    Wow what a great Channel. I love you're videos.
    I just wondering if it is necessary to ad any Preservation? Anything again bacteria, fungus and stuff?
    How long can the finished diluted liquid soap hold before it expired?
    Thank you so much. I learn so much. Please keep up the great work you do. 🥰

    Hey, my liquid soap made with a combination of 3-4 different vegetable oils leaves white spots/white film on the dishes and also does not seem to be cleaning oily dishes too well.....will I encounter the same issue with 100% coconut oil liquid soap?......any suggestions would be helpful as to why I am getting this issue. TIP: To get to trace faster: Using normal technique, combine when oils are 160°F (71°C) and lye solution is 140°F (60°C). Stir by hand, then SB (on and off) to trace 12 - 15 minutes, over low to medium-low heat. (Maintain temp at 160°F (71°C) until trace occurs.

      @@TheScraftworks You're welcome! It is cold process, Catherine Failor method. The temps when you combine oils & lye are important. It jump starts the natural heat of the saponification process. No external heat is used to process as in HP.

      Great Tip....also wanted to ask, can I stop blending cold process liquid soap once very light trace is achieved and then setting it aside for 3-4 days for the soap to do all the hardwork on its own and thicken to consistency above or do I need to go all the way and thicken it to heavy trace as done in the video above. In the cold process solid soap bar, I usually put it in the mould at light trace and comes out great.....not sure about the liquid soap, whether I can take the same liberty.....kindly guide @ceemoorhead372 @TheScraftworks

    • @ceemoorhead372
      @ceemoorhead372 Рік тому

      @@karan25535 KOH soap takes longer to trace than NaOH soap. So, No, don't stop at light trace. 100% Coconut Oil will reach hard trace in about 12 minutes if you keep it at 160°F while stickblending over heat. BUT. Your SB may overheat so it's best to use it on/off, stirring in between. I then cover it or put it in a ZipLoc for 2 weeks to reach full saponification. I test with phenolphthalien drops before diluting. Stick a knife in and pull it out. Add a drop to the blade. If pink, it isn't ready. Wait a day or 2 more until the drop is perfectly clear. HTH

    Maybe I'm just lazy but it seems like you could do it all in the one container, especially because the plastic container and lid will retain the heat better than a metal bowl will.

    Which type of coconut oil did you use for this recipe? Actually I bought coconut oil but its liquid at almost room temperature. And there's nowhere written on the packing whether its 72 degree or 90 degree or whatever. It only says 100% pure coconut oil. In this case, which coconut oil should I enter in the soap calculator for knowing the sap and correct quantity of lye needed?

    • @TheScraftworks
      @TheScraftworks  2 роки тому +2

      72 degree is most commonly found coconut oil and you can choose that one in the calculator. I also find choosing either one would work since the lye weight doesn’t change regardless which one I choose in my experience. The different degrees just means how the coconut oil has been processed and the 92degree one will melt at higher temperatures. Hope this helps!!

      Liquid soaps have a high pH which prevents growth of bacteria but you want to be on the safe side, preservatives should be added. It is important to use one that can survive in a high pH. Hope this helps!

      Yes for liquid soaps you usually sequester it for a few weeks either diluted or undiluted. You can use it right away but the soap turns better after sequestering.

    did you say that the soap paste made by coconut oil turns in to a hard paste...how hard exactly ...fully cured cold process soap 'hard'??

    • @TheScraftworks
      @TheScraftworks  4 роки тому

      Yes if you can see the coconut oil soap paste compared to the olive oil soap paste is relatively harder. How hard the soap paste will depend on the temperature of your area, so the hotter it is the softer it is, I would say around the texture of playdo. The hardness doesn’t really change after the full saponification process has taken place.

    • @TheScraftworks
      @TheScraftworks  4 роки тому

      I’m not sure if that will b a good idea to have such a high super fat for liquid soap since it will definitely be cloudy and the probability of it going rancid and other bacteria growth will be much higher.

      You supposed to add ECOCERT preservative., And oil disperser in liquid like polysorbate 20 or 80...

    • @jessl1934
      @jessl1934 3 роки тому

      If you made a 20% superfat liquid soap from coconut oil alone I suspect that you would run the risk of having lumps of hard coconut oil in your soap, depending on the temperature of your home.
      Given that superfat is simply unsaponified oil, there would be difference between making a 20% SF soap and making a soap like in the video above but measuring out the paste, diluting it, and adding 20% of the weight of the paste in coconut oil. This test would save you from having a whole batch of ruined soap.
      Honestly if you are going to opt for a high superfat in liquid soap then you should opt for an oil that stays liquid such jojoba, sunflower, or olive oil imo.

      I’ve never tried using aloe Vera gel in liquid soap. You can give it a try I guess the amount will be taken from the water amount but it will important to test to compatibility. I’ll also just use plain aloe Vera since commercial gels also have other things in it which will affect the stability of the product. One of the preservatives you can try is Germall plus, or any one that can survive a pH of 8+ around 1-3%.

      I’m not sure if here is a natural way to preserve it. If you want a chemical way you can try using suttocide a, glydant plus and the amount you use depends on your total quantity and the preservative you use. You should find out how big of your bottle you want to use before picking on the quantity of soap to dilute and how concentrated you want your soap to be.
