- Without a doubt, some of the most asked questions I get are about purple shampoo. But is it weird that I love talking about it? So I don't mind all the questions! Purple shampoo is a pretty important part of my beauty routine and probably thee most important step to keep my hair the whitish/gray color it is. I love it and am pretty passionate about it. So today I thought I would hit a couple birds with one stone and make a video to answer FAQs I get about purple shampoo! Let me know if you have anymore questions and I will be happy to answer them.

I don't know why everyone give others the awkward look when they tell them they wash their hair once or twice a week, it's actually good for the hair because washing it so many times strips the hair follicles, the root from its natural oils so it produces more oils than it should be and that's why it gets oilier and dirtier when you leave it two days unwashed...
Totally agree with all of that and those are all of the reasons of why I don't wash my hair every day :)
Kad Fayrouz ever since I've bleached my high (full foils) I'm able to go like without showering for awhile.. I guess people just take it as we aren't clean but just cause we don't wash our hair doesn't mean we do clean our body

Exactly! My hair has been bleached and processed a lot. That's y i only wash it once a week. If I wash it every other day it gets rly dry!
My hair takes about a month without a wash to get oily, and even then it's only at the roots. My hair is so dry naturally, even when it wasn't bleached. I wash it about once a fortnight and I have to rub oils into it all the time for it not to feel like straw.

Outstanding, thank you for answering many questions. No judgments on washing your hair once a week, I do the same, but my white and grey are natural, and if I wash it more than that, it dries out my hair and it looks brittle. I stopped using purple shampoo as it gives my grey hair a purple tone, and my silver hair white, so I just spritz my hair every morning with a mixture of conditioner and a little bit of purple conditioner in a bottle of water. Very interesting that your hair turns yellow from the sun, maybe because your hair is not natural? The sun makes EVERY silver hair I have super white in the summer. Outstanding video!!

Love your hair. Also: you discuss why hair takes in that yellowish every few weeks and I always thought it's really due to your hairs biology or .....melanin (?). In that it's not irons or muck in the air but literally your body/hair follicles just doing what it does- reverts to yellows etc.

I recommend the matrix no yellow it’s blue not purple.
Hello @whippycake !! I just recently watched your purple shampoo video about using it while its dry. I wanted to ask you how often do you do that process in a week? Just once a week I suppose right? I recently went to the salon and got my hair bleached to a platinum blonde color but I would really like to get it to your hair color. I was amazed by the drastic difference to using the purple shampoo on dry hair and how it brightened out so much. I'll be doing that process tomorrow to see how it goes for me!!
Hi. I have been researching "purple shampoos" and found this super helpful. I stopped dying my hair almost eight months ago after YEARS of coloring. I get an allergic reaction to hair dye and took Benadryl before my appointments to help with the itching etc. So my question is do you think using a purple shampoo and conditioner with cause me the same problem? I know you can't know for sure how my scalp will react - but I have no idea if these products are similar to hair dye. Thanks for your help.
I wash my platinum hair 3X weekly, its an oily mess, I use dry shampoo in between washings. I've been using a few drops of purple shampoo in my regular hydrating shampoo...hair color is PERFECT.

Hi Whip! What is the con side of the purple shampoos? Can we use it more often?
If your hair turns purple after leaving the purple shampoo in too long, you can also use dawn dish soap to help get out the purple streaks.

Am a 64 yo Goddess on a budget so Clairol Highligts work for me even tho it contains SLS. I see a difference after only 2 weeks...my grey is brighter. Love it. Having red hair I only wash my hair once every 4 days. It helps keep my red hair fresh and it doesn't fad as fast as if I were washing it every day.

I am heading towards the gray/silver color of my hair to blend it with my gray roots to keep from having to color or tone as often. I'm looking for a good shampoo to help with that process. Right now I am actually toned a med ash blond lol from my toner grabbing too quickly, and darkening it that dark after just being on for 5 mins. I know that will fade quickly during shampooing though, so I'm not concerned about that. My blonde underneath is about a level 7 or 8. I'm debating between needing to use the purple or the silver shampoo in this brand to help me get to where I'm going. Have you ever used the silver shampoo, and if so which do you suggest for my goal?

I wash my hair once a week too! It took me awhile to get there but it does not get oily.
I bought my first organic shampoo which name is Argan Rain and loved it. The lather was good and my hair was really shiny. Maybe its the improvement in the formula since this article was written. Using natural shampoo is definitely worth the money and effort to find the really good ones. I bought from Argan Rain products’ website.

If your hair is already a level 8, and you want to play it safe, could you use a purple conditioner as opposed to a purple shampoo to tone the hair?

i have a problem!! :'( I'm currently bleaching my hair to blonde.. and I did a test strand to see how well it bleaches and how much brassiness will occur..well, luckily it didn't turn gold, but it was a mixture of blonde and little of orange. To remove that brassiness, I made a DIY toner. I kinda used a semi permanent aubergine purple along with a conditioner. It became quite a dark color, and I kept it for about 5-10 mins on my hair. After washing my hair just turned the same shade as the color!! I don't know what to do now..please help me..:'(

I have natural ashy blond hair my roots are probably a leave 7 and than my Dyed parts are around 9. So I wash my roots with regular shampoo and than I’ll but in my blonde brilliant on the dyed parts

I'm confused about the argument that heat, especially the sun can darken your hair (the tanning bed analogy). I might be missing something obvious but I'm pretty sure the sun makes your hair lighter? No matter what your hair colour is. Is that not correct?

Hello great video, I have a question? I bleached my hair starting with the color black, I did this two time but got frustrated because I couldn't get the golden blonde that I wanted. I then put in Ion Demi permanent color' Very light blonde' and I love it. Does the purple shampoo do anything for Demi color, my hair will lighten after I few shampoo's back to a almost white color I had before using the color.

I wash my hair once every one to two weeks..😂 People can't belive when I say that.. But it's true! It use to get oily after 2 days. The longer I went, the less oil my scalp produced. Even when I do wash it, it's to get product out, it's very actually rarely oily. 👍

Kristy Stacy no it won't! Because they both are shampoos and they are there to do the same job. If you're wanting to make sure it works use the purple shampoo after regular shampoo. I use the purple shampoo and then go back with regular because my purple shampoo doesn't clean well

I just had my hair done and my ends lifted to mint green. After the stylist tried to tone it, the mid section (where the bleach lifted color properly) turned brassy and the ends because ashy with a green tint. What would purple shampoo do in this case?
Dalia H you would use something red toned (opposite color on the color wheel) if you want to neutralize it. If you want it to stay green then get a shampoo that deposits green (yes they have hat too).

I much prefer the Blond Brilliance lathering toner. Its super underrated, and its super pigmented! Unlike other purple shampoos, it doesnt dry out my porous hair at all.

Why does my hair always turn purple/grey when I use purple shampoo trying to get rid of my yellow/brassiness tones (right next to my roots n some threw out) n I use clarifying shampoo to take the purple color out it takes out the “toning” the purple shampoo just did…What else can I try/use to get this brass out???
