    The XP-Pen astist 10 is the smallest and cheapest screen based drawing tablet you can buy at $170. But even at that great price is it worth it or does it cut to many corners?

    I have this Artist 10. And comparing it with all the screenless stuff I've used, it's a good tablet and worth the extra price. The size does impose some limits that make it not ideal for fine inking, but as a tool for fullscreen sketching and painting it's basically the equivalent of A5 sketchbooks, which I think are just great. I found that I want to use traditional for inking anyway, so my process has gradually become "plan and rough out the illustration digitally, transfer it to paper, finish in ink, scan, color digitally".

    I got this tablet in blue for my birthday and it's been two months and I love it. As my first drawing tablet, it's nice, wasn't too expensive, the size is nice for my workspace, I would recommend this to beginner. Its a good purchase.

    I ended up replacing my not so gracefully aging Wacom Cintiq 13HD with this EXACT same tablet and I honestly with the XP Pen Artist 10 existed years ago. The performance of this new little tablet works just as good as a tablet from Wacom that cost quadruple more a few years back. Now the tablet is pretty dang small... That might bother some folks, me? Not so much, my hands are pretty small so the screen's size isn't too bad. Another good thing to mention about the screen is that the satin surface is a screem protector that can be replaced. As far as I know Wacom does not sell screen protectors. As for the tablet's pen? I do wish it was just a tad thicker, I am grateful that the stylus doesn't have one of those useless eraser buttons. Oh, I should mention that XP Pen as offers felt nibs. I HIGHLY recommend that EVERYONE should use them, they'll extend the life of your screen a hundred times over. I used them for years with my Wacom tablet. Hmm... That's about all that I can really think of. I totally agree that the tablet should have come with thw type-c cable, along with a wall outlet power brick... But! Other than that and the tablet's obvious size I can't really find any downsides for this little tablet, especially for the price.

      Little late, Just wanted to say xp pen is great when compared to wacom. Just realized that xp pens stylus sensitive is a little worster compared to wacoms, but to me xp pen is actually close to actually beating wacom like holy the weight of the pen and the weight of the tablet is so much better, xp pen just needs to fix there stylus sensitivity and boom!

    I remember when they stopped making the Artist 10 in 2018 in favor of the Artist 12. The demand for cheaper tablets will always exist, so we see a triumphant return (though I'd just save for a galaxy tab s6 lite from 2019. You can find them open box for under 250)

    • @soupslicer136
      @soupslicer136 Рік тому +2

      yea! but I guess if you already have a nice and portable PC the artist 10 is a cheap way to get a nice enough portable drawing screen with the versatility of Windows, i'd look for an Android tablet or an ipad only after I had that drawing screen or if I didn't need to draw on a windows at all, but of course that priority changes with the creative process of each artist, but I've been admiring the tab S6 from afar for a while now, actually I'm pretty interested in some kind of galaxy book 360 since it's as portable as a 2 in 1 can be with all the functionalities I need for drawing and cheaper than the surface book dream lol

    • @EyekooDrawsStuff

      The other thing to point out with rather going for the Tab S6 lite in this scenario is that you can still use it with your computer as a pen display as well. So with some extra savings, you can have the best of both worlds with standalone portability and desktop drawing on a screen of roughtly the same size.

    Additional information, if you want to use USB Type-C, make sure that USB-C port on your PC/Laptop/Android is supporting visual/video delivery.
    Usually on PC and Laptop, there's an icon next to the port that tells what variant and features the port have.
    For video delivery, make sure that there's a DisplayPort logo next to the icon or just a Thunderbolt symbol next to the port.

    I was gifted a 24" drawing Xp-Pen screen and I love it, but it is large and can not be on my dask all the time, and to set it up is not easy and it need like 3 wires, HDMI, USB-C and power, so a small dwvice had been great for me, so that is something I will look into now. I am rather new to this, I been using a Samsung Tab 3 before but after a horrible accident involving coffee I been penless.

    So, I have recieved 3 defective 16 inch models from XP-Pen over the last year. The customer service could barely communicate the issues and also couldnt speak very good english (Not the main issue) But, when i first ordered the innovator 16 last year, I thought it was great! But then after a while, the screen defects came about. Flashing, strobe-light like flickering, and cable port issues. I recieved, after hassle, another replacement, which was also defective. I then asked for a different model, which, was also defective in a slightly different way.
    XP pen has slowly lost my trust sadly. The customer support and long-term quality is terrible in my experience.

      I think you can start with just some sketching pencils and a sketchbook and learn that way first. Figure out if you even like it before investing in a tablet. But also! A sketchpad and pencil is more portable (don't need to be connected to anything). So you can literally take it anywhere and start sketching random things you see. That's how I learned to draw! I have an iPad now and love using procreate because it's just as portable as a sketchpad and pencil. That is all I use and I really love it. When I first started drawing in middle school and high school I never even knew digital mediums were an option lol. But I am glad I learned the way I did, because those skills you learn with physical mediums can be translated to the digital realm too. It just takes a little bit to get use to, because with digital work you cannot physically feel the texture or thickness etc of what you are working with. SO with brushes, It took me a little while to learn which brush would give me my desired effect but once you get into a routine you get use to it!

    • @selfconscience
      @selfconscience Рік тому +8

      Start out with actual pencil and paper. Even if you go pro it's still the best drawing experience you'll have. All these creative displays are literally trying to mimic the real pen and paper experience as much as they can. They might not admit it, but most artists' primary reason for going digital is only because of the undo button no cap

    • @DestroyerV
      @DestroyerV Рік тому +1

      I agree with the comments above, if you are just starting to draw, try sketching with pencils. Then when you acquire basic drawing skills and maybe learn some fundamentals, you could try give a digital drawing a shot (This would be the safe way).
      Regarding the screen size, I would suggest getting at least 12 inches pen display for a beginner. Yes, you could draw with this 10 inch display, but the size might become a problem in the future, in case you decide to learn further, the small screen could be really uncomfortable in the drawing programs.

    • @SODAxAL
      @SODAxAL Рік тому +1

      Start with basic pencil and paper. Once you know how to draw then maybe you can move to digital.
      Otherwise, you need to learn to draw and learn how to use drawing software simultaneously, which will make your learning a bit challenging.
      From my experience, when i started drawing on iPad, my drawing was bad. It took me months to get use to it. Or maybe it just me, im not a fast learner.

      The Artist 10 2nd can connect to androids. They do have a list on XpPen of compatible phones.
      If you get one plese be advised:
      I find it can be finicky but take the red usb and plug it into an wall adapter. Then plug in the little L shape usb-c. If connecting to a phone and u bought the extra usb-c plug that into the tablet then into the phone. (Please note: you MUST buy their usb-c specifically, regular usb-c from just anywhere, will not work).
      Just remember the tablet needs a power source to be able to turn on, the black usb is NOT a power source when plugging into a computer, the red usb is meant to be plugged into a power source (an adapter). Does not have to be a fancy expensive one, just one that is strong enough to power the tablet itself

      I really like my huion hs611. Good middle of the road size and plenty of programmable shortcut buttons. I like the wheel thing too for zooming in and out and rotating my canvas. $60-80 depending on the sale

      @ajtatosmano2 Рік тому

      Hard to say. Huion is the best cheap option right now, because xp-pen makes wobbly lines. You can choose the 13 inch version for really cheap, but if you are a traditional artist who wants to go digital, I would recommend the 16 inch one. 13 inch is managable, pretty good, but the 16 inch is the sweet spot between size and price.

      @@InTwilight Only their newer stuff has the wobble that Brad mentioned in this video as well. You can decide for yourself. I only like to use a very light stabilizer, but if you are fine with a little stronger, then it's okay. Or if you do vector art mainly it's perfectly fine. Also, their customer support is said to be a little better than Huion's.

      For screenless, most people started with small ones (6.0 x 3.7 inch) like the Intuos Small or Huion HS64 but imo I highly recommend paying a bit more for a medium size (usually 10 x 6.25 inch) like the Huion HS610 or H610X (among many others, Huion makes a LOT under the "medium" size) since those cause less strain for your wrist + is much more ergonomic, plus it's much more natural as its the closest size to an A4 paper.

As i've seen their description on thier official website that it only supports Thunderbolt usb-c port (lightning symbol next to or below the usb-C port ) can anyone please help me confirm??

      Beside Thunderbolt, there's a specific type of regular USB-C port that supports video delivery, the one that has DisplayPort logo next to the port or usb icon.
