This is the best explanation of glazing I have ever heard! Thank you for demonstrating this technique and explaining the layering process, this is exactly what I need to fully understand what colors to use on the first layer and why!
BEST video on this! I am a beginner and have struggled with this step. I now know what I need to do differently. Saving this video for review. THANK YOU!!!!!!
This is so unbelievably encouraging for a beginner like myself! I've watched some artists that I love who use sooo many different colors for one painting, but seeing you create that beautiful flower with just two or three colors really changed my entire perspective. THANK YOU!!! 💖
Thank you for this video, it has been so helpful! I am new to watercolor painting and have been struggling with this. I’ve read several books and have been looking online and nowhere was the term glazing mentioned at everything I looked at. I finally know what the technique is and what I need to learn a master. Your tulip painting is absolutely gorgeous! This is definitely one of the most helpful videos. I have watched so far. You have me as a subscriber!
I love your teaching manner! I just signed up for your Patreon channel because of your straight-forward way of explaining to absolute beginner/wanna-be watercolorists the basics. You deserve to be compensated for your instruction. $6 per month for your tutorials is the best money I ever spent!
Thank you Louise! You have been a great influence in my watercolor journey! It is so generous of you to share your skills with everyone and I love your paintings!
I love color charts! Some think I have way too many, but I don't think I do. I work in prefilled pans because I do travel painting mostly, so I have to have a color chart for every set so I know how they work (also what the color actually is because the name and swatches they send aren't necessarily accurate). I've had sets that have a "garnet" that is actually red-brown and seafoam that's actually more like a Pthalo green, and pewter that dries with a cool purple tint. I do have professional tube paints, but I haven't worked with them in decades, and I have charts for those, as well as for my watercolor pencils. In my world, you can never have too many color charts.
Have to admit, I was freaking out a bit when you added the yellow on the dog's face, but once you put some on its neck etc. - wow - I could see why you did it. You are excellent!
Your videos are just wonderful, and your descriptions are thorough and clear. I absolutely love (and look forward to) your bloopers every time. I literally laugh out loud at your sense of humor. Kudos. Your watercolors are just lovely.
Ah Louise you have won my 💜..its a good job those bloopers are at the end😜 because I wouldn't be able to see your video for the tears in my eyes if they were at the start 🤣. You are tops in my books lady!!! Right up there No:1 thank you from your new west Aussie fan. Btw you are one of the very few watercolourists wno use tube paints, which is what I have😊
I came across your videos very recently, just few days back. And I want to confess that I'm in love love with your smile and the way you speak and explain. And also would like to compliment you..... you are a tremendous artist hats off👏👏
Fabulous video - as all of yours are! I would love to see a post or video about how you decide when you're going to use which technique: glazing, mixing, or wet on wet. I get the sense that you've developed the 'muscle memory' for this, but hoping you might be able to share some thoughts. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with all of us. Cheers!
I thoroughly enjoyed and learned much from this lesson on glazing. The outtakes at the end are hilarious -- you have a wonderful, deadpan sense of humor!
Hi Louise, I recently discovered your videos and these are very interesting and useful. So l have a porpose to see many of them to lern some valious tips. Any way l want to say that l love so much your funny mistakes during the record. I like so much your humor english sense. You the best. 😍🌹✨. Greetings from Chile.
Your photos are as beautiful as your paintings! I would love to have that tulip photo framed next to that painting 😍 or entirely by itself on an other wall. You are so talented watercolor artist and photographer! Thanks for sharing your painting process with us! I just love to watch and listen to you explaining how you did paint things and why 🥰.
Hands down 1 of the most talented watercolor artist on UA-cam! I'm truly blown away by your skill and the clear concise and straightforward tutorial instructions. I've learned more from you in 2 videos then 20 other tutorials. I'm truly in awe and filled with inspiration- simply Thank You!
Beautiful video! I really am learning so much from your teaching. I wondered how to get vibrancy into my paintings! This is very helpful. Have you ever heard of using baby oil to achieve an interesting affect in watercolor painting? I have not tried it.
Absolutely perfect explanation of glazing. Many years ago I took a workshop with the late Diane Maxey, who painted a lot of flowers. Her favorite color with which to glaze was yellow! It is worth noting she also advised starting out in warmer tones than needed, as it is "easier to cool a warm than warm a cool". I hope your family is safe and well. Blessings always!
This is an incredible tutorial. Thank you Louise for your wonderful videos. Your passion for teaching shines through as you share your artistic knowledge with us.
Thank you for sharing and (love your bloopers at the end )picked up some fabulous tips /techniques ...bonne soirée from over here in northwestern France
thank you so much, hopefully I can absorb this and practice in my own work. and the bloopers at the end are cute and funny. you have a unique and pleasant personality. thank you again for sharing your expertise. as an artist painting well is the number one goal. much love to you and all those around you.
Oh, my, I just love that Alizarin Crimson on those leaves!! Didn't that turn out lovely!!! This will definitely be something I try, but not necessarily when this comes to Patreon, since this is a couple of notches up from my current artistic level, lol! But can't wait to GET to it, anyway, and I'll be practicing it on some simpler things first. And overall a wonderful glazing lesson; thanks SO MUCH for sharing this with the world!!!
I love, love love your techniques! You remind me of my Design teacher in NY. You take your time explaining the process. I appreciated it so much. A quick note, I painted 30 years ago. I let it go once I had a family. I have made the steps to relearn my watercolor skills. I however find I am paralyzed and fearful of making a stroke. I know I have to "relearn" my control of watercolor, and most of all my drawings. Thank you for being patient and most of all instructive. I appreciate you.
Love your work, love your voice, I am trying the tulips. I did the glazing chart, I like the length of the projects, just getting back to watercolour and you videos are s helpful. Thank you
This is the best explanation of glazing I have ever heard! Thank you for demonstrating this technique and explaining the layering process, this is exactly what I need to fully understand what colors to use on the first layer and why!
This is absolutely the best explanation/demonstration of glazing to get luminous flowers that I've come across. And that tulip is sensational!
