Nicely work! As one who has done a couple of these conversions I can testify as to how straightforward the process is. With each of mine I also changed the spring towers and converted to quad shocks. Early on in your video I knew you would discover the fact that the 2WD & 4WD radius arms were not the same. Others may find it helpful to know the 2WD radius arms from F250 & F350 trucks will work for F150 4WD applications.

nice. however, at 41:00 -ish, I see a Ford Power Steering Pump. That can be swapped to a Saginaw unit from the econoline vans (with bracket as well)! Had huge problems trying to get my '78 f150 quiet and found these Saginaws on the van and **bam** nice.
edit: oh and I grabbed the Serpentine belt and 3g alternator and bracket ... and '96 4.9l efi manifolds and efi and ... lol,

Nice Zf5 swap. Did the same with my 89 f150 with a 302. Had to move the crossmember back 3" and had to customize the driveshafts to fit

It should work with any crossmember that was 4x4 for the M5R2 and the ZF5. The AOD and the T18 are incompatible. However I had a friend cut and weld more steel on so it would work properly! Other than that it was all bolt on with no issues.

Ford built those bricknose F-series pickups & Broncos from 1987 through 1991. The pickups are the eighth generation F-series & the Broncos are the fourth generation Broncos. I still see a lot of the pickups out on the roads today, but the Broncos on the other hand, I don't see many around anymore like I use to back in those days.

When doing the zf conversion, make sure you use the clutch and slave cylinder that matches the year of clutch master cylinder you are using. Brick nose master cylinders have a .81something or other bore , and the aeronose master cylinders have a .76ishortheother bore and won’t move enough fluid to operate the older slave cylinder/throw out bearing. And they mount to the firewall completely different. So it’s not as easy as just swapping the master cylinders. At least not without some major mods

    • @flatheadlarry7977

I have a 96 F250 4x4 with 5 speed behind a 460. The truck is rotted out , but the running gear is perfect. Id like to run a small block in another truck. Or transfer the transmission to the small block. Is there an adapter plate in front of the transmission??? It seems you said that the heavy 5 speeds would fit the small block pattern. Also have 2, 6.9 IDI automatic trucks. What would need to be done to fit the 460 , 5 speed to them? I know I'll need the flywheel of course. Both of my C6 autos are toasted. I live within my means. I am mechanically inclined but lack experience. I am attached to my 1989 f250 2 wheel drive as it is from Nevada and has absolute no rust. It needs paint job and rear main seal but has 351 Windsor efe engine. it needs lots of cosmetic work but I know engine is solid as is everything else. Yeah it sways like a boat on grooved roads maybe shocks and sway bar bushings. I need guidance to let it go or to convert it to 4x4 since I now live in south Dakota. does it make sense to convert it, or being economically responsible is this a road to avoid going down? I have found what I want it to be and see listings for over 20,000. I am not able to buy that finished truck, but willing to spend money over time. Please anyone advise me to help me know it this dream is not realistic. I hear many people saying divorced transfer case and such, I just want to realize if my dream is financially responsible withing my working means. Thank you. The f250 is a lot more involved than the f150. Your truck has coil springs, the 4x4 uses leaf springs. You would need spring hangers, leaf springs, track bar, driveshaft, Transfer case, linkages, shifter, the front axle gears need to match rear axle gears. And you will need the axle. Honestly, if you have mechanical skill, it's a pretty easy conversion, just have to be mechanically inclined. I would recommend that you call Skys Off road or Google them. They have the frame boxes that are required for you to attach front spring hangers. Not expensive, I believe 250ish. You can find an F350 solid axle or find the dana 50 twin traction beam from any f250 from 80-97.
