I just passed my level 3 ev charging by whaching yours and john Wards videos like this. A huge thanks to you guys. Learned a lot from this contents. Time to find someone now to train me properly to start over.😅
I was lead to believe that an evse should be 2.5m away from and extreneous conductive part (as in the metal tap) or does the pen detection of the zappi cover this? Other wise neat and tidy install and waiting for a video, of an eV install from the supply in the middle of the house under the stairs
I noticed this point. The external hose near the Zappi. Amend 1 page 11 722.411.4.1 I think the external hose connected with the same earthing arrangement with the Zappi TN-C-S/ PME. So there is no earth potential. If install with TT island. That will be a issue, should be 2.5m away.
Do you have details/a link for the screwdriver adapter/extension/bit driver thingy you use? I can never seem to find anything that long and rigid (ooh err missus)!
Correct me if I’m wrong but I think you used 4mm cable feeding the Zappi Jordan. I know it’s an ultra short run, but shouldn’t it really be 6mm for 32A? Won’t the resistive heating be a bit high? Not criticising, just learning. Peter.
As so many new builds these days are actually flats with insufficient parking what do you think the solution is to charging when Petrol cars get banned?
I thought that, my sparky put a 32amp in for the Zappi, I've set the Zappi not to charge over 30amps as I'm not a electrician but running the charger near the breaker limit seems sketchy?
@@buaan no thats fine , the breaker is to prevent the charger from running more than 32A on the supply to protect the cable from melting , your zappi will only use how much you set it
Nice to see you back on the tools Jordan. One thing if you don’t mind me asking - can an EV charger be fitted to a supply that is looped off next door, does this differ by dno’s or is it a no go? I know my supply is looped and I am end of the line. The supply cable comes from the road, down next doors drive, connects into next door, around the back of the house to mine (semi detached). To put the icing on the cake, next door have just had their drive done with tarmac. The main cable in the street runs past the front of my drive too so I don’t know why they looped it, it would have been shorter to run from the street. I suppose I could report it as high Ze, it’s 0.36 on a pme but I doubt they’ll do anything.
Jordan, I know you may have changed your point of view installing anything in the meter cupboard, but if it's owned by the householder not the DNO, what is the problem? Just an historical no no ? Thanks 👍

Liked and subscribed. My olev funded podpoint was installed in a new mini cu with rcd, coming from a rcd protected breaker from the main cu. Nobody has died yet, but is this within regs or just not best practice?
Great to see the passion you show in doing a quality job Jordan. Interesting you didn't crimp the supply cable at the Zappi, which you used to preach before (neither did Cory on his last EV install)) surely not a cost cutting measure by Artisan?? lol Love the vlogs
I believe crimped ferrules are only required when it’s a multi stranded conductor. Solid single conductors are fine as is AFAIK. Folding it over is good practice to increase the screw clamp contact area.
Yes you should have electrical and building regulations certificates as well as instruction manual of the charge point, they should also have submitted a DNO notification which they may choose to give you a copy of although they aren't obliged.
Just had a zappi installed and it failed next day on pe fault 25. Found earth rod connection rusted off, so re made. Supply is not combined neutral earth. It is still going out on pe fault at end of charge, but will now reset. Car is mg zs. Any ideas?
I would connect it to the PME earth, im guessing you had an old charger and replaced it with a Zappi? Earth rod is not needed with a Zappi unless youre on a TT system for the whole house.
Let an electrician measure the impedance of that earth rod (an electrode) to the 'general mass of earth' or the 'loop impedance' to see if it generally has a high resistance that is barely good enough. Maybe parts of the rod further down into the soil is also corroded and making a poor contact to the soil around it. Then a new rod, or electrodes embedded in conductive concrete should help decrease/improve the contact resistance to the soil. Some say 'conductive concrete' works well, and reduces corrosion of metal parts embedded into the concrete. Manufacturers talk about 60 years of life expectancy.
@@NikolaiBeier . The earth loop impedance was good when fitted. Should be better now rod is reconnected. I researched and found earth settings in advanced setup. It was set on TT and I have now set it to TI, which is less sensitive. It is now not tripping and working fine. Does my fix sound OK?

Why could they not have told me that before! I now have to try to get the supply company out to do that - which will no doubt cost three times what it should and take ages! So is it true that you sparks can't add a new MCB in a CU unless the tails are dead? What's wrong with isolating the main switch in the CU??
Most likely a company health and safety policy to require the CU be completely dead inside. Personally after working in live industrial control panels I don't see any issues having live tails into a CU, but that's me...
