I helped split some cyprus shakes for My Vernon. I found a clay pipe on Douge Creek near the grist mill. The archeologicist decided it was a drop. Disagreement on the reason of his death? I’d say he had throat infection and draining 40% of his blood was literally the nail in the coffin. And I heard the older physician would not allow the young physician to perform a tracheotomy when his throat swelled shut. But after losing 40% of his blood, the tracheotomy might have only prolonged his suffering.
I visited Mt. Vernon on a field trip in 8th grade. Before entering, we had to go through a ticket booth run by 2 older ladies. As we walked through, one of the ladies said "Nobody gets past us without a ticket!", while the other lady nodded her head in vehement agreement. And this all happened just as me and my buddy walked past without showing our tickets 😝

Jefferson actually bought vegetables from his slaves who were allowed to grow their own food. Read "Founding Gardeners" as a reference.

Washington couldn't have legally freed most of the Mt. Vernon slaves as the majority of them belonged to Martha.
