Hi Stephen! My grandfather Carlos VAzquez CORnejo founded Vacor de Mexico!! We used to swim in giant boxes of marbles when we were kids :) My father, Alejandro Vazquez, wants you to know he'd be happy to talk to you about the factories if you are interested. He and his brother Jorge had another marble factory in the 90s. It was called Perfect Glass and it was in Queretaro. Saludos!!!
Wow Stephen I didn't know Mexico had so many varieties and a lot of them are quite beautiful. I really enjoy watching your videos and your expertise on marbles.
A wealth of knowledge. Bookmarked. I collect marbles and just getting into identifications. Mostly get them cruising thrift stores. I recently picked up a couple hundred frosted marbles for $5. I actually bought the bag for the other marbles. I thought The frosted ones were some other type of decoration and was going to toss them. Glad to see many of them in this video. Anyways, glad videos don’t wear out like books because I’ve now spent countless hours on this one. Sleuthing for some type of identification is as much fun as finding them in thrift stores. Fun to be an old guy collecting marbles again. Much appreciated. Thanks.
A good friend of mine gave me my first handful of Vacors yesterday and and I'm hooked! (The "twister" shooter alone was enough to knock my socks off.) I'm on a limited budget and interested mostly in the aesthetic qualities of marbles--to me they're miniature glass sculptures--so I'm perfectly content to collect Vacors exclusively, which I intend to do. I love their variety, eye-popping colors, and rich surface textures. As beautiful as they are affordable. Viva Vacor!
I will add that the marbles with the irridized finishes leave me cold: I really love surface texture, particularly the seams between the different colored glass that are left by the manufacturing process. The irridized finish robs the marbles of their character. Doesn't matter if you're just playing with them but if your main point of interest in marbles is aesthetic, it's a letdown.
So Awesome, thank you for spending the time to make this Stephen! I enjoyed how informative, how you segregated the groupings, and your enthusiasm! Because of people like you, It furthers a broader appreciation for these wonderful marbles made in Mexico, which hold a high status that is escalating in the marble collecting community! in the future if you seek photos of certain types, it is most likely I have some I could share, I have about 210 different types now, Cheers!
Thanks Yapyap , I’ve filmed some videos with the ex owners of the company. I hope to be editing and uploading them soon. They had a lot of good stuff to say ! 🟢⚪️🔴
This video was amazing to help me confirm my frosted Michaelangelo marble thanks very much! I was also able it identify a frosted Artic Bear which is just so pretty
Stephen ! Your amazing and really informative. I always get that much smarter watching your videos. I wish I can show you some of my marbles that I can’t identify or find online at all. I would really love if you did a Jabo marble ID video.
Hello Stephen, I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos, and I want to express my gratitude for creating such outstanding content. Have you had a chance to identify the marble that was previously unnamed? Wishing you all the best in life.
The one at 21:15, I’m not sure if that one’s a velociraptor, typically they’re purple based, with green and red stripes, maybe it’s a rare prototype. Your collection is awesome, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Coincidence. I returned home from the thrift store with a box of marbles. I clicked on this Vacor marble identification video. I started cataloguing a few and and down below see a site on hummingbirds not knowing at first it’s also your video. I will make a posting on it.
4:33 man, you are not freaking kidding! I look for frosted Michaelangelo's every day and I can't find a damn thing lol! Found a couple other valcor gems I'm not going to mention until I actually purchase them 😂 to give myself a chance lol
Hi just a question for you about the Dragon marble by Vacor. We are sea glass collectors and have just found one which we believe would be The Dragon. When were they first created? We live in Puerto Vallarta, so it makes sense to find it.
The Jungle looks similar to D.A.S. Moon Dog. I bought a few Jungle and bid and I think I was high bidder on Moon Dog. I want to see comparison. Would be nice if someone would publish a Vacor/Mega guidebook.
They should be able to differentiate: Jungle is different because it has a transparent green base . Contact Andy Mc Laughlin , he has a complete guide book. Gracious
Do you know of any good books about marble identification? I collect antique bottles and know pretty much all there is to know about them, however a couple of weeks ago I dug up some pontiled swirl marbles in an 1880's privy and can find scant info about them online. I really dont care about their value, just their history and manufacture. Surely there are good marble books out there. Also, great info on these Mexican marbles man.
Collecting Antique Marbles by Paul Baumann and Everett Grist's Big Book of Marbles should help. They have full color photos with descriptions for most of the if I rmember correctly.
I have some vacors that you didn't show. I know they're vacors, I bought them new but for the life of me I can't remember all their names. Is there a photo gallery or photo chart showing all of them, at least from the 90s-2013?
There are several photo charts online if you google Vacor De Mexico. There is also a very informative book by Andy McGlaughlin called “For The Love of Vacors” that covers everything they produced.
@stephenbahrmarbles I looked on Amazon and ebay. I can't find this book. from a Google search, I read there's 2 books (1st & 2nd edition) but can't find either 😢
Hi Stephen, help me Mr. Wizard ! I just bought a large lot of Vacors that I need to ID. Your video helped but nevertheless I still haven't a clue about most of them. I'm sending you a picture to show you what I got. If you have some type of catalogue or a picture book I'll buy it from you. I really need some help Stephen and your my go to guy. Any help would be greatly appreciated kind Sir. Great videos BTW I really enjoy them. Thank you so much Amigo
Yes they’re the same marble, different nickname. The Guacamayas are thought to be earlier versions by some collectors, that’s the label they used for Canadian exports I believe.
@@stephenbahrmarbles Hey, I'm new to this. Just trying to help Amigo. 😁. I'm still bidding and getting. My mailman doesn't mind; I remember him during the holidays.
