I've seen some of the old glass insulators and the glass beads instantly reminded me of them. The telephone poles add dimension & perspective, giving a sense of distance that makes the entire layout look bigger and more real. Does the village of Grapevine has a winery? 😎
That looks great. I actually saw the grass by the water tower before you said what it was and I made the comment. Oh wow, he grew grass up there too. What a cool idea coming along nicely. The telephone poles with the insulators at a nice touch. Thank you for sharing.
UA-cam recommended this to me and in the first 2 or 3 minutes you earned my subscription. Definitely up my alley of interests, and very splendid ideas and tips you presented.
I've been thoroughly enjoying this series. Everything looks incredibly good. I had to make my own telephone poles. They look 100 times better than anything thats out there to buy. FYI, I found a guy on youtube that makes incredible 1:18 and 1:32 scale modern house models (BK Miniatures) and he uses turf for grass from Amazon. It really good looking stuff.
Nice one. Great to see Grape Vine developing. Always enjoy your videos. If my math is correct you guys have a significant anniversary this year. Keep up the good work.
The end results looks awesome Dale…I can almost see the crew taking a break, heading to the local general store and picking up a RC cola and Moon Pie! 😂 well at least I know the ole railroaders on the narrow gauge in my neck of the woods done that! I’ve enjoyed your newly discovered techniques enlightening.
Perpendicular? Sounds like fun. Eyeing it would be ok too as you should trust yourself. The G scale mantra is: " If it looks good from 10 feet, it's ok." But the details are the fun of it all. And it's satisfying.
Like the grass and thinking about using some of that on mine now, thanks for sharing. Not to the poles you should look at the real ones are not always perfectly straight up. Thanks for sharing a ll these idea
Hello from romulus Michigan brother thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise sorry i have been working screwy schedules. Sorry. I have not been able to watch your videos or comment as often as I would like
Ok, what you did with that artificial turf looks amazing. Some of your photo's made it look like real grass. I'll have to hunt some of that down, I think I can use it on my good old American Flyer railroad! Should be better than my old Life Like sprinkle grass
Great vidio, grass looks good. been laying some n scale track by putting down double sided tape 1"and then lay and test track then ballist over track and tape getting you a great track. thanks first lunch...
Looking at your telephone/telegraph poles brought some questions and observations to my mind. My first thought is that I think the poles should be more grey than that brown, as the poles would experience some weathering as they are stockpiled for use in erecting the lines, and even more so after they are raised and put into us. Also the poles would be more like tree trunks that have had the branches trimmed off than machined pieces of dowel. I know that is a little bit of nitpicking as you have to rely on what the manufacturers of the pieces achieve with their plastic extrusions and molds. Speaking of bugs, do you have termites or white ants in America? Here in Australia, it can be so bad that if you stand still with a wooden leg, they start chewing on it. Anyway, to hinder the little monsters, telephone and power poles are well sprayed with creosote around the base, and then lit up, so there is always a blackened base on the poles. Another item of use is some poles have to have stay wires to add tension to a pole where the lines divert off in a different direction, creating stress on the pole by the weight of the lines. One last thing to remember, is that there should always be a crossarm on the side of a building where lines come off the main line of poles, and that crossarm should also have insulators, maybe only two or three. Sorry, one more suggestion. If you have a large bridge, the telegraph/telephone lines can be mounted on the sides of the bridge or even on the top. I remember quite well that back in the days, that is up to about the 1960's, that is how the lines were carried across the river, mounted on the local railway bridge.
Hmm, interesting, I’m not gonnna lie getting things to be perfectly to scale has never been a goal, for myself, of course, my railroad could be a bit big to get things to scale properly… since I use lgb trains, but I am getting into Lionel o scale, now that I made the decision to get the hogwarts express. From Lionel… which I will have to see how this all works out… having a g scale railroad, with 1 o scale train for now, which will probably be the extent to which I get into o scale railroad…
Dale your and Karen layout look so real with the ballast and the turf mates that it is hard to believe that it isn't a real railroad somewhere.
@@earlfreeman93 thanks!!!!! Sure fun doing it too!😀🚀🚀🚂
I may have missed it, but, sure would like to see more of your trains running all around your cool layout. You certainly very crreative!!
Great video, I'm saving this one to watch again. Great job!!! ❤️🙏

How about an overall tour of the model railroad on how it looks today. Not just individual scenes.

I have to say that the artificial turf looks amazing, everywhere you put it. I especially like the grassy hill.

My grandpa had a collection of glass insulators and those beads look spot on! Great modeling sense. 👍
@@drewzero1 I love them!

Now you string up those telegraph poles.
I did that with mine. It looked AMAZING until it all got destroyed a week later from heavy snow. haha.
I would love that, or a working caternary like Melbourne Sparks, but between kids and chipmunks it wouldn't last long!
That drill jig is called a guide block. A machinist uses one for starting a screw threaded hole. It really works well.
Great information and beautiful modeling . The artificial grass you used is fantastic. I have never seen material that looks so real in any gauge.

Well done! Excellent photography. Wonderful modeling. Great story telling. Thoroughly enjoyed this!
Thank you for running some trains .. fantastic
That looks great gave me some ideas for my N scale layout I am starting just in small scale grass.
Thanks
GOD BLESS 🚂💕🚂💕🚂💕🚂💕

Is there a Mango season or do they come in all year?
Looking fabulous

Great work with the ballast and the artificial grass. Plus! The ride at the end of the video on the train.

Maybe you could carve and paint the round plastic bases at the bottom of the street lights to look like stone masonry footings.
Really good video. Still wish ya'll lived next door. You would have to move east to NE Atlanta
Nice looking railroad, it’s been fun watching the progress. Good stuff
@@johnmalley4355 thanks!!! 🙏
24:65…. Amazing! I love it!
Your outdoor railroad is looking really good do you have any plans in the future to extend the track

Make one lean with a sister pole.. like one was repaired.

Now that you're done with this project i have a new one for you: PLEASE fix the "chuff" rate on your loco. It's driving me crazy! 😁
