. ❤🧡💛

I tried to do everything at first wash 🙉🙉 I've been doing it for ages like that, since 2004!! I'm still scared to spoil my contests but I'm trying to glaze more to achieve better results lately, hope one day I may be able to show you my work, thanks again SO much for your channel, I'm learning so much from you 😊😊⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🦋

This is the exact right video for me to complete a similar botanical that even has magenta tones and curling pedals. I found it a week ago and realized that I had done the initial leaf and stem setup and then stopped out fear for how to do the petals. This is why I love following you and seeing this micro-step by micro-step development. It is welcome.

The Mind of Watercolor Steve this is beautiful! I love your style and technique it's similar to Billy Showell and oddly enough she just did an ornamental cherry on her online classes! So when are you going to start your own online classes that we can pay for? I've heard teachable .com is a good place to do classes and you have full control. Crossing my fingers you would focus on botanicals and throw in a few things here or there but I'm just being picky now. Lol. Sorry to be such a nag I'll do my best to be patient. :)

Another wonderful video! You inspire me to try so many new techniques, and while I'm happy with them, my weakness is with the initial drawing. (Mine, not yours!) It would be amazing if you could find someone to market your own drawings for sale on decent watercolor paper, and partner them with videos that we could follow along with, layer by layer; glaze by glaze. I am positive you would have an avid audience and a good income from the sales. I would love to be your first customer!

Thank you Steve for a great follow up lesson on glazing. I’ve been trying this a lot on my current piece and very happy with the results. I do find that glazing does dry pretty quickly which I’m loving. But as with all things watercolor, timing is everything. I prefer to work more slowly over slapping paint down and calling a piece done. Many can do this with good results, but it’s just not for me. I’m finally getting a grip on the style I prefer to paint in and doing it steady and slow makes all the difference. Blessings to you!

Regarding the petal with the chunky violet/orange first layer... I've been doing the "unifying wash" completely out of desperation lol, and I thought I was doing something wrong. Everyone says "light to dark".. but as a beginner it's sooo much easier to put down a light, go in with a dark (or pop of bright color), then put a medium over the top to blend the two. Everything just looks so much smoother and more consistent, like the color is in the surface instead of just on top.

    • @mindofwatercolor
      @mindofwatercolor  3 роки тому +1

Your approach is just fine and is still considered light to dark because every layer, regardless of value, makes it darker. You start light and build up to dark. There are no highlight layers added later making it lighter unless you use opaque paint.

I am new again to your channel, I forgot about you for a while, so happy I watched this episode. I would love it if you would give those who joined you a sketch of the subject and we could follow you, Like two painter I have taken classes with, Billy Showell and Anna Masson Your teachings would be another style, and having 3 masters available with different painting methods and techniques would complete my learning enjoyment. thanks for sharing this great painting with us.
