This is one of those rare songs that you could play to someone who has never even heard of Shooting Star and their eyes would bug out and be thinking "This shit rocks"
@@richavic4520 Their label fucked them. Did a piss-poor job (at best) in taking care of them. The actions of their label more or less led to the downfall of people like Ron Verlin, who left the band, and Gary West, who not only left the band but left the music industry altogether.
They got overlooked because they quit after the record company that was in charge of releasing their album went under & the promotion for it got reduced from around 300-40 radio stations promoting it... Lead singer (Gary West) got disillusioned & called it quits & never returned to the business...& his singing really did carry the band. They continued on eventually (& still do shows I do believe...but their other main singer passed away a few years back also...& their original violinist...Charles Waltz...was amazing also but had moved on before they reformed) but never had the level of quality from the original days unfortunately.
St Louis & K-SHE 95 loves and supported SHOOTING STAR, MISSOURI, APRIL WINE, etc. It's such a crime that all of them never reached the level they deserved !!!
what k-she still here problem is they didn't get alot airtime throughout the country and hate to say it through MTV if anybody can culture club a star that was type they was back then
Gary West was indeed a great all around musician.... But....his health was an issue ....although.....he actually chose to leave the music business on just being disheartened with the whole thing music biz .
Being 50 now, and having lived in Missouri all my life, I grew up with this music on the airwaves. Without a doubt, all the DJ's from KYYS 102.1 didn't hesitate to mention that these boys were from our neck of the woods. They rocked us at Memorial Hall a few years back in Kansas City, Kansas.
Amen. Got to see them live in KC in Nov 2019 before the virus hit and they were great. Havent been to a concert since. Got Judas Priest coming in Oct in Independence Mo. Sure hope it doesn't get canceled. Shout out to Max & Tanna. Von Mack midnight to 6.
Forgot about "Shooting Star", shame on me, a Kansas boy and all. Love it when I hear a song that has been dropping slight pieces of earworms for years and YEARS, and then finally some caring soul has uploaded this, more importantly I stumbled across it, and filled in those missing pieces, completing the jam, and finding more forgotten jams hopefully preventing those fragmented earworms! KY102, now let's see off the top of my head, Dick and Jay were AM, Katie McGucken? afternoon, and Skid Roadie to drive us, well, Mom and Dad were driving me home back in the 1980's. I swear I pulled those names off the top of my brain! Man 102 and Memorial Hall kick off a bunch of good memories, thanks for that, the last show I saw there was NIN, Marilyn Manson, and the Jim Rose Circus Sideshow. Yep! That was one for the memory banks. NIN showcasing Marilyn M., and most people weren't used to an opening band coming out in a 10" black strap-on ensemble to perform... musically, and after the 'Side Show', I'm not sure most people were ready for that, but NIN killed it!
Lets face it, it is 2024 and they still sound as great as if they were a band from today. I saw them in the late 1970's in San Juan Puerto Rico, then I came to Iowa State and saw them around 1982 playing there, talked to the guitarist, such a nice guy and told him I had seen them in San Juan at the end of the concert in AMES IOWA. What a great rock band, thanks for me identifying with the midwest and Iowa/Minnesota, I owe all of my happiness to you guys.
I love this song so much. So blessed to have been a part of an era that had so many talented bands with awesome music. To name just a few: Rush,Zebra,Triumph,The Police,Rainbow,Dio,Ozzy,Scorpions,MSG,Y&T,Iron Maiden,Judas Priest,Saxon,Accept,Krokus,Journey,Foreigner,Styx,Pink Floyd and many many more to even mention.
Forgot Scorpions...& Floyd's last album (the Wall) with the main lineup (not original with Barret but the lineup on all their most popular albums) came out at that time but they definitely predate that era by over a decade.

First concert in Topeka, KS. Unbelievable experience, saw them every time they were in the area afterwards. We rocked sooo hard to the songs of Shooting Star. The 80's were awesome. It's a shame they were overlooked.
Wow this takes me back to the 80's. Friday nights. Cruising with my buddy in his 'Vette. T-tops out and SS giving the Jensen stereo all it could handle! Never understood how Kansas could achieve mega-stardom, yet it seems nobody has ever heard of Shooting Star?
Kansas had better marketing, thanks to being with a major label. Shooting Star was the first American band to sign with Virgin Records, who at that point were more interested in Mike Oldfield and the Sex Pistols in the UK.
This is BADASS!! So many memories! Ya know, if MTV played what was popular amongst the record buying audience and not played rich stupid asses videos that paid for airplay they would've had a bigger viewing audience. These guys were awesome!!!
I show them on this tour when they opened for Triumph the night I graduated high school - May 18, 1980. Instead of partying I saw them and hadn't heard of them. Couple years later I bought their first two LPs and they're classics! I have III Wishes, Burning, and Silent Scream, but they sort of fizzled from how they started out. I just finished recording the debut and this song has always been my favorite from them.
Grew up in KC. Saw them at Memorial Hall in KCK in probably 1980. Saw a lot of concerts over those years, but Shooting Star was hard to beat.......by anybody. Now 35 years later I am back into high end two-channel stereo and VINYL............Found a mint condition Japanese pressing of their first album and it sounds like you are in the studio with them. Man they were great. We hurt a lot of brain cells at Memorial Hall in the late 70's and early 80's. Ha!
Maybe you can help me beings you such a fan. I remember a song that Shooting Star did prob early 80's it was a heavy pounding song and I just can't remember the title. The first line in the song is "I'm feelin good ! Knew that I would!" Then I am freakin lost and I can't find it. Help ?
I love the transition @2:46 where it seems like we are transported into a dream 'tonight', with that heavy and simple bassline carrying us through until the morning (too deep?) :)
A mate of mine was the recording engineer for this group and told me about them today. WOAH!! As Awakened Won said, "This shit rocks". Cheers Stewy Eales.
I have loved Shooting Star's debut album and this song since 1980. How is it that I am just now finding out that this video exists? I wonder if they would have been bigger if MTV was around in 1980.

Blame lack of exposure

they are from kansas city
I'll give you the hard truth..... They never pandered to the criminal Kayzar Jews who own the music business.

Great Kansas City band that never got the recognition they deserved.
Did better in Europe ....
@@content4502 hear that a lot.
