- John Mellencamp performs "Pink Houses" at Farm Aid III held on September 19, 1987 in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp founded Farm Aid in 1985 and serve on the board of directors. The three agreed that family farmers were in dire need of assistance and decided to plan a concert for America. Farm Aid III was held in Lincoln, Nebraska at Memorial Stadium. Artists including Emmylou Harris, Steppenwolf, Vince Gill, Lyle Lovett, John Denver, Lou Reed, Joe Walsh, and many more performed.
Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's Board of Directors in 2001 to help further Farm Aid's mission of keeping family farmers on their land.

Best days of my life the 80s
@@johnland1528 i wish i could go back
Before they called it “Americana”, there was John Mellencamp..
I attended this so am somewhere in that crowd... what a great memory. The good ol' days. :)
Lucky! Legendary performance
Me too! If you see me, wave. If I see you I shall wave. 10-11-2021
I love how he felt it during the chorus at 2:26. It's one of the greatest feelings when your doing your songs. With just a little giggle.
John Mellencamp is the epitome of a cool dude!
Yep, I remember dancing like he is in this video. Had forgotten all about that. Being a fellow Hoosier from IU but from NW Indiana, I'm proud to have Mellencamp be one of our favorite son's. Him and Bob Knight, Lol...........!!
Love, love, love Johnny Mellencamp. As an Aussie, I can understand why Americans love one of their favourite sons. A man who's not pretentious and throws everything into his songs. Cheers...
he is what America is all about, i love John Mellencamp he is American Hero
Yeah, that's why it makes no sense he's a liberal!
He is not a hero.
I just moved to Seymour,IN (John's hometown) and every time i go to check my p.o. box on Chestnut St.. I Can't help singing his "Incident on chestnut st" lol...Most of his family still live here..and his cousin is receptionist at my dental office.....Love John Mellencamp..
My mom was married to one of his cousins in the early 90s , I thoroughly enjoyed my childhood in Seymour.
Wow I just had to be there. What fabulous memories. 1987, I was younger than I am now--10-11-2021. Age 69 soon to be 70.
One thing about JM....He got into his music and it really meant something to him; he wasn't just trying to get attention
Kind of dislikes it. I think it's sad you have to fight between being an artist & celeb.
I just want to talk to you
I won't do you no harm
I just want to know about your different lives
On this here p***y farm
And he just happened to have a badass band
I was there!!! It was magical!

What a legend he rocks it out!
I've only seen him live twice, but I still feel blessed . . . What passion, thanks John
This should be our independence day song
You know forgot just how good this guy is...He is coming to my neck of the woods on Sunday and I'm gonna go.This is FN great.
My kids have no idea what good music is! I would love to take my daughter to a John Mellencamp concert! I know she would have a good time. They just cost so much more than when we used to go! lol
Oh, But we had a good time!
LOVE!! This is my favorite JM song of all time.
Wow...25 years ago. Time flies.
Almost 35 now
No doubt

I waited on him at Shoneys restaurant so many years ago..the other workers didn't recognize him! They did when I flipped out! Paid with a card name on receipt...John Mellancamp. One of life's greater moments, right?
So sorry I hit wrong letter and spelled his last name wrong on my first Post

Charles Falkler
I think it might not mean what you think it means
wow John!
He lives in a kick ass 6-10 bedroom house in Hilton Head SC
John Mellencamp from Seymore, Indiana. About the only thing Seymore is famous for but heck, it's something.
He’s my age. Love him & his music. (formerly, John Cougar & John Cougar Mellencamp...)
My favorite song by JM such a classic always a classic
Mi ricordi Bruce!! Sei fantastico John!!!😅😀😍😍😘🎸🎶🎶🎶💎💎🌟💋

spinning round and round!
Indeed, he is America's finest. I think he and the late, great Michael Hutchence resemble.❤❤❤❤❤
Great song and performance!
Beautiful 💖
He may Own a house there but his permanent (main) residence is a lakeside mansion on Lake Monroe in Bloomington,Indiana. I used to live about 2 miles from it , have since moved across town but it's HUGE ! Do a search to check out the pics of his Estate.
No he just said he would sing the way you feel never said he would give up his privalages
I see myself in the crowd! That is when I had great hair! Awesome!
LIKE OUR COUNTRY
One of the best parts of the show was when Johns backup singers, backed up Lou Reed on Walk on the wild side. Singing do de do "and the colored girls sing do de do ..."
Johnny! America's finest!

So, you unmuted John’s mic, right? Yes, of course I did…D’Oh!!!
SOME ppl. r fortunate enuf 2 have "naturally-curly hair" like John M. It sure held it's shape through a HARD-ROCKIN' concert!!;)
I have naturally curly hair when I let it grow out. Always wanted straight hair, then I watch this live performance and I think "it's not so bad".
you don't know how this song means so much to me eve kaplan!

Lord he was really gorgeous!
So Amazingly Good !!!
When he does the AL Bundy hand tuck into his pants, I've never felt more goddamn proud to be an American.
All that and dimples too.. wow
Feeling old
Love a rock band with Dobro and fiddle.
John Christ uses a dobro on the Danzig song 777.
There's ALWAYS one
2nd verse J. C. M tripped up on the line. Still great either way.
John,so Cool, But sooo 🔥Hot😊
Rock and Roll at it's best

No one can make me move like you do!💃I've loved you since I "met" you thank you for sharing your gift with us❣️
Stay well, safe, and happy🙏God Bless💜
it's okay to hear this every once in awhile on the radio traveling down the road, but I never feel like jumping up and down about it. Some in the audience obviously feel different about that.
AWESOME
That poor pink house was barely standing last time through there. Some things stay the same but most things change.
fabuloso john!! uno de mis idolos
when you realize that the New-Grass/Progressive Americana genre would witness a substantial revival in the late 2000's, it kinda puts this particular line-up slightly ahead of their time.
♥
Long beautiful hair***
It was nice
0:40 ok let me get this straight, Tyson one of the biggest factory farms on the planet has an advertisement right on the farm aid stage. I don't get it and its almost like the TV camera is avoiding the long shot 99% of the time.
cool!
Looks like he was channeling Joe Cocker there for a bit after 2:30
THAT WAS YEARS AGO. . LOOK AT HIS HAIR
I KNOW=but Still LOVIN' it!;
And if you didn't raise your fist and shout "GULF OF MEXICO" while watching this, you're not a real American. That should be on the citizenship test.
OMG...🔥🔥🔥😋
yup, he did, he said a black man in a tee shirt, originally "young man in a tee shirt"
Originally it was "black man in a Tee shirt".
The days of growing up I wanna farm
Ain't that America
Was this at Lincoln, NE? If so, I was there! geez can't remember what year it was but I remember it being a blast being there! I remember they covered the football field at Memorial stadium and when the concert was done there was SO many booze bottles and trash that I think they never again duplicated having a concert like that again at least at that time since it was such a mess. I don't remember if the field was compromised from it or not! anyone else at this concert if it was the one at
LIKE THIS SONG THEN YOU ALL NEED TO WAKE UP TERRIOST ARE VERY ACTIVE WAKE UP OPEN YOUR EYES
Zelda still loves John Mellencamp.
Omg that hair
Local anethesia...no more comments...
Like the song "cherry Bomb"
80s rocked
Good song to rise up and get a little Boston tea party going. Damn taxes
Yes it should
Just realized after all these years that Jerry Seinfeld played accordion in JCMs band.
if only JCM would just sing. one of the truly best entertainers I've paid to see....if only he would stfu about politics and stop they thing he always says he doesn't do--political correctness
Who's here 2024 after Trump stood up fists in the air yelling "fight!" Winners and losers for sure. 👌
Super das gefällt mir super
love John, but I am pretty sure he mucked up the words on this one
Looks like he was in his prime then.
I've always wondered just how much of that money raised actually went to help save "family" farms. Never have been able to get an answer to that question. In fact, simply asking that question seems to provoke anger and abuse.
